  • "Sailors Lodge is in a perfect location for the local shops, tea rooms etc which are a 5 minute walk away, as is the lovely park with boating lake, children’s play area and cafe."

The flat itself is comfortable and clean with the expected facilities. More bedroom storage space would be good (e.g drawers) as would a tumble dryer or outside line (especially as we stayed for two weeks). The flat has a slightly odd layout meaning the main bedroom has no external window making it quite dark. Some parts seem quite old fashioned and could do with a bit of TLC as could the outside spaces which were not as appealing as the photos. Taking all this into account we thought it was very expensive for what you get. However, Filey is a lovely seaside resort, ideal for a family and all in all we had a great holiday.

  • "A lovely ground floor apartment."

Very clean, modern kitchen with all the facilities dish washer, washing machine etc. Good use of space especially the dining area very light and airy with a small seat at the side. Small outside area with table and chairs. Lots of hot water and a decent size shower. Apartment very central 2 minutes to the shops or the park. Beach approximately 5 minutes. Highly recommend. The only down side was Sykes cottage booking fee which would make me think twice about booking with them again.

  • "What a lovely clean apartment, it was exactly like the description given."

The bedding was very clean, a very good start to the holiday. Very well situated bot to town and beach.. All heating and electricity included. There was a washing machine and dishwasher if needed also a fridge and cooker. All cutlery and towels provided. There is also a hair drier.Childrens games also provided. The only downside was lack of cupboard space in the kitchen, also it would benefit from bins in both bedrooms and the lounge. Two new cooking trays could do with renewing. A very good holiday was had with good weather in October. Fully recommended up to date holiday modern apartment. Loved Filey as a child and at 80 still love y.

  • "The property is very well located, just a few minutes walk from shops, a park and the beach."

The property was spotless and had all the essentials such as loo rolls, washing up liquid etc. wifi works well at the front of the property but struggled with reception at the back. The kitchen is well equipped, although no cupboard space for storing food. We felt really comfortable during our stay. It’s street parking but we always found a space. Filey is beautiful traditional seaside town (not tacky), never felt over crowded. Stunning beach which felt safe for the kids to paddle. Great transport links via buses or trains. Filey is located on the cliff top though so if you have mobility issues you may struggle. Review from my son (11): “10 out of 10 will go there again”

  • "Sailors Lodge is fantastic and I couldn’t believe how big it is-the photos don’t do it justice."

The decor is lovely and it was really great to get back there and relax each evening. Based on the photos I’d prepared for us all to be living on top of each other during our stay, but accepted that it would be worth it for the location in Filey. So to open the door and find so much space was just the best. We’ve always stayed at Haven before but this year fancied being in the town, and it will be the town forever now for us. Sailors Lodge will be the first place I look for as it was the perfect home for our stay. I didn’t want to leave!

The shower is very powerful and easy to use . Beautiful double bedroom. The second bed room is small with a pull out bed underneath. 2 people in a double and 1or 2 children would be exellent , but 3 adults sleeping seperately not so good I took the pull out bed to the living room .

Thank you for the lovely comments regarding your recent stay at Sailors Lodge. The description regarding the second bedroom is clearly identified on Sykes information as only being suitable for children and states that the single beds are only 2ft 6 rather than a standard single bed size. About the location

FILEY

Scarborough 7.7 miles; Bridlington 10.5 miles.

Filey is a traditional English seaside resort with a friendly atmosphere, offering a restful holiday, making an ideal place to stay for walkers and wildlife watchers at any time of the year. A real gem on the Yorkshire coast. A fishing town on the North East Coast, Filey has enjoyed a reputation of being a resort since Victorian times, set beside the magnificent Filey Bay, a long stretch of beautiful sand, with Filey Brigg and its shallow rockpools to the north. Filey Brigg is a low headland that protects Filey Bay and provides good bird watching and seawatching opportunities all year round. The 400 ft high Bempton Cliffs (RSPB Reserve) to the south of Filey Bay are home to over 250,000 seabirds in the summer. Gannets, kittiwakes, puffins, guillimots and razorbills all nest there. Gannets are regularly seen diving for fish in Filey Bay. The Brigg area is an ideal place to watch for common and rarer waders, seabirds and migrating warblers, finches and thrushes. As well as seabirds, seals and other marine life, such as porpoises dolphins and minke whales can be seen in the sea around the Brigg. The town itself seems almost caught in a time warp, retaining much of its character with individual shops, narrow paths and ginnels. There is a small coble landing, a slipway where local fishermen keep their boats, plus delightful beach chalets that can be hired through the summer months. The bay is edged with two promenades and there are various gardens, where brass bands play on a Sunday afternoon. This small town is family orientated, crazy golf and candy floss. Also in Filey there is the Filey Dams Nature Reserve, a wetland reserve where common and rare waders and wildfowl can be seen as well as autumn gatherings of swallows, sand martins and house martins. Also there is Parish Wood (just off Sycamore Avenue) an unexpected gem that offers a wealth of wildlife. Willow warbler, chiffchaff, blackcap and tree sparrows breed there and a wide variety of other species are regularly seen such as great spotted woodpeckers and sparrow hawks. Parish Wood also provides shelter and food for a wide range of migrant bird species such as goldcrests, pied and spotted flycatchers, warblers, finches, thrushes and woodcocks. A short drive brings you to the busier town of Scarborough where for family fun you can visit the Alpamare Waterpark, a waterpark unlike anything the UK has ever seen before, as well as plenty to explore and discover in this lovely area.
