  • "Nice house, great location."

For price paid expected some basics E.g clean house on arrival, welcome pack, working appliances and reliable hot water. We understand ‘things happen’ but our experiences continued throughout week. To expect guests to have to contact local services and take time out of holiday to deal with issues is abit much. Visitor book info dated 2019, just felt as if the care for visitor experience isn’t really there anymore. Contacted owner who was perfectly polite but mentioned his holiday in all communication, no offence but it was my families holiday impacted by the failures. We had to spend 2 hours mopping floors from leaks, waiting in for cleaners to revisit to clean property which should have already been done. We felt like a hinderance. Not the best experience, pity as such a potential in that property if basics sorted.

  • "The parking is very hard."

It did say in the double garage but up a very narrow lane. You carnt get a good turn to get into the garage. We parked away from the house which was such a shame as the property is amazing and everything you need.

  • "We all had a fantastic stay at rose cottage."

The house was very comfortable and had everything we needed, although there was a few minor finishing touches needed but overall would definitely recommend the cottage and the area. It was very tight getting the cars up the lane to the property and unfortunately could only park one in the garage but that was mentioned in the reviews so we easily parked one car on the street at the bottom of the lane. We went on some lovely walks around the area and the food was amazing, would definitely stay again.

  • "Rose Cottage is a robust holiday home very suitable for a young family with lively children."

Also. the free EV charging point in the garage is a great plus factor. Initially manoeuvring to reverse out of the garage in order to drive forward down the narrow lane was difficult but the skill was soon mastered. The splendid beach is easily within walking distance for the fit and healthy. To sum up, Rose cottage is an excellent base for visiting the beach the Town and the surrounding countryside and attractions

  • "Fabulous property, we cooked a three course Christmas dinner for eight people so definitely well equipped."

Every member of our family had a great time and the town of Filey was lovely and the Imperial pub is very dog friendly. The entrance to the property was very narrow and tested our driving skills but we never had any problems parking in the town so it did not spoil our holidays. We will definitely be back.

  • "The picture in the brochure made the house look quite boring, but in fact it was converted stables tucked away in a fascinating corner of Filey - the chap who lived on the corner told us all the history of it - why there was a piece of tombstone built into the wall opposite and much more."

The view was really just the wall opposite plus some seagulls, but it was tucked away down a narrow alleyway (reverse a car down it at your peril!) and five minutes walk down little secret staircases to the quietest spot on the beach. We were glad we came with 8 people instead of the maximum 9 - there were only 8 chairs to sit round the table - but it was clean, nicely furnished, really comfortable and great for children. We loved Filey - something for everyone, from rock pools to cocktail bars and the dog loved it too. We had a great holiday!

  • "Rose Cottage was everything we had hoped for!"

The beds were super comfy, and the house was clean, and bright, and had pretty much everything we needed. A well equipped kitchen, and lovely clean bathrooms. Filey is a nice little town, with a fantastic beach, which our boys really enjoyed. It was great to be able to walk there so easily! We were also chuffed to be able to get our two cars (just about!!) in the garage, which made life a lot simpler. The local area is brilliant, with loads to see and do, even if the weather isn’t great. If I am to be really fussy, there were just a couple of little DIY bits that weren’t quite finished off, eg in the main bathroom upstairs; there were no kitchen scissors, and there was only 1 tea towel for the week. It would also be nice to have mirrors in the bedrooms for doing hair etc in the morning. Having said that, these are extremely minor points, and really didn’t detract at all from our stay. We just thought you’d want to know! We would definitely recommend Rose Cottage, and would love to come again! Thanks for making our stay so comfy, and pleasant.

  • "The cottage was clean, spacious and very conveniently located just off the centre of Filey."

It had the further advantage of being pet friendly. Finding it was quite difficult and the lack of a green space outside was the reason for the 4 star rating. Access was down a narrow lane which I found difficult to reverse in in my 4x4. That said, the rest of the family had no trouble in their saloon cars. We had gorgeous weather for the whole week so most of the family’s time was spent on the beach and cars did not move once parked.

  • "The cottage is ideally located for all filey has to offer."

2 mins walk to shops, restaurants and pubs. 5 mins to the beach down road or steps. Property seems to be having some updates done so in places not fully finished but nothing that particularly takes away from the house. The lane is narrow to get the car down, forwards was definitely easier than reversing and we managed to use the garage to turn around. Beds are super comfortable and kitchen well equipped (take a sharp knife for cooking). Showers lovely and powerful. Seagulls dancing on the roof kept us awake a bit (I think because there's no loft space between roof and bedrooms) but I guess that's to be expected by the seaside. Overall a very lovely week with our 3 year old and new baby.

  • "We stayed in Rose Cottage at the end of May."

We had a lovely week. The cottage was very comfortable and in a good position to access shops, beach, country park etc without having to use a car. The bathrooms are lovely with really good showers and we appreciated the thick large towels provided. As previously reviewed parking or even accessing to unload/load can be a significant issue and many might not feel confident driving (or reversing)up the alley. We did find free parking in the streets around relatively easily though. Our arrival was marred somewhat by having no welcome pack or information so we were unable to use the cooker (no instruction manuals), the bins were full but no instructions on refuse collection, coat and boots left from previous occupants and several kitchen cupboards with various items of food left in them. No QR code with which to check in. Sykes cottages were brilliant in their helpfulness and some aspects were addressed that evening. Another significant issue was the lack of curtains in the master bedroom which with light mornings was not really acceptable but we addressed this as best we could with foil and draping clothing. Lastly, the description talks of a front ‘terrace’. The ‘terrace’ is literally the loose gravel alley/track to the house, used as access to the next door property. Rose Cottage is a really nice comfortable property in a good location but memories are marred by the stresses of arrival particularly during COVID when one looks for reassurance.

  • "Really nice apartment, main issue was parking (but the same must be true for most of old Filey)."

It was possible to reverse up the path to the property but it was VERY tight, rutted and initially up a slope. I can imagine parking around town might be 'fun' in the summer. Great tv, Wi-Fi and really comfy beds. The oven was a bit small for cooking Xmas lunch but I guess that is not a problem for most visitors have. Overall and enjoyable trip

About the location

FILEY

Scarborough 7.7 miles; Bridlington 10.5 miles.

Set in the magnificent Filey Bay, Filey is a traditional English seaside resort with a friendly atmosphere, offering a restful holiday, making it an ideal place to stay for walkers and wildlife watchers at any time of the year. Filey Brigg is a low headland that protects Filey Bay and provides good bird watching and seawatching opportunities all year round. The 400 ft high Bempton Cliffs (RSPB Reserve) to the south of Filey Bay are home to over 250,000 seabirds in the summer. The town itself seems almost caught in a time warp, retaining much of its character with individual shops, narrow paths and ginnels and there is a slipway where local fishermen keep their boats, plus delightful beach chalets that can be hired through the summer months. The bay is edged with two promenades and there are various gardens, where brass bands play on a Sunday afternoon. This small town is family orientated and there are loads of family activities such as Alpamare UK waterpark, Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park and the Filey Dams Nature Reserve, a wetland reserve where all kinds of common and rare birdlife can be seen. A short drive brings you to the busier town of Scarborough where you will find great beaches, a castle, the Rotunda Museum and the acclaimed Sea Life Centre. Other towns worth visiting close to Filey include Bridlington, Whitby, Hornsea and Saltburn, which all demonstrate the vibrancy of this picturesque North Yorkshire region.
