"The cottage was really beautiful and had a lovely homely atmosphere."

It’s been decorated with great taste. The children loved it and had lots of fun playing hide and seek. Beds were really comfy and with crisp white linen. Great location, 5 minute walk to the beach and 5 minutes from the town centre. Had a lovely break. I managed to park outside the property and my family easily found a parking space in the next street.

"There were only 3 of us in our party staying in the property for a few days and therefore space was not an issue ."

However, I would have been very disappointed if there were many more than 4 of us. The property is advertised to sleep 8. Whilst there are 8 beds (2 doubles and 2 twins) only the two doubles have any wardrobes or storage space. The twin rooms have none and so there would be nowhere to store anything - especially if you were staying for a week or more. Also, for 8 people there is only one bathroom with toilet and a separate wc so having only 1 bathroom is ridiculous. One of the bedrooms should really have been converted to another bathroom. The lounge can only seat 6 people, so again if there were 8 people then people would be sitting on the floor. Likewise the kitchen is not big enough to seat 8 people round the two small circular tables. There is also no aerial to the property and therefore no live TV other than BBC channels via iPlayer. All other channels can only be watched on catchup. I would expect live TV at a minimum. We did raise this with the owners via the help number whilst we were there but I am not sure they realise that things like ITV Hub do not show live TV through the TV. Finally, whilst no one’s fault, parking is extremely limited. It is on street parking and first come first served. We only had 1 car and managed to get the last space (this was in late October, out of season) but if we had more than one car we would have to have parked some way away. These were the negative points. On the positive side, the property was immaculately clean and beds were comfortable with good quality linen and appliances. It is literally a 2 minute walk to the beach and so the location was perfect. Overall, for a family of 4 or maybe 4 with a couple of small kids then it would be fine.

We are always trying to improve our accommodation for our guests so we appreciate you taking the time to help us do this We understand that for some guests the property would not suit individual party needs. We have had larger groups stay in the past with no complaints about the space but we understand that everyone is different. We would like to highlight the house is set up for 8 people, including a 8 seats in the living room (they are 3 seater sofa’s not 2) and 8 chairs and table in the kitchen. We would like to highlight chest of drawers are provided in the twin rooms for guests We realise that sometimes one bathroom is an issue with multiple guests, we do have one bathroom and a separate toilet to try and help this and we only advertise one bathroom, Our television does show live tv through BBC iplayer and ITV hub etc , I apologise that this was an issue for you. We will try to include this in our new welcome pack and property description so that people know that we use a smart TV instead of live TV and how to access it. The parking facilities will be updated also on the property description so that guests know prior to arriving how to access alternative parking if there is none available outside the property. "I didn’t really appreciate how difficult the parking was going to be."

So a more detailed description of where you can and can’t park would have been useful. Having driven down the road to find that that wasn’t a turning round point was not great. Also the bathroom door was very difficult to shut and lock. Two of our party actually cut their finger trying to slide the lock across. We could have done with more specific detail on the rubbish and recycling, maybe some information to read in the property? Other than these minor things it was a really comfortable, clean property.

With regards to the parking we know it is sometimes difficult to get parked directly outside the property. We have now updated the details on our description for parking so that future guests will know their options a little clearer before arriving. We also apologise that you had an issue with the bathroom door and we have asked our maintenance team to look into this for us. With regards to the rubbish and recycling we are currently working on this in order to make it more clearer for guests on how to recycle and where. Filey is a traditional English seaside resort with a friendly atmosphere, offering a restful holiday, making an ideal place to stay for walkers and wildlife watchers at any time of the year. A real gem on the Yorkshire coast. A fishing town on the North East Coast, Filey has enjoyed a reputation of being a resort since Victorian times, set beside the magnificent Filey Bay, a long stretch of beautiful sand, with Filey Brigg and its shallow rockpools to the north. Filey Brigg is a low headland that protects Filey Bay and provides good bird watching and seawatching opportunities all year round. The 400 ft high Bempton Cliffs (RSPB Reserve) to the south of Filey Bay are home to over 250,000 seabirds in the summer. Gannets, kittiwakes, puffins, guillimots and razorbills all nest there. Gannets are regularly seen diving for fish in Filey Bay. The Brigg area is an ideal place to watch for common and rarer waders, seabirds and migrating warblers,finches and thrushes. As well as seabirds, seals and other marine life, such as porpoises dolphins and minke whales can be seen in the sea around the Brigg. The town itself seems almost caught in a time warp, retaining much of its character with individual shops, narrow paths and ginnels. There is a small coble landing, a slipway where local fishermen keep their boats, plus delightful beach chalets that can be hired through the summer months. The bay is edged with two promenades and there are various gardens, where brass bands play on a Sunday afternoon. This small town is family orientated, crazy golf and candy floss. Also in Filey there is the Filey Dams Nature Reserve, a wetland reserve where common and rare waders and wildfowl can be seen as well as autumn gatherings of swallows, sand martins and house martins. Also there is Parish Wood (just off Sycamore Avenue) an unexpected gem that offers a wealth of wildlife. Willow warbler, chiffchaff, blackcap and tree sparrows breed there and a wide variety of other species are regularly seen such as great spotted woodpeckers and sparrow hawks. Parish Wood also provides shelter and food for a wide range of migrant bird species such as goldcrests, pied and spotted flycatchers, warblers, finches, thrushes and woodcocks. A short drive brings you to the busier town of Scarborough where for family fun you can visit the Alpamare Waterpark, a waterpark unlike anything the UK has ever seen before, as well as plenty to explore and discover in this lovely area.
