We had a phone call to say that the property was ready for us, a little earlier than arranged but as we were a little later than we had hoped to be we rang Sue just as we were arriving and she came straight away to show us around. A lovely warm welcome with a complimentary basket of essentials to make a welcome cuppa! The photos do not do the property justice and we couldn't find fault with anything. I thought something was missing in the lounge but my husband remembered the lovely Christmas tree from our earlier stay! Really spoilt for choice with more books than a library, games and even jigsaws as well as toys for younger children. Lovely linen and more towels than we needed....perfect! And within a 3 minute walk of our favourite restaurant...Bella Italia is just around the corner but do book. We went twice during our stay and the restaurant was full on both occasions. We had a lovely stay here and will definitely return.

The owner who met us on arrival was very keen to address any problems as and when they may have arisen. I would however like to point out that a tumble dryer would have been handy as there is adequate space in the utility but this was not a big issue as there is a launderette a short walk away. Also a grab rail over the bath would be a big help to older visitors. We are definitely not ruling out a return visit!

Had a comfortable stay and my granddaughter who is only 17 months old was forever fetching me to play with a tremendous variety of toys which were in a separate downstairs room which throughout the holiday she dominated as her playroom. I think we both loved it ,my granddaughter due to the toys and me getting her attention. Our friends had the on-suite bathroom which they appreciated, and my son, partner and granddaughter had the middle bedroom which gave them adequate space , having the little one. The safety gate was a blessing at the bottom of the stairs during the daytime. The garage/store was just round the corner or Tesco,s was a stones throw away. All in all a good spot to stay , I would recommend the Robins to anyone wanting to stay in Filey.

A few tea bags, small milk etc on arrival. I guess with some accommodations in the past the proprietors have surpassed them self’s with providing a lot of basic items - salt, pepper, bin liners, fairy liquid, bleach for bathrooms. However, I do not feel that it is suitable for elderly or disabled people. The stairs were extremely steep and the polished floorboards were difficult for the disabled or elderly. Also the house accepts pets which is good as we have a dog but she found it really difficult to walk on the floorboards and kept slipping. I feel also it would be better to have some net curtains on the front windows as you felt were open to people walking by or from the opposite side of the road. About the location

FILEY

Scarborough 7.7 miles; Bridlington 10.5 miles.

Filey is a traditional English seaside resort with a friendly atmosphere, offering a restful holiday, making an ideal place to stay for walkers and wildlife watchers at any time of the year. A real gem on the Yorkshire coast. A fishing town on the North East Coast, Filey has enjoyed a reputation of being a resort since Victorian times, set beside the magnificent Filey Bay, a long stretch of beautiful sand, with Filey Brigg and its shallow rockpools to the north. Filey Brigg is a low headland that protects Filey Bay and provides good bird watching and seawatching opportunities all year round. The 400 ft high Bempton Cliffs (RSPB Reserve) to the south of Filey Bay are home to over 250,000 seabirds in the summer. Gannets, kittiwakes, puffins, guillimots and razorbills all nest there. Gannets are regularly seen diving for fish in Filey Bay. The Brigg area is an ideal place to watch for common and rarer waders, seabirds and migrating warblers, finches and thrushes. As well as seabirds, seals and other marine life, such as porpoises dolphins and minke whales can be seen in the sea around the Brigg. The town itself seems almost caught in a time warp, retaining much of its character with individual shops, narrow paths and ginnels. There is a small coble landing, a slipway where local fishermen keep their boats, plus delightful beach chalets that can be hired through the summer months. The bay is edged with two promenades and there are various gardens, where brass bands play on a Sunday afternoon. This small town is family orientated, crazy golf and candy floss. Also in Filey there is the Filey Dams Nature Reserve, a wetland reserve where common and rare waders and wildfowl can be seen as well as autumn gatherings of swallows, sand martins and house martins. Also there is Parish Wood (just off Sycamore Avenue) an unexpected gem that offers a wealth of wildlife. Willow warbler, chiffchaff, blackcap and tree sparrows breed there and a wide variety of other species are regularly seen such as great spotted woodpeckers and sparrow hawks. Parish Wood also provides shelter and food for a wide range of migrant bird species such as goldcrests, pied and spotted flycatchers, warblers, finches, thrushes and woodcocks. A short drive brings you to the busier town of Scarborough where for family fun you can visit the Alpamare Waterpark, a waterpark unlike anything the UK has ever seen before, as well as plenty to explore and discover in this lovely area.
