  • "We absolutely loved our week at Bayside cottage."

It was rainy and wet for most of the week however that didn't stop us exploring Filey, Filey Brigg and Flamborough Head. The cottage was gorgeous, lovely and warm and a fantastic base to snuggle down in and listen to the rain and the seagulls :). We had everything we could need and the decor with the sea theme throughout is stunning. I was even lucky enough to be invited by the Filey open water sea swimmers to join them for an evening sea swim in the dark at Cobble landing. Thank you for a superb base for our holiday. Would highly recommend it.

The property was exactly as described and we couldn't have asked for a better base for the stay. Incredibly clean, well maintained and everything you could ask for in a holiday rental. The Bay is a great location and ideal for both the beach, Filey or exploring further afield. It's great that everywhere is so dog friendly too!! The owner was super responsive and we'd 100% recommend a stay at Bayside Cottage! Thanks for sharing your superb property with us...we'll definitely be back

Beds was clean and comfortable slept very well. Plenty of crockery and utensils and oven ware. There was a couple minor issues the front door key lock was sticking and awkward to open and lock. Also I would suggest a minor issue with the shower head needs replacing as it is a little rusty. But overall very nice . The site is very clean lovely walk to the beach and along the beach to Filey. Would definitely recommend The Bay.

The front door is almost impossible to open so we had to use the back doors. Bit of a pain having to walk over the wet grass all the time and having our shoes cluttering up the room , instead of having them in the hallway. Few things missing...oven gloves and toilet brush. The cleaning company use very perfumed washing powder, not good for me as I have a perfume intolerance and the smell gave me a runny nose all week. However, apart from these niggles, we enjoyed our stay.

  • "Lovely, clean cottage."

It had most of the things you need. There was no tumble dryer though and it is listed as having a washer\dryer. There was an airer but it was flimsy and not up to drying wet towels etc. The cottage was clean and the garden outside is great for the kids to play in. It would be nice if there was just a couple of tea bags and pint of milk for when you arrive rather than having to go out and get these straight away. Apart from that, it was a lovely stay, the beaches nearby in Filey and Bridlington were beautiful and we would definitely come back to this area again.

  • "This property was a great base for exploring the area and the site had facilities & a safe setting to make it ideal for our family holiday."

It has the potential to be a 4 star holiday. Unfortunately, the cleanliness and some general maintenance at the property are letting it down. As well as dusty skirting boards & cobwebs in corners, we also were disappointed to find a drinks can under one of the twin beds, a crisp packet under the main bed and crumbs in the cutlery drawer. The washing machine cupboard front was broken & also something under the fridge kept dropping off. Such a shame as like I said, the potential is there for this to be a quality property. Little touches like putting a larger bed into the main bedroom & upgrading the crockery would make a difference too. That said, overall we enjoyed our stay and would possibly visit The Bay again if in the area but perhaps would look for alternative properties

The house it self was ok, nice welcome pack but overall cleanliness wasn’t great, cobwebs and dirty floors and dog hairs, I appreciate it’s a dog friendly place but when you’ve got a young child Exploring the floors need to be spotless.. As a family we wouldn't choose to stay at the Bay again! The pool was overcrowded and busy and having a young child 1yr, was a very overwhelming experience for him. Children were climbing all over the amusement games and just left to their own devices so for this, this isn’t the environment for us. The site was very loud at night and the communal garden was a football pitch for anyone and everyone until 10pm some evenings.

Welcome pack was a really nice touch and really appreciated after a long journey. Everything was fully operational and clean in the cottage. The only slight gripe with this location would be the lack of parking at the cottage, the nearest parking area was constantly full so we had to park opposite and up the road. A bit inconvenient but no real hardship. The. Bay is a lovely complex with a bonus of the leasure facilities and pool. The local pub was welcoming with good food, I would highly recommend the Eggs Florentine from the breakfast menu. The evening dinner menu selection is a bit limited, but the quality is good. They also allow dogs which is a bonus. All in all a great place to have a break away, we have already booked to go again but sadly Bayside cottage was booked so we have selected a similar facility.

It is spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated throughout with lovely furnishings. The whole cottage is bright and sunny with a fresh nautical theme throughout and lovely clean carpeting. Pristine condition. We felt we had lots of space to move around and WC facilities on both floors was handy. It was definitely home from home and we wanted for nothing. There was a kitchen welcome pack and a tea/coffee and biscuits welcome pack which was very much appreciated. There was a hand sanitizer dispenser in the hall and soap dispensers in the bathrooms. The owner was pleasant and helpful to deal with on the telephone when I had a query prior to our stay. We didn't use the onsite leisure facilities such as the pool because we were using the cottage as a base from which to house hunt, rather than for a holiday. We are assured that the site facilities are excellent however. We managed to visit onsite pub and shop once which were perfect with friendly staff. A lovely experience from start to finish. 5 stars. • "This was our first stay at The Bay village and our first stay in Filey."

We had a wonderful holiday and would recommend it to anyone. When we arrived at the cottage we were really pleased. It was really clean, quiet and bigger than we had thought it would be. It had everything we needed to enjoy our holiday including an ironing board & iron, hairdryers and a really good shower! The only downsides of the cottage were that the double bed was really small and not very comfortable so we had a few sleepless nights which resulted one of us moving to the sofa. The blinds in the bedrooms were also thin so it was very light when you woke up in the morning. There was also some damp around the property on the walls. This didn't affect our holiday but something for the owners to be aware of. The outside space was good. We shared it with many other houses which was nice for the kids to have space to play and also to play with other children. The only downside is that if you have a dog, there is no enclosed space to let them out so you have to keep an eye on them, but that's not the end of the world. The village itself is lovely. Very clean and quiet with a cafe, shop and pub. The pub is ok but gets very busy and as you are unable to pre-book, there can be a bit of a wait for a table. There is also a leisure centre - we used the pool a couple of times. The cottage is only a short walk down to the beach (and when I say down I mean down). There is quite a steep slope down to the beach. If you turn right and walk down the beach, there is a lovely little beach cafe up on the hill that I highly recommend for a coffee and cake. I recommend this cottage. We would stay again or would look to stay in another cottage on the same sight.

  • "This was out 3rd visit to The Bay but our first time in Bayside."

I was travelling with my daughter and two grandchildren of 2 and a half and 6 months. When you enter Bayside there's a spacious hallway with a very useful shoe rack and space for 2 open buggies! There's a downstairs toilet with another shoe rack and lots of space for things like cool bags. Towels are provided but if there's 4 of you it might be an idea to take a hand towel for the downstairs toilet. On the right is the spacious lounge / dining area / kitchen with French doors out onto a patio with table and 4 chairs and then a huge grass area which is safe for playing on. From the hallway you go left up stairs to a good sized landing and the two bedrooms. There's a cupboard off the landing with loads of space for suitcases etc. My daughter had the double room with the travel cot that was provided. It was a bit of a squeeze getting that in but after moving the bed a bit it worked ok. There's a big walk-in wardrobe off this room which could do with a light - maybe one of those you press and they go off after a while? They run on batteries I think. I shared the twin room with my oldest granddaughter. The beds were ok. they're a good 3' width but would benefit from new mattresses. A word to the owner - remember it's not always children that sleep in these beds! My daughter said the double bed was comfy and she's quite fussy!! :) This holiday park is great, with lots of facilities and a lovely walk down to a beautiful beach with nothing on it except sand and sea.

! Everything was spotless, all pots/pans/cutlery looked brand new. The towels were white and fluffy, another nice surprise. We found absolutely everything we needed, (3 tvs, 2 hairdryers etc etc). The green space to the back of the cottage would be ideal for kids to play on. No complaints whatsoever from us, everything was top notch!!

It was a great base for exploring and the property was perfect. It was very clean, there were clear Covid 19 instructions and plenty of materials to maintain. • "We’ve stayed at the bay on lots of occasions so are used to a high standard, this was our first time at this property and unfortunately the house needs a thorough deep clean, particularly at the moment with the Covid situation."

The master bedroom floorboards creak (other holiday makers have mentioned previously in the guest book) and the carpets look like they’re ready for a good shampoo. The kitchen accessories and crockery needed washing prior to use, I understand that’s due to people not cleaning them properly but they should be double checked before the next guests arrive in my opinion. There aren’t any large frying pans and the tea towels were filthy so we bought one which we've taken home with us, there were no spare bin liners so we had to make do with carrier bags once the bin was full up. The front door is terrible to lock/unlock which needs attention (it has to be slammed to lock it) The property itself is lovely but the above does need bringing to the owners attention I feel so they can speak with their cleaners etc Would recommend the property once the niggles have been sorted out

Thank you for your feedback. The owner was disappointed with your comments regrading the cleaning especially as they allow additional time for the cleaners to ensure everything is perfect for your arrival. Comments regarding this are usually very positive but they will speak to the cleaning company involved to ensure they do not have any further feedback of a similar vein. If the owner had been aware of your complaint during your time they would have arranged a re clean for you, unfortunately as the comments have only come to light since your departure they could not rectify the issues. The owner was at the property a few days before your arrival and could not find anything wrong with the door but will keep an eye out for it ,and as the property is self catering there is only a starter bin bag provided. We finally got in at nearly 7pm after phone calls even to the owner. The cleaners were lovely, they knew we were stood outside waiting. Therefore I wouldn’t say a deep clean happened. We cleaned some areas ourselves. We would recommend changing your check in time to a later time. All our food in our car went off or melted, defrosted due to the heat and wait to get in. With regards to the Bay in general, it would have been good if Sykes had of told us in advance that there was major building taking place on site. Although this did not affect us directly, they are major building works and I feel we should have been informed before we booked. The pub on site needs to employ a manager - the service was pretty awful with folk waiting over 20 minutes for a drink. About the location

FILEY

Scarborough 7.7 miles; Bridlington 10.5 miles.

Filey is a traditional English seaside resort with a friendly atmosphere, offering a restful holiday, making an ideal place to stay for walkers and wildlife watchers at any time of the year. A real gem on the Yorkshire coast. A fishing town on the North East Coast, Filey has enjoyed a reputation of being a resort since Victorian times, set beside the magnificent Filey Bay, a long stretch of beautiful sand, with Filey Brigg and its shallow rockpools to the north. Filey Brigg is a low headland that protects Filey Bay and provides good bird watching and seawatching opportunities all year round. The 400 ft high Bempton Cliffs (RSPB Reserve) to the south of Filey Bay are home to over 250,000 seabirds in the summer. Gannets, kittiwakes, puffins, guillimots and razorbills all nest there. Gannets are regularly seen diving for fish in Filey Bay. The Brigg area is an ideal place to watch for common and rarer waders, seabirds and migrating warblers, finches and thrushes. As well as seabirds, seals and other marine life, such as porpoises dolphins and minke whales can be seen in the sea around the Brigg. The town itself seems almost caught in a time warp, retaining much of its character with individual shops, narrow paths and ginnels. There is a small coble landing, a slipway where local fishermen keep their boats, plus delightful beach chalets that can be hired through the summer months. The bay is edged with two promenades and there are various gardens, where brass bands play on a Sunday afternoon. This small town is family orientated, crazy golf and candy floss. Also in Filey there is the Filey Dams Nature Reserve, a wetland reserve where common and rare waders and wildfowl can be seen as well as autumn gatherings of swallows, sand martins and house martins. Also there is Parish Wood (just off Sycamore Avenue) an unexpected gem that offers a wealth of wildlife. Willow warbler, chiffchaff, blackcap and tree sparrows breed there and a wide variety of other species are regularly seen such as great spotted woodpeckers and sparrow hawks. Parish Wood also provides shelter and food for a wide range of migrant bird species such as goldcrests, pied and spotted flycatchers, warblers, finches, thrushes and woodcocks. A short drive brings you to the busier town of Scarborough where for family fun you can visit the Alpamare Waterpark, a waterpark unlike anything the UK has ever seen before, as well as plenty to explore and discover in this lovely area.
