  • "I'd like to start with the positive."

The property is maintained to a very high standard and it is one of the cleanest properties that we've stayed at during our long time using sykes. It has everything you'd need during a stay away and the milk, tea, coffee and biscuits were well appreciated on arrival after a long journey. We also found a few things to do in the area and shops are extremely close by making it an ideal location to stay at. Is it warm and cosey and the shower was lovely. Saying that, unfortunately we ended up leaving a day early from our holiday as the neighbours on both sides have very loud dogs that are outside almost all the time and are constantly barking (both at night and early hours of the morning) making sleep very difficult and uncomfortable for us. The bed sadly, is also rather uncomfy. It's also a shame that there's not really any privacy in the back garden as it isn't fenced off from 2 properties and you can't sit outside as the 3 loud dogs come over and continuously bark. If it wasn't for these few niggles, it could easily have been the perfect destination.

Thank you for visiting Mead House. I am very disappointed that your stay was not to your expectations. We would have appreciated being notified of the problems straight away so we could have tried to rectify these. Your feedback back is much appreciated, and the issues raised will be looked into. Thanks. Property Owner

Absolutely everything was provided to make our stay enjoyable. It was very clean .The added extras were games ,DVDS ,books tissues and complimentary tea ,coffee and biscuits, however we could not access the biscuits as the tin was cross threaded! There were menus and local information sheets available.A very good base for exploring the local area..

Thank you for visting Mead House and your comments are much appreciated, hope to see you again. We had a good laugh about the biscuit tin, its a pull off lid, if you visit us again we will leave 2 packets of the cookies. Thank you. Property Owner

It was comfortable and warm. There was plenty to see within about an hour's drive. Richmond and it's castle are well worth a visit with beautiful riverside walks. Barnard Castle and Raby Castle & deer park were enjoyable day out too as well as exploring Darlington itself. Would highly recommend.

  • "Absolutely lovely property."

Spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable beds and lots of added extras to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Owners were very helpful when we had a minor issue on the first day and popped straight over to sort it out. Proximity to the train station was a bonus, just a 10 minute walk away. We had days out in Durham and Newcastle by train and also went to the Maritime Museum in Hartlepool all of which we enjoyed immensely. Darlington is a nice little town with quite a few shops and places to eat and drink. If you want a nice meal Tre Amici in Darlington is absolutely fantastic, we went twice as the food was amazing. The only reason I didnt give 5 stars was no fault of the property or owners but one of the neighbouring properties had several small dogs that appeared to live in a shed which barked persistently, this was quite annoying at times. Other than that could not fault it.

Thanks much appreciate. Hope you visit us again. Property Owner

  • "We liked the property it was clean and tidy, but we would never return to this property due to the fact there was several dogs all around us barking early in the morning when we were in bed, if we were in some days we could hear it different times of the day and up until at least 11:30pm at night when we were in bed, so we could not relax in this property."

Thanks for feedback. So sorry about the dogs locally, after investigating they were having pups so sorry you couldn’t relax and enjoy your stay. What can I say but apologise. Property Owner

Excellent Wifi + Tv We loved the open plan Kitchen Diner & Living room, And every room within the house. Decorated to our taste too. Made up for a chilled week. The owners should be proud of themselves for such a lovely place as the Mead. There are Plenty of shops within walking distance & a short drive away too. Darlington is a great town for shopping. And a perfect Base to explore surrounding areas, Barnard castle is an area we loved, And well worth the 25mins drive. We have put the Mead at the top of our list alongside wilberfoss which we had stayed prior to the Mead, And will certainly book up again at some point, As there were a few more surrounding areas within an hrs drive away that we wanted to visit but did not get the time to do so. Highly recommend. !!!! "Tony & Paula"

Easy to find, near the centre of Darlington. Plenty of shops around to stock up with. Lovely lounge area with a huge TV and a very fully equipped kitchen. The bedrooms are both good sizes with plenty of storage. Only recommendation would be to get proper curtains as the paper blinds built into the windows are next to useless during the early summer mornings. Also, for personal preference the beds were way too soft, but that is our preference and not something to mark the property down on. The owners were great with information before our stay and returned our deposit very quickly at the end. Would recommend and will use again if ever in the area.

The house was spotless on our arrival with fresh Tea, Coffee, milk & biscuits provided by the owners, nice thought. We found the fixtures & fittings all to be of good quality with the furniture and bedding all very comfortable with the extra large double giving a good nights sleep. The open plan layout was surprisingly cosy and relaxing with the benefit of the washing machine being downstairs we were able to eat or watch TV without the noise disturbing us. As a base for exploring the local area we were able to visit Middlsborough, Durham, Whitby, Gateshead & the wonderful Beamish Museum as all are within an easy drive. As a side note if you are planning a visit to Beamish do so at the weekend as they are usually "themed", with our visit was based on past transport. Overall highly recommended if you are able to manage the layout of the house over 3 floors.
