“The bins were completely full when we arrived so we were unable to dispose of our rubbish, this resulted in our dog getting chicken bones from a bag of rubbish that we were unable to place safely in a bin.”

The birds were also attacking the bags and I ended up having to clean up leftover food from the slabbed area from a previous let, not ideal when not equipped to do so considering the current situation with covid. The cleaner must have only been in the property for 1.5 hours prior to us entering as we arrived early at 1.30 and we were allowed access from the contractor fixing the oven to use the toilet. The contractor advised that the cleaner hadn't yet been in and this was obvious, however when we did enter at 3pm the beds were ready and a surface clean had been done, however there was heavy dust and stour under the beds and sofas and cobwebs from the beams. The extractor hood was full of dust and cobwebs and the switches to the fan and light were thick with sticky grease, absolutely disgusting. I had to clean the fridge before putting anything in it and the fridge and freezer were full of ice which started to defrost during our stay and covered the food in the fridge in water. This continued throughout the stay. I suggest a full defrost there's been plenty of time to have done a full proper clean during lockdown. The bedding supplied for our second week was insufficient, one double bed had no quilt cover so had to use the same one for 2 weeks. We also had insufficient towels. There was no iron as indicated in the particulars of the description and despite having requested this from sykes and also the owner when he appeared one day this was not forthcoming. The bathroom door was hanging off its hinges so when in use it bashed off the tiles and the floor. It was incredibly difficult to open and close and horrendously noisy and woke up the whole house if using the wc during the night. This was eventually fixed during our second week. The double bed in the backroom has the oldest mattress. The springs pinged each time you moved and it was so soft and sagging in the middle. I would suggest that considering what is being charged the investment of new mattress is required if expecting people to pay so much. We were bitterly disappointed in the property for the money and would not be back to this particular place until improvements were made to the standard of cleaning and facilities.

Thank you for your feedback following your stay. We are sorry about the refuse situation however we are reliant on the local authority for removal of refuse although we understand the housekeeper did return to place the bins out for collection but was unable to do so as your car was blocking the access. We do request that guests do not arrive before the official arrival time, particularly in the current climate when additional housekeeping tasks are required. This does place the housekeepers under additional pressure. The housekeeper advised she returned with additional towels and bed linen and had there been any request for additional cleaning tasks she would have been more than happy to address these whilst at the property. You will recall your welcome letter did advise that if you were dissatisfied with anything at all to please let us know at the time so that we are able to address any issues. - Sykes owner relations
