  • "Dove cottage is so delightful, we loved our stay there."

It's perfectly situated being only a few miles outside Whitby. It was outstandingly clean on our arrival and extremely comfortable with everything you could need to have a perfect holiday. This was our second time staying at Dove cottage and we will definitely book again. The owners are brilliant, nothing is too much trouble, they're really friendly. I can honestly say its a real home from home - we just love it. I would recommend this charming cottage to anyone.

The cottage itself is cosy & comfortable with everything that’s needed for a great relaxing break. There was a very welcome pint of milk in the fridge when we arrived & the owner was really helpful about the local area and great communication.

  • "A lovely property, clean and comfortable."

There are a few quirky little things, like the hot water tap on the bathroom works backwards! As a previous review suggested a proper shower would be nice. Overall though a well situated and comfortable property and the village shops all within short walking distance.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Dove Cottage."

The accommodation itself was clean and had lots of facilities. I have marked it down one star as it would benefit from a walk-in shower especially as the bathroom is so big, but otherwise its perfect! It was in a good location for us to get to Whitby and all the other local areas (inland and beaches). Great places surrounding the cottage to walk our dog too. There’s a local butchers, bakers and Spar (that stocks nearly everything so we bought local all week). The local pub (The Plough) was fantastic - good food, friendly people and happy to welcome four-legged friends too. Quiz night on a Tuesday is good fun!! A great holiday for us

  • "We had a lovely stay in Dove cottage - it was a perfect home from home for a short break; there was plenty of space and facilities were great."

The village has a butchers, bakery, pub, fish and chip shop and a small SPAR shop so it has everything you need. If planning to take small children, the living room leads straight onto the staircase so can be noisy upstairs when the TV is on and if your little one is used to a dark bedroom you may also want to take an additional black out blind as the curtains let in a lot of light.

  • "We were very disappointed with the cottage which bore little resemblance to the photos and description given on your website ."

Instead of a bright and airy cottage we found it very dark and furnished to a poor standard using what appeared to be items purchased from a bereavement sale, nothing matched, it was just an assortment of unwanted well used pieces. None of the crockery or cutlery in the kitchen matched. Even the matching three easy chairs shown in the photo had been replaced by odd chairs showing significant signs of wear. We have used holiday cottages for many years and have travelled extensively around the country and have never come across a cottage as badly fitted out as Dove cottage. It is also the most expensive we have ever stayed in.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback, I was really surprised you had some issues with Dove Cottage as we usually receive wonderful feedback. We feel the pictures are a good representation of the property, we have purchased a new sofa and easy chair last year and they have very little signs of wear, everything in the cottage has been purchased new, and the cottage is decorated regularly. • "A lovely cottage and we really enjoyed our week."

Very nicely positioned too with a good, dog-friendly, pub/restaurant just up the road, an eat-in or takeaway chip shop even closer and a shop, butchers and bakers just down the road too. Whitby is just 4 miles away and we found a lovely scenic, cross-country walk there which took us around 90 minutes. We then got the train back from Whitby to Sleights which only takes 9 minutes. (For some reason a return ticket costs just £2.40 whereas one-way is £3!). All in all a lovely break in a lovely cottage.

  • "The cottage was absolutely beautiful and so clean."

I wanted to give top marks for everything except for the fact the double bed was so uncomfortable, the mattress was lumpy and the bed was creaky, everytime I turned or my husband turned I would wake up. The single bed nearest the door was lovely and comfortable. Had everything we needed except a clothes airer and pegs for the washing line. The advert said WiFi but there is no WiFi, which means the smart TV can't be used to its full potential.

Thank you for saying the cottage was absolutely beautiful and so clean. However, I am very surprised by your comments regarding the bed as we use the cottage ourselves during the winter months and find it very comfortable. Needless to say, we have not had a complaint from any other customer. Pegs for the washing line are kept under the sink. WiFi is not advertised as being available, if you check the website I think you will see there is no mention of WiFi, although this is a possibility for next year. Property Owner
