  • “Lovely little cottage in fabulous location.”

Very comfortable and well presented. Very dog friendly. Only slight minus for us was the very soft bed.

Resting in the charming village of Egton Bridge near the banks of the River Esk is this charming, three-storey cottage, St Heddas Cottage.

This three bedroom dwelling is a wonderful base for a family of five to enjoy a rural retreat to the North York Moors National Park.

Be welcomed into the sitting room resting on the ground floor following a fun-filled day, resting on the collection of plush seating while the woodburning stove crackles and the TV entertains.

Head into the kitchen to rustle up a tasty meal for the group, with a good selection of appliances to assist you, before gathering everyone around the dining table to tuck in and toast to a wonderful stay.

Climb the spiral stairs to the first floor to discover the first bedroom, a double with plenty of storage, served by the spacious bathroom also on this floor.

Venture further the spiral stairs to find the two remaining bedrooms, comprising a twin and a single, perfect for children.

The rear patio garden makes a lovely spot for your dogs to stretch their legs, and for fresh morning coffees to be sipped in the summer breeze.

Next door to the cottage is a local pub with an excellent reputation, Postgate Inn, so you won't have to go far for a refreshing and well-deserved tipple following a day of rambling, while the nearby village of Grosmont is home to the nearest shop for any essentials and ingredients.

The tranquil River Esk runs through the village and provides wonderful scenery for riverside walks and wildlife watching.

An off-shoot of the river heading south will bring you to the scenic beauty spots of Beck Hole Waterfall and Mallyan Spout Waterfall, both well worth incorporating into a sunny stroll.

Head up to Scaling Reservoir for a peaceful afternoon of fishing, or get your bikes out for a relaxing ride through the quiet country lanes of this national park.

Pay a visit to the bustling town of Whitby for a host of attractions and amenities, with plenty of restaurants, bars and pubs lining the streets along with shops and independent businesses to browse.

You can take the train to get to Whitby which is in walking distance from the property.

Travel up the 199 Steps up to Whitby Abbey to admire the eerie ruins and take in the breath-taking coastal views, before heading back down to enjoy an afternoon on Whitby Beach, backed by brightly coloured beach huts and boasting soft golden sands.

Explore the coast further with walks along The Cleveland Way, exploring the likes of Robin Hood's Bay, Runswick Bay, and Staithes.

Make wonderful memories in the North York Moors at St. Heddas Cottage.

About the location

GROSMONT

Whitby 5 miles.

The pretty village of Grosmont sits at the junction of the River Esk and Murk Esk in the midst of striking North Yorkshire Moors scenery. The area is characterised by its narrow roads, steep hills and scenic views over valleys of patchwork fields and wide-open expanses of moorland. Grosmont itself lies in the ‘Heartbeat Country’ and is famous for being the home of the North York Moors Steam Railway. The Railway has been preserved and run by enthusiasts since 1973 and today carries upwards of 300,000 passengers a year. The village has a general store, post office, book shop, art gallery, cafes and a pub. It makes a great base for exploring the many pretty farming villages along the Esk Valley and the wider North York Moors National Park, as well as the North Yorkshire Coastline with characterful harbour towns and villages.
