  • "Mouse Hall is a charming cottage set on different levels which adds to the history of once being a butchers shop."

It is a great base to visit all surrounding areas and places of interest. However disappointingly the cottage was not has clean has we would have liked, but after an nine hour journey we just needed to get settled in, so set to sort out so me of the issues ourselves. The floor near kitchen bin was dirty, with spills etc. The cooker top, and grill had to be cleaned before use, these were left dirty with food spills and grease. There was food left in the freezer and all the drawers were dirty with crumbs etc. again we washed out to store our own food. The Fridge itself needed cleaning before use, with four eggs left in. There was far too much dust around, it was evedent that it had obviously accumulated over several weeks not just one. A serious issues was the light switch in bathroom was left with no cover, "this can be dangerous especially where there is steam and water", the extractor fan in bathroom was in a terrible state with months of dirt and dust. The loo roll holder was hanging on until the second night when it fell onto floor during the night. The outside dustbins were already filled when we arrived so we struggled to dispose of our own rubbish. We fully understand that during the winter months bookings may not be weekly but housekeeping checks should be done before all guests arrive.

  • "An interesting and characterful cottage in a lovely area of Yorkshire."

Upstairs living room very comfortable. Use wifi code for Origin unit, not router. Bedrooms and shower room are off a dark corridor, via two sets of stone steps. Bunk bedroom very dark and would benefit from brighter ceiling light. Info about local restaurants would be useful and update re local shop, as (unless I missed it!) there isn’t one in 1.5 miles. Nearest grocery shops are either at Thornton Dale, 4+ miles away with tricky parking, or 6+ miles away at East Ayton in Spar/garage. After reading previous reviews, I parked on road in front of cottage.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at 11 Main Street and were impressed with the text from Rebecca upon arrival offering any help should we need it."

Our only problem was that we had specifically booked this property as it stated that it had off road parking- this was not the case. the very small allotted space for parking was inaccessible due to a number of reasons - a large lump of what looked like broken fence post poking out of the ground and very large NO PARKING notices on the back wall of the property that backed on to the space and a large metal box partially blocking - if we had managed to get the car in the space we would not have been able to open the doors - this along with the neighbour who came out to tell us we couldn't park there was the only thing that was slightly off. We loved the cottage and enjoyed our stay

  • "The cottage was lovely, querky and well equipped."

Very pretty village, quiet. Comfortable mattresses, bunk very squeaky though. There is ongoing animosity with neighbours however about the right to the parking space, we spoke to lady in bungalow apparently it is a pedestrian right of way only and she owns the whole area. We parked on road after reading the reviews, why spoil your holiday with unpleasantness or upsetting local residents, it is a safe road and plenty of space close to cottage. It is called Mouse Hall no No 11 on property!! Also there is no patio area, only a dank gloomy passage way. No area enclosed for dog. Sykes please review your description it is misleading. However we would heartily recommend the cottage itself. Good food pub 5 mins walk.

  • "An amazing cottage with everything you need."

Beds very comfy. Plenty of extra bedding and towels. Good wifi connection.Great pub round the corner for wonderful food. Will definatly stay here again. The only thing i did not like was the neighbours at number 9. As soon as we pulled up we were approached by them demanding we move our car as it was blocking their drive. It was not anywhere near their drive clearly. Once i had clarified with Rebecca the manager she confirmed there was a parking space at the back of the cottage for us to use. This time the neighbour at the back come storming out again telling us to move. This is not what you expect from the older generation. Down right rude. Its as though they watch for you returning from your day out. Brook house farm nrighbours opposite very friendly and always stopped to chat and wave.

  • "Confronted by neighbour when we parked our car in the area at the rear as we we advised to do in the information package."

We were asked for our name & address and told we were trespasing. In the end we agreed to park on the road, not a good start. Told there was a drying area outside the dining area door. The area was a narrow , constantly damp area and none to clean. The oven was so low on power even set at 9 it would take 4 hours to roast a dinner. We booked the property because it had 2 bedrooms as we sleep seperate due to snoring. The second bedroom had bunkbeds which is okay but the mattress was of poor quality , certainly not comfortable

  • "The holiday is listed as having parking."

This is not correct. We were stopped from parking our car by a neighbour who told us we had no right to park there. She owned the land and this was an ongoing dispute. The bed was quite uncomfortable however the bedding and rooms were clean,

  • "The property is advertised with off street parking and a patio."

We were advised in no uncertain terms by the owner of the access driveway that tenants had no right of way to the patio which doubled as the parking space. We had to park the car on the road and the car was unfortunately reversed into by a neighbour when we were in the house and will now be off the road for repair. A carpenter called at the house around 9 p.m. to measure for a new front door, without prior warning. We were not able to use the key safe to leave the key at the end of our stay. We texted the cleaner before leaving to advise we had left the key in the property. The cleaner, some three hours after we had departed said that she did not have a spare key which was quite distressing.

    1) Booked cottage due to advertised off street parking only to be served with letter from adjacent landowner stating we had no right of way to the alleged parking space 2) Whilst cottage overall very clean, aspect of cleanliness negated by an open box of compost next to the dining table 3) Bottom shower frame not sealed to floor hence bathroom flooded when taking shower
