I would highly recommend this cottage. Only a short drive from York and although a good drive to the coast the drive is worth it. The owner lives next door and about most of the time if you need anything. He’ll provide you with logs, kindling etc if you need it at a small price. We couldn’t fault this homely cottage.

The property

A beautifully renovated, white-washed, semi-detached cottage overlooking the charming village church in pretty Flaxton near York.

Well placed for exploring the wonderful City of York and the North York Moors National Park, this lovely property provides a very comfortable holiday home.

The cosy sitting room has parquet flooring and a warming woodburning stove, set in a feature brick fireplace, with views over the wide grass verges to the church.

There is an attractive, modern kitchen and up the steep cottage stairs, a contemporary bathroom and two stylish bedrooms with quality linen and comfortable mattresses.

Decorated and furnished with care and attention to detail, the cottage has a homely and friendly feel.

A couple of minutes’ walk brings you to the popular local inn, which serves good beers and fine food, whilst nearby Strensall and Stamford Bridge offer a variety of independent retailers.

The surrounding countryside is excellent for cyclists and walkers, along quiet country lanes and public footpaths, whilst the historic market towns of Helmsley and Malton are a short distance.

The majestic stately home of Castle Howard is just six miles away and well worth visiting, with its beautiful grounds, garden centre, farm shop and delicatessen.

Why not enjoy coffee and cake in the bustling tea room after a leisurely lakeside walk?

You must save time to visit York, with its famous minster, walled streets and National Railway Museum.

With the East Coast seaside resorts an easy drive, this beautiful area has something for everyone.

About the location

York 8 miles.

The rural linear village of Flaxton lies 8 miles to the north east of the historic city of York. Traditional village houses line the main street with wide grass verges, and an old country inn is the focal point of the community. Surrounded by open countryside, Flaxton is close to the Howardian Hills and their Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Flaxton is 6 miles from Castle Howard, made famous by the filming of Brideshead Revisited, and has stunning grounds, garden centre and up-market tea room and farm shop. Take the Park and Ride into York to explore The Jorvik Viking Centre, National Railway Museum, York Minster or walk the walls and ancient cobbled streets. York offers two good theatres, cinemas and excellent restaurants and shops. The east coast resorts of Scarborough and Whitby are within easy reach of Flaxton - as are the stunning North York Moors.
