A family of 6 adults absolutely loved the cosy well designed rooms with lots of extra touches that made it extra special. The owners live next door and are very welcoming but leave you to your own devices. Special mention to the ‘kids’ hunting game that has us consumed for the whole weekend! One of the best places we have rented! Thanks Vicky and Darren.

Thank you such much for the lovely feedback, we are so glad you had a great weekend. Really pleased that you managed to crack our little treasure hunt, it did make me smile how enthusiastic you all were. The cottage was spotlessly clean, and had everything you needed. Lovely welcome basket and even our dog was thought of. The owners are next door and happy to help and advise about the area, but not intrusive at all, and the cottage information folder was the best I had ever seen, with directions to get onto the Cleveland Way. Smart TV for streaming in our chill time. Good location for Whitby and Saltburn. Should also visit Staithes and Runswick Bay . Loved waking and seeing the goats out of the window too.

I was glad our party was four rather than six as only one bath/wc was a bit of an issue. Very convenient location. Lovely coastal/walking break.

Thankyou so much for the feedback, we are really glad you enjoyed your stay. We do make it clear in the advert that is only one bathroom (with a roll top bath and large separate shower cubicle) this is because we want to keep the originality of our 150 year old farmhouse. • "A beautifully appointed, comfortable cottage."

The owners have pretty much thought of everything, including a much appreciated Dolce Gusto coffee machine (our girls love a choccochino!). If we could make any suggestions at all for improvement (and we're being really picky!) it would be for a mixer tap on the bathroom sink and a serrated knife in the kitchen.

Hi, thanks so much for the great feedback, it’s much appreciated. There should be a serrated knife in the drawers with the others, as we placed a selection in there, will check and if not, will replace. Glad you had a lovely stay! Property Owner

Couldn't do enough for us and our 2 boys. The cottage was absolutely lovely, perfect for our family of 4 with room to spare. The only thing I would love to see is the garden being completely enclosed round the front so that when the boys wander from back to front garden, I know they aren't able to escape, but I must reiterate that this is just a little nice to have and would still give Foulsyke 10/10.

Thankyou for taking the time to leave feedback, we really do appreciate it. The yard at the side of the house is fully enclosed as is the farm yard. The cottage was exceptionally clean. (It’s most probably the cleanest we have stayed in with Sykes). The cottage was extremely comfortable and well equipped. The welcome basket was a great touch and saves you rushing to the shops for milk and teabags. It was great that all the goodies were local to the area. We even had a little pot of fresh honey made by Darrin’s bees. Teddy our dog liked the touches that were especially for him the little treats; dog bowls, blanket and towel were well appreciated. Our 2 year old loved the chickens, goats, pigs and horses and being allowed to feed the animals as they roam around the farm yard. He also got to sit on the tractor and cuddle Bertie the goat. Our hosts were friendly and welcoming and had great local knowledge and directed us to the best beaches and rock pools. Nothing was too much trouble and we had an uneventful stay. The cottage was well situated and a short drive from most local amenities form the railways, beaches, amusements, rock pools, Puffins and not forgetting the Yorkshire moors. We have had a fantastic time here and will be back next year! Many thanks to Vicky, Darrin and Joseph our fantastic hosts it was great chatting to you all!

The property

Found between the bustling town of Loftus and Easington, a short drive away from the majestic landscape of the North Yorkshire National Park is Foulsyke Farm Cottage.

This charming, semi-detached property is the perfect base for families or a last minute break for a group of friends to spend some quality time together and explore all that this part of Yorkshire has to offer.

There are 22 acres to roam in with goats, pigs, chickens and horses, and lots of outdoor space for children to run around in.

Admire the character of the stone-built property before stepping through the stable door and into the kitchen/diner, where the charm of the property is still apparent.

Look forward to catering your own culinary delights within the spacious kitchen, where you can pack a picnic for tomorrow’s adventure or have a special treat bake in the electric oven.

Within the kitchen you will find a washing machine and a dishwasher, as well as a dining space to enjoy your home-cooked meals with all your loved ones around you.

Moving through the property will bring you to the sitting area, where a seating arrangement is positioned in front of a Smart TV and a woodburning stove, offering a relaxing space to unwind after an action-packed day.

Heading up the stairs, you will find three elegantly-appointed bedrooms, comprising of a king-size bedroom and two double bedroom, making an ideal set up for groups of couples, families or friends.Foulsyke Farm has its very own bus stop at the bottom of the lane, the Arriva X4 route can take you south to Whitby 14 miles away or North 18 miles to Middlesbrough.

If you can tear yourself away from this dwelling, head into to nearby town of Loftus, where a whole host of amenities awaits you, including convenience shops, pubs, restaurants and takeaways, catering to all needs.

For days out, venture to Saltburn-by-the-Sea to enjoy a traditional day by the seaside, where you can laze on the glorious sands or soak up the views of the sea during a ride on the Saltburn Cliff tramway.

Alternatively, head in the other direction and spend time in the charming seaside village of Staithes where you can walk Yorkshire's cliff top paths or enjoy the delights of rock pooling and fossil hunting on the village’s small beach.

A public footpath runs alongside the farm which leads to The Cleveland Way, less than a mile away.

Where the farm path joins the Cleveland Way is at the top of some of the highest cliffs on the east coast with spectacular views to the north towards Saltburn and the south towards Staithes.

However before you reach the cliffs you will walk past Street House Farm where archaeologists discovered a Neolithic long cairn dating from 3300BC.

The site contains the Saxon Princess bed burial, one of only a dozen known in the UK and certainly the most northernly, as the majority are on the south coast.

Spectacular artefacts were discovered buried with the princess including gold set scallop shaped jewels which are now on permanent display at nearby Kirkleatham Museum.

A scenic car journey along the coastline will take you to the resort town of Whitby which plays to a superb selection of amenities and attractions including the ruined Abbey which overlooks the coast and reached by the famous 199 steps and the Captain Cook Memorial Museum.
