Warm and comfortable. Well equipped kitchen, super shower. Only a few suggestions for improvement: could do with some coat pegs, rooms were a bit crowded, bed in main bedroom a bit firm for us.

  • "Described as having off street parking but didn't mention when booking that a neighbour owned the driveway and blocked access for the whole stay."

He also found it amusing to wander around the back of the property almost every time we left the door open on sunny days

Thank you for your comment. Our neighbour does own the driveway but we do have a right of way to park at the back. Sometimes if our guests park in the street where our neighbours usually parks he may park in the drive but this isn’t a regular occurrence and he will gladly move the car if asked. It is an end of terrace 17th Century cottage so if our neighbour uses his back entrance he has to walk down the drive to his gate beyond our garden but it isn’t near the back of our house. It was very comfortable and homely, we didn't use the open fire but it would be lovely on a cold winters day. The kitchen is modern and has everything you would need for your stay. Ebberston has no shop, but Pickering is only a short drive away. As noted in the description the stairs to the bedrooms are steep so care is needed, and the parking space is tight, but we managed OK. The cottage is in a great position for North York moors and east coast etc. We were left a lovely welcome pack by sue, the owner, who was very welcoming and friendly. Well appointed with some lovely touches including a welcome bottle of wine and home made buns! A great pub nearby serving good food and excellent ales. Would highly recommend. The only disadvantages are the village has no shop and the stairs in the cottage are quite steep if you have mobility problems. It is near many attractions including North Yorkshire Moors and coastal resorts Scarborough, Whitby & Filey. A car is essential although there is a bus service to Scarborough and Pickering ( Start of the fabulous North Yorkshire Moors Railway ). Nearest shops are in Thornton-le-Dale which is about 4 miles away which is another attractive village with plenty of facilities. If you are looking for a really fabulous country retreat then this is definitely for you!

  • "This is a charming cottage and was greeted with a nice bottle of wine and some sweet goodies."

We do feel that a little updating and brightening up is needed. Some of the decor is dark giving the cottage a very dark feel, maybe some local Yorkshire pictures could replace some of the very dreary ones around the cottage to help cheer it up. One of the living rooms windows leaked very badly during a downpour, resulting in quite a puddle on the floor so this needs seeing to. The beds are firm perhaps to firm for some and seating in the living room could be better, just a small 2 seat sofa and some old armchairs that have seen better days. Also there was no DVD as listed. The parking is tight but that was expected and was fine for us but didn’t realise it was a shared access, which felt a little bit invasive when trying to relax on a sunny day in the back garden. All in all not a bad little cottage but could be made better with a little thought.

Thank you for taking the time to review of our cottage. Due to the cottage dating back to the 17th century we have put some thought into the colours we put on the walls All the feature walls are subtle heritage colours which we feel enhance the beams and panelling and the rest of the walls in the rooms are light if not white. The maximum size sofa we can get into the cottage is a 2 seater due to the door sizes and we have 2 comfy wing-backed armchairs too. We buy good quality mattresses and both are relatively new, obviously everyone can have different needs but in general guests say they are very comfortable. We had some exceptional downpours the week you stayed and we are sorting the window problem but with the property grade 2 listed this takes time. The cottage is an end terrace so there is shared access but the neighbour doesnt come onto our land or property. Most guests enjoy a typical English country cottage with character and a cosy open fire but we do realise it isn’t for everyone. We hope guests would contact us direct if they have any issues as we are always on hand to help and we enjoy welcoming visitors, a lot who return multiple times. Property Owner

  • "What a fantastic cottage."

The welcome pack we found on our arrival was really lovely. The cottage itself was impeccably clean and had everything you could need. Super cosy yet spacious and the beds were incredibly comfortable. When we stay in North Yorkshire we usually stay higher up on the Moors but we would definitely stay lower down again just to stay at Chapel Cottage. A couple of coat hooks on the back of one of the kitchen doors would be useful and I think it would be a good idea to state in the cottage description that it's a starter pack of fuel only for the fire that is included but really that's just nit picking. We had a fantastic stay and will definitely return.

It's a wonderful cosy cottage, nicely decorated with comfy seating, great shower & pleasant aspect in a lovely, sleepy village of stone cottages. We loved the cakes/welcome pack when we arrived, which was a surprise and a lovely touch. The cottage was immaculately clean (and I'm very particular!) Parking was on the road but it was very easy (the driveway is quite narrow). There is a very nice pub within walking distance serving food using local suppliers (Sunday lunch was great). The cottage is ideally situated for the coast and the Moors and there are so many places of interest within easy reach. It was great to spend the day out and about and then spend the evenings sitting comfortably in front of the fire.
