"We had a fabulous week lovely apartment."
My husbands mobility is not good so found bathroom a bit small. I always take bathroom stool. and it was needed. We would like a back door the next time we visit The bay as we loved it and will be back. Could not find leisure passes rang (Helen) who came out and delivered us her pass such a lovely lady had to drive two hours to drop off our pass thank you so much (Helen). nothing is too much trouble so loved are stay.

I booked it because I have osteoarthritis and struggle to get into a high sided bath, so it was great to have a walk in shower. The car free area outside was just right for my little dog to spend a penny first thing and at bedtime. It is close to all amenities. I would be happy to return. Val

"Having used Sykes' for many years a certain level is to be expected so I was surprised that for the ist time ever there was no welcome pack ie :tea n biscuits."
My wife and I are disabled so it was disappointing to find the map to find the property was incorrect causing me to have to wander around to find it,not a problem for most people,exhausting for me.Sykes' instructions imply parking near the property however it was a real toil for me carrying luggage and shopping 50m - 100m each time. Instructions mention "fridge" ,you need to make it clear that there is no freezer. There was no instructions on how to use the heating system however by pure chance we have the same Hive system at home so were able to use it. Having said all this the apartment was very nice and suited our purpose and my points are hopefully taken as positive critism.For able bodied people I would recommend but not for the less abled.

We pride ourselves on our 5 star Tripadvisor rating, and always make sure we act on customer feedback.As well as the detailed map and access details which is sent through to all guests prior to arrival. The pack includes the What3words App location which is edicts,jazzy,wildfires. For future guests I can confirm that the apartment is central to all the amenties , located on Sunrise Drive and directly opposite the tennis court. You can access the apartment through the communal black painted door at the rear. You can park anywhere on site the nearest location is outside the central complex or on Talisker Walk, both are approximately 15 metres from the apartment. I can confirm the Hive heating system is not operated remotedly as highlighted in the info pack sent prior to arrival and guests can use the simple button to change the temperature. As always if any customer requires any support during there stay then please ring me on 07764892998 (24/7). We respect your feedback but wish to highlight the positive feedback from other customers which includes the apartments central location to all amenities, ten minutes walk from the award winning beach, ground floor location and a walk in shower. "The apartment was lovely and modern with a fully equipped kitchen."
I was disappointed however, wuth the comfort of our stay. The sofa in the living area was very uncomfortable. The dining chairs need some sort of padded seat cushions as they are very hard to sit on comfortably. The bed was comfy but there were no protectors on the pillows or mattress . The bathroom was lovely. I like this area of filey in yorkshire but I would not stay in the apartment again unfortunately. I did have to contact the owner on something and she was very accommodating and friendly

Dear Susan, Thank you for your feedback that was received 2 weeks following your stay. We are blessed to have the award winning Filey beach on our doorstep and within a ten minute walk! Our recent upgrade to Super Wifi has been well received by our guests along with the complimentary Netflix. I have liased with my cleaning contractors Simplicity cleaners in Filey and they have confirmed that damage has been caused to the sofa by what appears to be a small dog clawing on the sofa, this was approx 1-2 cmwide. As a result I have taken immediate action and replaced the sofa (25/06/2024).. For my future guests please be reassured that I have replaced like for like with a double L shaped bed sofa, which is handy for accommodating extra guests, at no extra cost . I can confirm a mattress protector and pillow protectors were in place and the cleaners found these along with the bedding in the bedroom wardrobe. "Toilet had poo on outside had to clean it toaster had plastic knob missing had to push down metal which was sharp hairs on sofa found place hard to find as no numbers on road side of property it was a one bedroom apartment but must of been 20 sets of knives and forks?"
Looks like the cleaning was rushed I'm our opinion the bin in the kitchen is broke had to keep lifting up lid with hand which was greasy also dried hard food on chairs

I wouldn’t normally go into so much detail following guests comments but I feel it is important to prospective guests reading the reviews to be provided with the facts. On the day of your arrival you contacted me at 11.45am stating that the apartment was not ready. I explained as per the welcome pack that the check in was 3pm but I would liase with my cleaning team Simplicity Filey to see if this could be scheduled asap, this was Accommodated and I consequently provided you with a complimentary early check in. You insisted on been in attendance whilst the clean took place and no issues were raised at the time, apart from you were concerned on the extended length it was taking to clean. Following your feedback I have replaced the toaster it appears the knob had been pulled off and replaced the bin with a swing bin rather than a pedal bin. As to signage we provide comprehensive directions and the entrance has a numbered and name sign outside the property we also offer a 24/7 helpline number which is 07764892998 and the What3words location. As to the number of utensils we have provided ample crockery as the apartment has a dishwasher for guests convience and we want to be environmental friendly Where possible. I have passed on your feedback to the Cleaning manager and he has reassured me that the apartment was clean upon your check in. However as the owner I will continue to conduct spot checks and quality assurance checks to ensure our high standards and 5 star ratings are Maintained. "The description on the summary listing said a full length shower but was disappointed to see it wasn’t."
There was a gap between the end of the shower tray and the wall and however careful it was impossible not to get some water on the floor in this gap when showering. The wash basin is ridiculously small with an oversized mixer tap and again impossible not to get water on the floor when brushing teeth and washing hands. The microwave is not very accessible being situated in an overhead top corner cupboard. Despite all this our stay was comfortable.

We're sorry to hear that you had difficulties with some of the amentities in the property which were as a result of an extensive renovation which includes a new bathroom and kitchen following guest recommendations and feedback. We did have an option of fitting a shower cubicle but guests preference was to have a longer shower tray. We also comtemplated a bigger sink but this would have impacted upon the space between the toilet and sink for our guests. We continue to issue a bath mat between the gap to avoid the above. The property was exactly as described and had everything you needed. We will definitely be visiting again. The only down side was there was a smell of smoke in the property (clearly from previous people). Sadly due to the window design and us having a dog we couldn’t open the windows.

"Overall cleanliness not good!"
Dirty toilet, dirty oven,dirty bathroom , dirty stained bathmat. Issues with the drains, and plenty of flies. The owner did attempt to rectify the issues. But all the issues spoiled our holiday and we left halfway through. Very disappointing. On a positive note, the complex is very nice and plenty of amenities . The bed was very comfortable and if the apartment was clean it would have been ok. We just couldn’t cope with the flies.Maybe caused by drains?

"Could be better."
Nice enough place but let down by maintenance and other issues. Several lights not working, no bin bags or toilet paper, TV not working properly. Little things that mean a lot and spoil the overall experience. Other reviews have mentioned the blinds issue affecting privacy but not resolved though wouldn’t be difficult. Position of bath taps make getting in and out dangerous. The Bay:services, facilities, surroundings, maintenance, staff and proximity to lovely beach were all good.

I’m incredibly sorry that I was unable to address the issues whilst you were staying at the apartment, had I been notified I would of rectified immediately. Please can I reassure you in preparation for your next stay that the emergency contact number provided is operational 24/7. I have liased with my cleaning contractors, they have verified that a bin liner and toliet roll was left in situ prior to your arrival. I left a supply of spare lightbulbs in the apartment for replacement purposes. I can only apologise for these having gone missing. The Bay maintenance team have immediately replaced the bulb in the light fitting in the living room. The other six lights in the living room and kitchen are still operational. In respect of the roller blinds in the living room. I can confirm that these have now been replaced with velux blinds as requested. Apologies i have has to wait for a local supplier to install and I've had to work around current guest bookings. In respect of the bath taps these are a common feature in all properties at the Bay. I will however seek to take on your feedback when I replace my bathroom in hopefully Jan/Feb 2023 again dependant on supplier availability. The successful renovation of my kitchen in Spring 2022 has been well received. My guest feedback hopefully highlights that I act upon valued customer feedback and demostrates that I strive to deliver excellent standards at both our holiday properties. In Respect of the TV signal issues I have reported these to the Bay and they have confirmed that the TV is in full operational order. The signal may have been affected by bad weather but without the details of the dates/ times I am unable to provide clarity around this. For future reference the Bay do have 24/7 security and Maintenance to address. Their contact number is 07792653191. Please can I take this opportunity to thank you for your custom and rebooking with us over the Xmas break. Your Xmas hamper will be ready and waiting for your arrival ! In line with other users, I would agree that the apartment wasn’t the easiest to find but that was part of the adventure! The apartment was clean, cosy and very well equipped. Also, despite having a window on two separate roads, it was a relatively quiet stay. There was very occasional noise from dogs within the block, but, to be fair, ours joined in too! All in all a great place to stay and we would go again! Highly recommended!

"Fabulous stay everything nice and clean loads of facilities, only one moan, the boiler, it would make dreadful noise once or twice during the night which at first made us get up to see where the noise came from, it was like a dish washer had been put on, we got used to it but it was very loud and may put others off, but we would come again if we were that way as the whole area was lovely."

"It is a lovely flat."
There are a few things for the owner to consider. They are minor! The fridge needs replacing as it’s shelving isn’t adequate and the ice box was completely full of ice. The lock on the flat door and the door handle were very slack and it worried me how secure it was! We enjoyed our stay and it was the perfect base. Thank you to the owners.

"Just got back home from a week in this lovely apartment."
Perfectly sized for the 2 of us and our 2 dogs. Everything we needed for a holiday stay was provided and even the sun shone for most of the week which helps of course. Clifftop walks and a beautiful beach on site meant we didnt always have to drive to find somewhere to while away the time. Evening walks were fun as the dogs encountered the bunnies which came out as the sun set. Also recommended, especially for dog owners, Filey Brig Country Park, and Scarborough North Bay. Parking around most of the area was so easy using the PayGo app. Except for Scarborough South Bay parking meters which all seemed to have no internet connection. This made it impossible to use the app or even to pay by card. While that did leave lots of parking spaces empty, just make sure you have some of that old metal currency for those. Regarding "facilities" at The Bay, this was outside the control of the owner or the rental agency and it was the one thing that really let the whole site down. The Bay kitchen was closed and had been for some time but still appears on "The Bay" website as open. This meant the only onsite catering facility is the John Paul Jones pub. And that is in a league of its own as far as poor catering is concerned. You cannot blame the front of house staff who are all, without exception most professional. The problem here is one of lax and disinterested management which goes back from the local manager right up to the resort owners. First time we ate here I was served a miserly piece of chicken which was poorly cooked, to the point it was dry, tasteless and almost impossible to cut. It was as if it had a protective skin on it. That was served on a bed of tinned tomato along with a grey, bland, sauteed small potato. Absolutely no point in saying anything to the manager if in fact one was on duty, nor the cook. Neither of who check the quality of food leaving their kitchen. This was not a one off as I saw other guests also sawing away at their meal. The final straw came when we decided to return for their advertised Sunday roast. Only to be told, we dont do that any more and haven't for about 6 months. So why is it still advertised on the parent company website? It is in fact one huge stain on an otherwise lovely holiday site and accomodation.

I apologise for the website not been up todate and for the experience/s you have encountered at the John Paul Jones public house. I have been informed that the Bayside kitchen will be replaced by a new pizzeria opening on the 1st of July 2022. With regards to your comments about the John Paul Jones, I have passed the comments on to the Food & Beverage manager who I can assure you does indeed care a great deal. His response is as follows: Food is very subjective so I can again only apologies if your guests feel the meal was unacceptable, we will never want anyone to leave unhappy and would encourage all guest to give feedback on the night which gives the team an opportunity to rectify and issues. We have been getting lots of positive comments regarding the new menu in the John Paul Jones, but we do feedback all comments to support office to help shape and change things going forward. I have checked our web site and cannot find any mention of the Bay Kitchen or the Sunday lunch, but feel it may have been on the cross over from Aria Resorts web site to Away resorts web site, like all menus and facility there are subject to change, I am please to say The Four Cats drinks and Eatery will be opening on the 1st July 2022 I am sorry if your guests have felt let down as all guest and owners our important to us. "The apartment was extremely clean."
No problems on that score. Beds were very clean and comfortable. TV and internet access was spot on. However the kitchen could have been laid out better. Firstly the amount of crockery was more than needed. Considering the apartment was for two people, there is enough plates and dishes for a party of 12! Consequently there was no room in the cupboards to put your own foodstuffs in. So it had all to sit on the worktops! The double toaster was faulty only the right hand pair of slots worked. The oven has its heat element hanging down. Instructions for the washing machine didn't seem to be for the correct one. And the sink doesn't have a proper drainer to put washed dishes on to drain. All in all the apartment is very nice and can be a lot better if the above issues were remedied.

I only wish that the issues you have raised were brought to our attention whilst you were staying at White rose apartment, as we would have been able to address. Please find enclosed an update re the points that you have raised: 1. Excess Crockery and no Drainer. Following consultation with our repeat guests they have asked for a Dishwasher to be fitted, as they didn't want to be doing the dishes whilst on holiday. We obliged and provided a dishwasher and ample crockery so guests were not having to load frequently. The drainer is located under the sink, for those guests who do want to wash their own pots. In compliance with our COVID risk assessment and strict cleaning protocols we would advise all guests to use the dishwasher where possible. 2. The maintenance team have checked the toaster and the oven and both are in full working order, please note that the toaster needs to be switched on at the socket. 3. The apartment is listed as accommodating 2 persons, however we have a number of guests who will bring an additional person/child, we therefore have a pull out sofa in the lounge that converts into a double bed. We do not charge for this extra facility and our guests have found this useful and great value for money. 4. There are two spare cupboards for foodstuffs, however following your feedback we have ordered a new Kitchen , and arranged for additional storage space, this hopefully will be fitted in Jan 2022. 5. I apologise for the washer/dryer instructions been removed from the property this was due to COVID protocols. The HOTPOINT machine does have simple instructions/pictures on the machine itself and these are also accessible via the Internet, which could have been accessed through the Apartment's complimentary WIFI. Once again thank you for you feedback it is valued and appreciated. We look forwards to welcoming you back to either White Rose Apartment or White Rose Cottage in the near future. "Unfortunately, when we arrived the key box was jammed and we were unable to gain access to the flat."
We contacted the Bay office and a very helpful young lady come back came back with us but she was unable to open the key box. We did gain access to the flat when a maintenance man managed to unlock the box with a screwdriver. Unfortunately, it was pouring with rain at the time, which didn't help. We decided to come home a day early in the evening but had the same problem with the key box. Unfortunately, the Bay staff had finished for the day!

"We were cold in the property and the heating was set on a timer which came on late evening and not till 8."
30 am on the morning. There were no instructions in the property on how to put the heating on manual so on an evening we were very cold. The bath contained a piece of cushion floor plus a plastic plant when we arrived. I moved the cushion floor into the wardrobe in the bedroom but it should not have been left like that.

Just one point. It was a one bedroom flat for 2 people yet there was a dishwasher. How much washing up could there be? Far better to have used the space as a cupboard to keep groceries in as there was nowhere to put any shopping.

We were there over Christmas and there were decorations and a lovely welcome hamper which were unexpected but very much appreciated. The Bay is very dog friendly, with walks along the beach or on the flower meadow (just meadow at this time of year). The pub and cafe serve good food in house or takeaway. Thoroughly enjoyable break.

The apartment was very nice with everything required for a relaxing stay. We used the onsite Pub to eat it was very good super food and staff. The walk to the beach was pleasant well maintained the beach superb. That whole site is well maintained and the facilities offer to the residents faultless. Across the road from the apartment was the pub that served food all day,and seating out side. Dogs are allowed in the pub. Being of poor health going up and down to the beach was very hard, but while there it was great.

Loved being able to gain such easy access to the beach and from there we could walk into Filey with our dogs. Some of the apartments have french windows to access a patio area which we were slightly envious of as the weather was amazing. There are plenty of benches in the grounds and outside the pub though. The Bay development is well planned and we'd definitely like to visit again.

About the location

Filey is a traditional English seaside resort with a friendly atmosphere, offering a restful holiday, making an ideal place to stay for walkers and wildlife watchers at any time of the year. A real gem on the Yorkshire coast. A fishing town on the North East Coast, Filey has enjoyed a reputation of being a resort since Victorian times, set beside the magnificent Filey Bay, a long stretch of beautiful sand, with Filey Brigg and its shallow rockpools to the north. Filey Brigg is a low headland that protects Filey Bay and provides good bird watching and seawatching opportunities all year round. The 400 ft high Bempton Cliffs (RSPB Reserve) to the south of Filey Bay are home to over 250,000 seabirds in the summer. Gannets, kittiwakes, puffins, guillimots and razorbills all nest there. Gannets are regularly seen diving for fish in Filey Bay. The Brigg area is an ideal place to watch for common and rarer waders, seabirds and migrating warblers,finches and thrushes. As well as seabirds, seals and other marine life, such as porpoises dolphins and minke whales can be seen in the sea around the Brigg. The town itself seems almost caught in a time warp, retaining much of its character with individual shops, narrow paths and ginnels. There is a small coble landing, a slipway where local fishermen keep their boats, plus delightful beach chalets that can be hired through the summer months. The bay is edged with two promenades and there are various gardens, where brass bands play on a Sunday afternoon. This small town is family orientated, crazy golf and candy floss. Also in Filey there is the Filey Dams Nature Reserve, a wetland reserve where common and rare waders and wildfowl can be seen as well as autumn gatherings of swallows, sand martins and house martins. Also there is Parish Wood (just off Sycamore Avenue) an unexpected gem that offers a wealth of wildlife. Willow warbler, chiffchaff, blackcap and tree sparrows breed there and a wide variety of other species are regularly seen such as great spotted woodpeckers and sparrow hawks. Parish Wood also provides shelter and food for a wide range of migrant bird species such as goldcrests, pied and spotted flycatchers, warblers, finches, thrushes and woodcocks. A short drive brings you to the busier town of Scarborough where for family fun you can visit the Alpamare Waterpark, a waterpark unlike anything the UK has ever seen before, as well as plenty to explore and discover in this lovely area.
