“We arrived in Ferrensby in cold weather.”

The property is listed as having underfloor heating, unfortunately the owner told us on arrival that this was ‘hit and miss’ but asked us not to try to alter the heating controls as it wouldn’t make any difference. The underfloor heating in the bathroom only came on when the light was turned on. The property is listed as having underfloor heating, unfortunately the owner told us on arrival that this was ‘hit and miss’ but asked us not to try to alter the heating controls as it wouldn’t make any difference. The underfloor heating in the bathroom only came on when the light was turned on. He didn’t offer any other form of heating for the bedroom and although the gas heater was efficient for the sitting area, the hall, bedroom and bathroom remained unheated. We had particularly heavy frosts during our stay and without any background heat at all, the property was not comfortable. The owner did not come to ask whether we were comfortable or offer an alternative form of heating, ie convector radiator for the bedroom. In previous properties we have stayed in, the owner or manager has called on the second day of our stay to ask if everything was ok. This did not happen at the Ferrensby property. We left earlier than planned as we were having to get up early to light the gas fire to try to warm the property and decided we would be more comfortable at home. This was a shame as we had been looking forward to this winter break.

About the location

FERRENSBY

Knaresborough 3 miles; Harrogate 6 miles; York 18 miles.

Ferrensby is a small rural village three miles from Knaresborough. Situated so close to the old Great North Road, it is not surprising that the biggest attraction in the village is an old coaching inn, the General Tarleton. The inn has been there for some 250 years, but in recent times it has developed into a particularly well reputed restaurant as well as remaining a proper country inn. This quiet village, also has some attractive Georgian properties. Nearby, Knaresborough is an ancient market and spa town on the fringe of the Yorkshire Dales, overlooking the River Nidd, and is one of the prettiest towns in North Yorkshire. Visit Mother Shipton's Well, Knaresborough 14th century Castle, "Ye Oldest Chymist Shoppe in England" which dates back to 1720 and the House in the Rock. Enjoy wonderful walks by the river, cycling, climbing, fishing, boating or just take in the tranquil atmosphere and beautiful scenery. There are many interesting shops and galleries, and a market on Wednesdays. The historic cathedral cities of Ripon and York are close by, as are the Spa town of Harrogate, the great stately homes of Castle Howard and Harewood House, the Cistercian Abbeys of Fountains, Rievaulx and Jervaulx, and the castles of Middleham, Bolton and Richmond.
