  • "Lovely holiday cottage let with lots of household items available to make a very comfortable stay."

The house is very well furnished and clean, very homely. Even though it is dog friendly it has no smells etc from previous dog owner visitors. We didn't use our car all week as public transport is so easy to reach to also visit Scarborough and Bridlington. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide your feedback. We are pleased you enjoyed the house and your stay in Filey. Property Owner

  • "What a wonderful cottage."

So clean and tidy with everything you could possibly want. It is tucked away down a small side street that to our mind adds to the charm. It is warm, quiet and bright, so cosy. The kitchen is a delight that is fully equipped, dishwasher, washing machine and all the utensils that you would need. We had one small problem, we contacted Christine the owner and she had it dealt with in no time, her husband Todd came over and carried out the repair. Local restaurants, pubs and shops are a short walk away as is the beach front with some lovely gardens. Christine and Todd are lovely people, so welcoming and easy to talk to. To our mind this is the best cottage that we have stayed in and highly recommend it. Thank you Christine and Todd for allowing us to stay in your beautiful cottage.

Les, thank you so much for this wonderful feedback. We are so pleased that you enjoyed the cottage and for your understanding with the repair Todd came over to do. We will be spending some time there ourselves over the winter months. Property Owner

It was extremely clean, had everything we needed and the location in the centre of Filey was ideal. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and really appreciated the owners allowing us to take a second small dog with us. We will certainly be staying at the cottage again, it is a shame that it is not available at the same time next year. The cottage is a credit to the owners.

Thank you so much for your feedback. I’m pleased that you enjoyed your stay and hope you will be back again. Also, a big thanks for leaving it so clean and tidy. We really appreciate it Property Owner

Centrally located and comfortable home to come back to weather not great and watch television (Wimbledon) and read books. I did have a problem with the induction hob but I think that was me rather than the hob! Hazel

Thank you so much for your feedback Hazel. (I had a look at the hob and it seemed to be okay but I will keep checking it to ensure there isnt a fault which needs looking at.) Property Owner

We knew the location was ideal having stayed in another (now withdrawn) holiday let a few cottages along. Thank you Christine for providing a lovely place to stay. One thing I would suggest though is that the Youview TV box be updated as some on-demand apps no longer work.

  • "We enjoyed our stay."

The cottage is lovely and in a good position. The only reason it doesn't get top marks is because it is listed as having a DVD player and there wasn't one. We had brought some favourite films to watch and were looking forward to family film nights. We even went out and bought a cheap one but couldn't get it to work through the TV.

Stairs would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues, but everything else absolutely spot on. Photo is deceptive, in a good way!, as property is located just off Main Street down a narrow alley, so no passing traffic and straight into town on foot, also very close to Tesco for main shop, lots of lovely little greengrocers, butchers, bakers for fresh food. Just perfect for staying in Filey, and trips further afield to Dalby Forest, Scarborough, Whitby, Flamborough.... highly recommended. San Marco Italian restaurant worth visiting, along with lighthouse cafe, and the new wine bars (Bank and Captain Wills), and if visiting Flamborough try the Wold Cafe, near the lighthouse.

The cobbled slope leads down to the charming promenade and the tiny coble landing, where you can visit the lifeboat station, indulge in candy floss or try your hand in the small amusement arcade.

The beautiful sweeping bay is every child's dream, with golden sands, shallow rock pools and pony rides on the beach.

One can walk for miles along this magnificent sandy beach or on the windswept cliffs, part of the Cleveland Way long distance trail.

If you do want to use the car, there lies a country park and and an animal sanctuary on the edge of Filey, or Bempton RSPB Reserve is well worth a visit to see the puffins and kittiwakes.

About the location

FILEY

Scarborough 7.7 miles; Bridlington 10.5 miles.

Set in the magnificent Filey Bay, Filey is a traditional English seaside resort with a friendly atmosphere, offering a restful holiday, making it an ideal place to stay for walkers and wildlife watchers at any time of the year. Filey Brigg is a low headland that protects Filey Bay and provides good bird watching and seawatching opportunities all year round. The 400 ft high Bempton Cliffs (RSPB Reserve) to the south of Filey Bay are home to over 250,000 seabirds in the summer. The town itself seems almost caught in a time warp, retaining much of its character with individual shops, narrow paths and ginnels and there is a slipway where local fishermen keep their boats, plus delightful beach chalets that can be hired through the summer months. The bay is edged with two promenades and there are various gardens, where brass bands play on a Sunday afternoon. This small town is family orientated and there are loads of family activities such as Alpamare UK waterpark, Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park and the Filey Dams Nature Reserve, a wetland reserve where all kinds of common and rare birdlife can be seen. A short drive brings you to the busier town of Scarborough where you will find great beaches, a castle, the Rotunda Museum and the acclaimed Sea Life Centre. Other towns worth visiting close to Filey include Bridlington, Whitby, Hornsea and Saltburn, which all demonstrate the vibrancy of this picturesque North Yorkshire region.
