  • "The toaster does not eject so could be dangerous/fire hazard."

Also back door does not lock properly. Needs to be fixed. Microwave missing a foot. Central heating not clear how to use it. Bedding and towels should be provided. Covid is no excuse!! We enjoyed our stay. These are just a few things we noticed.

Cleaners need to do better job, debris in oven and adjoining cupboard ,spillage in microwave not cleaned properly, corners of lounge not cleaned ,and dusty , cobwebby, plastic bullet of toy gun found behind chair, could of been cleaned more thoroughly before rental, other than that it was what we expected ,a relaxing, spacious, and quiet property in a nice area

  • "First impressions count."

Outside drain blocked. Back door difficult to open. Keysafe useless as open and key pad missing. Utility room dirty and damp, hairs in sink, window glass has 2" gap. wood rotting. Bedrooms smell musty and damp, childrens' bedroom had a strange smell. Silverfish seen in bathroom. generally this property was neglected and in dire need of update/refurbishment and damp issues need to be addressed. Spiders everywhere. Garden furniture unsafe. Single bed mattresses had no support. My daughter bought an air bed instead. Very disappointing, not worthy of 3 star rating. Garden was as stated, but large pile of tree branches near house which need clearing. Filey is lovely but the property was not worth the rental charged.

  • "The flat was well located, within easy walking distance of all the resort has to offer."

Private parking was very handy, and the ground floor nature of it great for an elderly dog. The garden is large and well enclosed. A problem with the oven was quickly resolved by the owners. A very enjoyable, and much needed, break.

  • "The door to the kitchen was extremely stiff and we were initially unable to gain access."

After having spoken to Sykes and the owner we did get access. This would be worth pointing out to anyone using the property with the notes about the keys. The property was ideal for us and was in easy walking distance of the shops and beach. The property also had everything we needed for our break. Thank you

We have paid for these. Oven does not work properly. TV does not recieve bbc1 and 2. Back door doesn't close properly so cannot be locked.

  • "To be picky Pear Tree Cottage is not a cottage it is a flat."

That said, that is really the only non positive point I would make. The "cottage" was spacious, warm, well equipped and ideally located to access the beach of the town of Filey. The conservatory overlooking to secluded garden was a great place to sit on the couple of damp afternoons. It also has an off road parking space which made life easier. I would not hesitate to use it again.

TV signal is abysmal though and needs to be sorted. Often no signal and no television available. Facilities otherwise are very good.

  • "We loved the accomodation and the private parking was brilliant."

Our flat was very spacious and the kids enjoyed playing in the large enclosed garden. We would definitely go back as Filey was a good base to visit surrounding areas.

  • "Pear tree house was very comfortable, well appointed, warm and safe with a large enclosed garden great for dogs."

The holiday was a last blast for my brother as he has a terminal illness. The fact that it was a ground floor apartment all on one level was important. There are one or two things which I feel need looking at. The main one is that I could not determine which dustbin to use as only one was marked properly. More of an issue was that there was no room in any of them as they clearly had not been put out on Sunday night. Also the back door is sticking very badly. We had a wonderful time despite the bins and the door, and I shall certainly visit File y again.

  • "The flat is perfect for a family with a dog the garden is fully enclosed and a great little playground for the dog."

The flat is cosy and we found it clean and tidy. The cooker was a tad under heating so dinner took a little longer than expected.

About the location

Scarborough 7.5 miles; Bridlington 11 miles.

Filey is a traditional English seaside resort with a friendly atmosphere, offering a restful holiday, making an ideal place to stay for walkers and wildlife watchers at any time of the year. A real gem on the Yorkshire coast. A fishing town on the North East Coast, Filey has enjoyed a reputation of being a resort since Victorian times, set beside the magnificent Filey Bay, a long stretch of beautiful sand, with Filey Brigg and its shallow rockpools to the north. Filey Brigg is a low headland that protects Filey Bay and provides good bird watching and seawatching opportunities all year round. The 400 ft high Bempton Cliffs (RSPB Reserve) to the south of Filey Bay are home to over 250,000 seabirds in the summer. Gannets, kittiwakes, puffins, guillimots and razorbills all nest there. Gannets are regularly seen diving for fish in Filey Bay. The Brigg area is an ideal place to watch for common and rarer waders, seabirds and migrating warblers, finches and thrushes. As well as seabirds, seals and other marine life, such as porpoises dolphins and minke whales can be seen in the sea around the Brigg. The town itself seems almost caught in a time warp, retaining much of its character with individual shops, narrow paths and ginnels. There is a small coble landing, a slipway where local fishermen keep their boats, plus delightful beach chalets that can be hired through the summer months. The bay is edged with two promenades and there are various gardens, where brass bands play on a Sunday afternoon. This small town is family orientated, crazy golf and candy floss. Also in Filey there is the Filey Dams Nature Reserve, a wetland reserve where common and rare waders and wildfowl can be seen as well as autumn gatherings of swallows, sand martins and house martins. Also there is Parish Wood (just off Sycamore Avenue) an unexpected gem that offers a wealth of wildlife. Willow warbler, chiffchaff, blackcap and tree sparrows breed there and a wide variety of other species are regularly seen such as great spotted woodpeckers and sparrow hawks. Parish Wood also provides shelter and food for a wide range of migrant bird species such as goldcrests, pied and spotted flycatchers, warblers, finches, thrushes and woodcocks. A short drive brings you to the busier town of Scarborough where for family fun you can visit the Alpamare Waterpark, a waterpark unlike anything the UK has ever seen before, as well as plenty to explore and discover in this lovely area.
