  • "We enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage."

It was warm and comfortable and very spacious. Everything you could need was provided. The garden is enclosed and safe for our little dog. Set in a quiet spot within easy walking distance to an excellent fish and chip shop with eat in facilities and the local very friendly pub, The Plough which served a variety of excellent meals. We visited Whitby Bay, Robin Hood’s Bay and Filey all in easy distance. Woodlands View is perfectly located for a quiet stay with interesting places to visit. We would recommend this property and if we go back to this area would book it again.

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay although the property is beginning to look tired in places."

A suggestion maybe to renew soft furnishings, bedding, towels curtains etc. The views from the balconies were stunning and the garden was ideal for our dog, although we did find the drop of the steps from the lounge french doors to the garden quite steep. A few issues: the floor lamp in the lounge and the bedside lamp in the bedroom with the balcony only worked intermittently not sure why, plus the spotlights in the lounge only 3 out of the 6 worked. Also both sets of french doors were difficult to lock/unlock at times. Having said all this we would definitely stay again it’s a perfect location for visiting local attractions.

Clean and spacious with stunning views to be enjoyed on the balcony or veranda. The garden is secure for the dog and is a nice size. Plenty of seating in the lounge and large dining table. Bedroom space was ample. Comfortable and pleasant, we would definitely stay here again. The Plough pub is round the corner serving tasty food and a decent pint. Only 4 miles to whitby so ideal location.

  • "Have enjoyed the week at Woodlands View."

Fabulous area. Loved Whitby and not being able to park in Robin Hoods Bay one day led us to find Boggle Hole just a bit further down the coast which is about 2 miles down a very narrow lane but was a fabulous place. Woodlands View is a very nice little property, needs a bit of a makeover in some places but overall is fine. If we come again, which we would be very happy to do, a longer cord pull on the bathroom light would be nice as I couldn't reach it so god knows how children cope, and a supply of bin bags would have been nice. But overall we have had a fabulous week.

  • "This was a great cottage in a great location."

We were never more than 1/2 an hour from where we wanted to be. It was very clean and tidy, had everything we needed and lots of space for 4 adults and 1 small dog. I would recommend this location and we may well be back later this year or next.

The surrounding area is very beautiful, a haven of peace and quiet. It has the advantage of being close to all the facilities of Whitby, and to the lovely coastal paths and villages. The local fish and chip shop is excellent. We would definitely stay there again.

  • "This cottage is not particularly photogenic !"

It is rather more spacious and comfortable than it appears in the photos. Very quiet position tucked away off the road and within walking distance of an excellent inexpensive pub - The Plough. Decent bedrooms though they could do with a little more shelf space. Lacks a second toilet but powerful modern shower over the bath Whitby and Robin Hood Bay are delightful and the Cleveland Way walk along the cliff tops between them is spectacular Next time we will stay longer ! I appreciated the note when we arrived informing me of such, I'm sorry I forgot to write in the guest book. It is now a perfect base for us, thank you. Less thanks go to the previous guests who left over 15 piles of dog dirt for us to clear from the garden before our dog could use it. Inconsiderate and selfish behavior.

  • "Great accommodation and felt like home, in a good quiet location for touring the area."

Having read some previous recent reviews about cleaning etc, we met no such problems so must have been sorted. House was very clean and no issues with the boiler. Enjoyed our stay and would return. Only thing that could be better would be the main bedroom mattress which needs desperately needs replacing. Wifi in house worked well and enough to stream off Netflix. Garden was nice and well looked after.

  • "As regular visitors to Woodlands View it was nice to return."

The convenience of the location, private parking, enclosed garden and fantastic views are what draws us back. The day of arrival we were contacted by the owner regarding a problem with the boiler. Not a great start to the holiday but we appreciate these things happen and it was dealt with promptly. We were just a little disappointed when we returned home to read other reviews containing boiler issues suggesting it's a recurring problem. We were pleased at how clean the property looked when we arrived. It must have improved since the previous reviews this year. It is a shame about the building work next door. The builders are very friendly, but it doesn't make sitting on the balcony or in the garden very appealing. We would appreciate blinds or curtains to be put up in the bathroom. We've comforted ourselves previously that due to the angle of the windows privacy is ok. But now you can hear builders up on the scaffolding in very close proximity, I think they really are needed! Sykes now ask you to strip the beds including mattress protector as part of the Covid-19 precautions. The mattress in the main bedroom really needs replacing. All other bedding looked very clean. It appears you no longer get any essentials or niceties, presumably due to Covid-19. No kitchen roll or milk, just one toilet roll. At least tea/coffee and milk on arrival would be nice.

  • "Been to this place before in 2019 so we booked it again, it's got all you need for a holiday."

Relaxing location and lovely views out the back. Some child hazards in the house to be aware of (sharp carpet grippers on stairs poking through) which I told Sykes of in 2019 but no action as they were the same this year when we got there - I mentioned to the owner this year, I hope he sorts out. Fridge has a leak and I had to defrost it on arrival. It was in the same state when I left so needs fixing or replacing. It's a bit dirty in some places such as skirting, cupboard handles etc. The sofa had loads of sand under the cushions and the floors had not been cleaned very well so we had to do some cleaning when we arrived at the place- the vacuum is not very good so take one with you. Considering more cleaning is needed for Covid this is not acceptable. The "professional" cleaning company is a woman and her 2 young kids so not surprised. The bedding and towels were clean and pressed, bathroom ok, everything works so there are lots of positives about this place. - It's very comfortable house and I would book it again. Just don't expect it to be very clean.

  • "Enjoyed a fantastic weeks break in this property on the last week in July."

The house is really large although i was surprised there was only 1 toilet. Not a problem though as there were only 3 of us. Check out the wardrobe in the master bedroom, it is the strangest wardrobe i have ever seen! The garden was the perfect size for my dog and 7 year old, they had plenty of fun running around. The balcony is lovely too. The location is also great, set in a nice quiet area with a local shop, chippy and a pub which is dog friendly and serves fab food. Only 5 minutes or so to Whitby so ideal.

  • "Wasn't impressed with the cleanliness of the cottage, particularly in view of the fact that we were the first to visit after lockdown and a deep clean should have been done before our arrival."

TV screen filthy, dust on windowsills & dirty front windows. Boiler was dripping - the owner 'phoned me at midday on 10 July to say it was being repaired that night, but it obviously hadn't been fully mended. We had decided to travel to the cottage on the following day as we didn't want to spend our first evening in the company of a repair man. This maintenance work really should have been done before we were due to arrive, not on the first night of our holiday. As I recall the boiler was leaking when we stayed in March 2019. Extensive, long-term building work being done to the house next door - this didn't detract from our stay, but might irritate other guests. Would stay in the cottage again as we like the location, the layout of the property and the enclosed garden for our dog, but do hope the maintenance/cleaning aspects can be sorted - and a sweeping brush provided!

  • "Firstly I would like to point out that the location and secure rear garden was ideal for our family."

There were a few concerns, some I raised with the owner when he visited towards the end of our stay. External decking requires some wood replacing and securing. No garden furniture or BBQ unless this was in some of the outbuildings which were secured. Cutlery broken, needs updating. Nail sticking out of stair bannister spindle which was not secure. Toilet seat loose Waste bins had not been emptied prior to our stay, this could have been the reason there were lots of flies in the house (resolved by relocating the bin and purchasing fly spray.) weekend construction work being undertaken on the adjacent property,

  • "Very comfortable accommodation tucked away on a quiet street."

Ample private parking and enclosed rear garden is a real plus. Lovely views from the back. The balcony and decked area will be great in summer. Very cosy warm living room with comfortable seating. The Christmas tree was a nice touch. Good powerful shower in bathroom. The kitchen would benefit from a pair of oven gloves. Dishwasher tablets, toilet rolls and kitchen roll were supplied. We also received a lovely welcome pack with wine, milk, coffee and biscuits. A couple of minor niggles (ill fitting toilet seat, cables not boxed off in hall way) but didn't affect our stay. Regarding accuracy of the listing, I would just question the ground floor 'twin room'. There was one standard single bed in the room with an additional camp bed leaned against the wall. No problem for us, but worth noting if you are intending to use it as a twin. Overall, a cosy, clean and very comfortable property in a quiet and convenient location. As regular visitors to the area we would happily return to Woodlands View.
