  • "Thank you to the Owner for letting me stay in Sleepers Cottage this week and also for letting me extend my holiday at short notice."

Sleepers cottage is a warm and cosy place to stay with everything you can possibly need and much more. All what I can say is JUST PERFECT. I have stayed on The Bay for a couple of years now and this cottage has been my best one so far. I will be definitely booking again sometime soon.

Thank you for your comments. Its always a pleasure to receive such positive feedback. Hope you had a lovely holiday and look forward to you booking with us again soon. Property Owner

  • "My family and I had an extended stay at sleeper cottage, we felt right at home as the property had everything we needed."

Beds super comfy and the kitchen had plenty of cupboard space. The outdoor space outside the property was great for our young boys to play safely and we felt grateful we had chosen sleeper cottage as a lot of other properties do not have the luxury or having a large safe space to play . Having access to the gym, pool and pub was great and we made plenty of use of these. Beach only a 10 minute walk away. Would highly recommend sleeper cottage!

So glad you enjoyed your stay at Sleeper Cottage and it provided for all your needs. Thank you for the positive feedback. Good luck in your new adventure. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage - everything provided to ensure maximum satisfaction - bed linen, towels, washer, dishwasher, wi-fi, SMART TV, comfy beds."

We didn’t arrive until 8 pm and it was good to find the beds made up for us, fluffy white towels available for baths and showers. I have no hesitation in recommending this property as it felt ‘home from home’. It’s a 10 minute walk to the beach. The site facilities are good too but would recommend that it would be more convenient if the swimming pool were to have a booking system rather than ‘turn up and wait’.

  • "I am going to leave feedback however having left feedback a year ago some of the issues I mentioned are still there and having read other feedback it comes across that the owner doesn't take any notice of the feedback so in a,way your wasting your time,it comes across that they dont take the criticism on board as problems that were mentioned 1-2yrs ago are still there like the yellow stains on the kitchen and entrance hallway floors, anyway here goes."

The floor downstairs clearly isnt ever mopped as night after night my kids feet were black(I wear slippers),I did mop it a couple of days in which made a slight difference but as its clearly not mopped after every stay(the mop bucket was bone dry and had dust in it)it needs a good scrub, the water was black due to the dirt that had built up, I was even sweeping dog hairs up and I don't have a dog. Behind and under the sofa's you can tell are never cleaned as the amount of dirt that was under and behind was terrible, only the visible flooring is hoovered. Attention to cleaning is definately required, there was a great big cobweb hanging from the ceiling in the lounge. The walls need a lick of paint, the marks that were on the stairs walls a year ago are still there. There are crayon like marks under the TV,come on a lick of paint doesn't take much. It needs some TLC to make it up to the standard that it should be for the price you pay. The creaky floor in both bedrooms are still there and again on the stairs and it does become annoying after a couple of days so imagine after a week. Could do with some deep roasting trays as I struggled to cook a roast chicken dinner(had to cook the chicken in a lasagna dish) also missing a masher. Dont get me wrong its a nice cottage but some simple small improvements would make it so much better like a lick of paint,it just depends if the owner wants to spend money on improvements or if they are just in it for the money which thats what it comes across as sadly. Both TV's do not work well either, its the signal it gets distorted so it sounds like a robot, its fine if you watch netflix its only if you want to watch an actual TV programme. A bigger freezer is definitely needed so you can do a proper shop to last you the week. All of the mugs were stained and I washed them a few times in the dishwasher. The window in the twin bedroom that previous people mention as broken isnt broken you just need the key to unlock it which was in the glasses cupboard in the kitchen. The outdoor furniture is a bit naff, the seats are so uncomfortable, definately needs updating to something better but this has been mentioned on a few occassions but nothing has been done. Shower head position is awful, you end up flooding the bathroom floor everytime you have a shower, again this was mentioned last year, eventually this will cause problems with the floor and rotting and water damage,a simple shower curtain would rectify this problem. We had an enjoyable stay and this was our 2nd time stopping at Sleeper Cottage but I feel that should some of the improvements Ive mentioned not be done I wouldnt want to return. Price wise what I paid was ok but if I was paying the higher prices that this cottage goes for in the summer holidays I would expect these issues to not be there and would put in more of a complaint. Its just not up to the level it should be to get away with charging £800-£1000 a week.

Thank you very much for your feedback- I can assure you we do very much take it on board. In fact, following feedback, we have recently changed the sofas, had new beds put in, and the week before your stay the old garden furniture was replaced with new ones, so it is disappointing to hear that you found them uncomfortable. Unfortunately, the small yellow stain on the floor you are referring to was done by a previous guest just weeks after we had that new flooring put down. We have had multiple professionals look at this to try and get it removed-it is a lot better than it was but has not been able to be completely removed unfortunately. The area does struggle with TV signal now and a again and some days it can be patchy but the apps on the TV work fine, including BBC, ITV, 4, Netflix etc. I am disappointed to hear that the cleaning was not up to standard, this is not acceptable and the housekeepers have been contacted by both the us (the owners) and the agency to ensure this does not happen again. I understand a bigger freezer would be beneficial but unfortunately, in the current layout, there is no space in the kitchen to accommodate one- maybe in the future if this changes we can add one in. Thank you for your comments regarding the deep roasting tray and masher, we will get these for the kitchen. The shower head can be angled but we will look into another shower head that might work better. Thank you for your comments, we do take them onboard. Property Owner

  • "This is my fifth stay at The Bay and my first at Sleeper Cottage."

Nice cottage and the location was good with a large shared grassed area out back. The downsides to this property was the cleanliness. The first thing we noticed on entry to the property was the smell, a burnt smell hits you as soon as you walk in. I spent the first evening vacuuming the floors and washing pots. I’d ordered a shop to be delivered before I realised it didn’t have a proper fridge freezer just an under cupboard fridge and a small freezer shelf. Thankfully Asda took the frozen items back. The rest of the kitchen pots and pans were good and plentiful. The outdoor furniture was old and dirty and looking around at all the other properties all had much better outdoor dining facilities. The weather was so nice but we had to use our own beech chairs to sit outside. The window in the smaller bedroom was broken and in the heat was quite uncomfortable to sleep in there without it opening.

  • "The location of the property was stunning."

We have been to The Bay several times and picked this house due to its location. The kitchen was very modern the only slight let down was the dinning table and coffee table which didn’t seem to fit in with rest of the house.

  • "Lovely cottage and yes I would book again but there could be a few improvements that could be done to make things even better especially if you were paying the higher prices in the high summer season."

The shower head is positioned wrong,it really needs a shower curtain as you end up with water all over the floor as the screen isnt wide enough. There was a clump of hair in the corner of the shower but general cleanliness was ok,the stains ect that other review's mention in the bathroom were not there. The hallway and lounge area floors have yellow stains on them. The bushes infront of the kitchen window need cutting back as you cant see out it. The creaky bedroom floor that someone mentioned in 2019 is still there but at the end of the day it didnt bother me that much and its a holiday cottage thats used week in week out and this wouldnt be an easy task to do. Yes it needs a bit of TLC as I wouldnt pay more than what I did and when some pay over a £1000 you would expect things to be top notch but for what I paid it was fine. The bed and pillows are so comfortable and the kitchen is well stocked with utensils ect Could do with some better and more modern outdoor furniture. Yes parking is a bit of a problem especially if you go in very busy periods but there are other areas available. The directions are wrong too its the 2nd turning on the right not the 1st and there isnt a ground floor bedroom. I would use this cottage again as there was just the 2 of us,maybe it would be a bit small for 4 adults but for a young family ideal. Local eateries I can recommend are The Honey Pot but must book, huge portions and nice friendly staff and loads of choice. Thirty in Filey is a must for brunch, breakfast or lunch and the Bucaneer(Smugglers Cove) in Filey is a great place for dinner but again must book. All in all we had a great stay and Im a regular at The Bay and this was £200 cheaper than booking a cottage directly with the resort.

Lots of marks on floor and sink,Various marks on doors and walls.Shower screen needs extended to stop the floor from getting wet. Bushes out side kitchen window need attention. Bathroom had urine stained filthy dusty skirting boards. Tile grout stained . Bath seal a mess and you lie u In the bath looking at mold where the screen meets the bath. Considering let cost over a grand for the week the simply is not good enough. At this level a coffee press and chopping board would have been nice. Server also unwashed cups in the cupboard with clean ones. Yuk

  • "We always stay at the bay in different cottages, but the last two years the standards have been disappointing, so I came armed with cleaning materials but when we walked into your cottage I was so happy!"

It looks like it’s been recently refurbished it was clean and modern even the curtains and carpet looked new, it’s a beautiful cottage! Everything we needed was there, plenty of cooking utensils, washing up liquid even hand wash in the toilets. The beds were soo comfortable and the pillows were amazing! Where are they from I want some! I would definitely stay in your cottage again. The car parking is a bit tight though which I know you can’t do anything about it is first come first served but apart from that we loved your cottage. Thankyou.

  • "The cleanliness of this house was not up to your normal standards."

Dog hairs on the carpet, dirty windows and cobwebs. since we are in a pandemic there was no sanitizer or hand soap in the toilets. Every day you hear about being green and the environment and there is no recycling at this property. as a couple we put at least 2 bags of rubbish into general rubbish that could have been recycled. Numerous light bulbs had gone. Parking is not the best, we was lucky but if it was busy you would have problems. you can't use an electric car as there are no charging points. Description is wrong as your directions say it is the first turning on the right, but it is the second on the right. there was an identical house to ours, which could have caused confusion. you say there is a downstairs bedroom, but you do not say that it's a sofa bed. we had a good time, but it was not up to your normal high standards. Thank you

The only slightly criticism would be the sofas were a little small for 4 adults and not overly comfortable to sit on. Other than that, fantastic cottage and very enjoyable holiday.

  • "Just to start by saying we had a wonderful week away and thoroughly enjoyed our holiday."

However we noticed several areas were unclean. A lot of dust on skirting and splash stains on bathroom door. 3 mugs in the cupboard were filthy. We are not complainers and we’re having a great time but especially with COVID it should have been exceptionally clean. We had not been sent any details from Sykes about pre booking any activities so everything was full when we arrived. Apart from that, it was a lovely house and very spacious. Uncomfortable beds but you do tend to get that whilst away. Lovely grassed area at the back to sit out at.

Thank you for your feedback, we are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at Sleeper Cottage. Thank you for bringing to our attention the cleanliness issues, these have now been rectified. We have also contacted The Bay regarding pre-booking of the leisure activities and have now updated our guest information to reflect this. Property Owner

  • "This cottage was clean and tidy, conveniently placed on at the Bay complex."

Ideal for touring the area. Very dog friendly and the site has an on site pub and swimming pool. Easy enough access to the beach from the site. The creaking floor upstairs and up the stairs does need addressing though manageable for a weekend break but try being quiet when you need the loo in the night!! or if you go to bed later than anyone else. Three bulbs need replacing in the kitchen area. Didn't find any information pack or details of things to do in the area however as regular visitors to the area we were fine. We recommend Triccolos is Scarborough (not sure of the spelling) with their early bird menu and also The Honey Pot Inn, huge Yorkshire portions and lovely. That is at Speeton. The cottage was clean and tidy but would benefit from some TLC. Parking is first come and first served and we were never lucky so had to park a bit away so bear that in mind if you would like a definite spot.

About the location

FILEY

Scarborough 7.7 miles; Bridlington 10.5 miles.

Set in the magnificent Filey Bay, Filey is a traditional English seaside resort with a friendly atmosphere, offering a restful holiday, making it an ideal place to stay for walkers and wildlife watchers at any time of the year. Filey Brigg is a low headland that protects Filey Bay and provides good bird watching and seawatching opportunities all year round. The 400 ft high Bempton Cliffs (RSPB Reserve) to the south of Filey Bay are home to over 250,000 seabirds in the summer. The town itself seems almost caught in a time warp, retaining much of its character with individual shops, narrow paths and ginnels and there is a slipway where local fishermen keep their boats, plus delightful beach chalets that can be hired through the summer months. The bay is edged with two promenades and there are various gardens, where brass bands play on a Sunday afternoon. This small town is family orientated and there are loads of family activities such as Alpamare UK waterpark, Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park and the Filey Dams Nature Reserve, a wetland reserve where all kinds of common and rare birdlife can be seen. A short drive brings you to the busier town of Scarborough where you will find great beaches, a castle, the Rotunda Museum and the acclaimed Sea Life Centre. Other towns worth visiting close to Filey include Bridlington, Whitby, Hornsea and Saltburn, which all demonstrate the vibrancy of this picturesque North Yorkshire region.
