  • "This is our second visit to Church Barns."

The cottage is immaculate with a few select pieces of interesting antique curios to make it homely. The kitchen has plenty of equipment for those that like to cook. As two friends on holiday we love that we each have an equal size bedroom with plenty of space. There is a lovely private garden and the driveway had plenty of room for two cars. The cottage is set in a lovely village overlooking the village pond and is located close to a number of popular tourist sites. We walked down to the local pub The Manor for a meal and were made very welcome. The meal was delicious. The correspondence from the cottage owner is really helpful and Sharon is just on the end of a phone if we had needed her. The milk and biscuits were also most welcome. We would certainly use this cottage again in the future.

The cottage was fantastic and had everything we required for a relaxing break. 30 mins from York and the same from the coast it allowed us to vary our days out and relax in the evenings watching a movie. Garden was lovely and also secure and the EV charger was very handy.

  • "Nice accommodation but not so easy to access as front door can only be used if there is someone inside."

The rear access is fine and where the parking is but the kitchen dining area has no natural ventilation other than opening the bi-fold door. Not sure why it was important to keep light on for the outside. To save electricity and to reduce night light we switched them off. For us the big positive was that as a wheelchair user it was excellent once we altered a bit of furniture positioning. The large settees did restrict space. Finally, we had to provide our own bedside radio, and the streaming TV - modern and no doubt in vogue was quite annoying at having to first access the guide to find the station required. Isn’t modern tech meant to be easier to use?

Thankyou for your feedback. Had we been advised you required wheelchair access we would have happily left a front door key for you. Most visitors prefer to use the private rear drive and back door. We leave outside lights on only for the convenience of our guests who may be arriving home late, they are on a dark sensor and timer (another in vogue gadget). We do provide an Alexa that can be moved to the bedroom if you require a radio/ alarm . We have one large comfortable amazing sofa for guests to use along with 2 comfortable armchairs ( again had you asked I would have removed one of these to give you more space). Our tv is a smart tv as this is what 99% of guests now expect and prefer . I hope our modern comfortable accommodations did not spoil your holiday and wish you good luck finding something more dated in the future. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay at the Church Barn."

We visited Burnby Hall Garden, Castle Howard, The Robert Fuller Gallery and Pocklington. The location is easy to get to and is in a lovely setting overlooking the village pond and the church. Facilities in the barn were ideal for two friends meeting up as we each had a very spacious double bedroom. We were lucky enough to be able to sit out each even in the garden area which is fully secure. We each reversed into the drive and managed to fit a mini and a Yaris behind the gate. I would highly recommend this cottage which is very comfortable and well equipped for a very relaxing stay.

Comfortable beds, lovely sitting room to relax in, everything we needed as regards kitchen equipment/utensils. Having milk in the fridge and biscuits for when we arrived was a nice touch. The ducks from the pond came to visit us in the garden each day!! We will definitely book again.

  • "The owners have beautifully decorated this barn conversion , furniture is quality and classy, the living room is much larger than the pictures look, lots of nice little touches, , like washing up liquid, handsoap salt, pepper etc."

.. The log supply was great ,the burner kicks out a lot of heat so didn't need to be on for long periods The handbook we received by email from Sharon before was great ! So useful We also were appreciative of the biscuits and milk on arrival, We sleep in King size and super king at home so for us the double beds were fairly small, and we also missed radiators , and not being able to control our own heating as sometimes too hot or too cold, and you don't want to bother the owners constantly , we have never ever stayed in a cottage where we can't adjust heating ourselves . The village is quiet , peaceful and not a lot around but short approx half hour drives to York, the outlets, malton, and about 15 minutes to Driffield which was great . Lovely garden which would be great in the summer.

Thankyou for your feedback. Sorry to hear the temperature was not always correct for you at this time of the year temperatures can vary so much it is hard to suit all requirements. The barn is underfloor heating which is set to a constant temperature. The living room and the kitchen can be adjusted by thermostat as you require (using the instruction card in the kitchen) however due to the nature of underfloor heating it is a slow process to change temperature as not so instant as radiators. We do also provide the log burner should guests require further heat. We are looking to replace one of the double beds with a King size bed as by moving furniture around think we can fit one in sorry you didnt realise we only had doubles but it does mention this in the listing. Pleased you enjoyed our little touches. Property Owner

We felt totally at home from the moment we arrived, and the owner, Sharon, could not have been more helpful and friendly, always on hand to answer any questions and a font of knowledge about the local area. We kept our bikes in the garden shed and one of my favourite things was to sit just outside the patio doors with a mug of coffee, in the morning, before we set off for the day, enjoying a bit of early Spring sunshine. The area is so tranquil and peaceful, proper rural Yorkshire. And Fridaythorpe is a delightful village with a church, a pub and a duck pond. What more could you want!

  • "This is a fantastic cottage, which looks exactly like the photos (not always the case) and we had a truly wonderful stay here."

It’s beautifully renovated, well-furnished and equipped and extremely comfortable – our week included the sudden, drastic fall in temperature to -5C and snowfall but we remained warm, owing to the underfloor heating and very effective wood burner. The owners have thought of everything – for example, the kitchen is better equipped than any we’ve encountered in the many cottages we’ve rented for holidays - and little touches include a lovely welcome pack, generously supplied toiletries in the bathroom and very tasteful décor and soft furnishings. The cottage is detached, all on one level and spacious, standing in its own grounds and with access to excellent walks on the Wolds Way. It’s very dog friendly indeed and our dog Claudia realised very quickly that she was warmer if she lay on the floor rather than on her bed, because of the underfloor heating. It’s a small but very pleasant village, where amenities include a pub that does food and a petrol station that also serves as the village shop – this is surprisingly good and cater for your needs extremely well. The owner made contact before, during and after our visit to ensure we knew all that was necessary, that we were enjoying our holiday without problems and to ask for feedback which might help them improve the cottage further (this was hard to do – the place is, in our opinion, faultless). We most definitely want to return!

  • "Lovely cottage which was very clean and comfortable."

The garden was fully enclosed, so good for dogs unless you have a very small one which might be able to squeeze between the gate and the gatepost. Location was good - close to the village green with the duckpond, and some nice walks right on our doorstep. We found the fridge a bit on the small side even for just the 2 of us - with just a small freezer compartment, so don't take lots of food with you - eat out instead! We ate at the Wellington Inn, The Wolds Inn and the Old Star Inn, all of which were good. The cottage could have done with a few more coathangers or drawers in the main bedroom, and also for a person of my height (5'0") the bathroom mirror was too high and I could only see the top of my head! Other than that, we had everything we needed. The cottage maintained a good even temperature and we didn't have to change any settings or light the fire. Would definitely recommend this cottage.

Thankyou for your feedback and so sorry you were unable to see in the bathroom mirror. We do provide moveable vanity mirrors in the bedrooms, I will add one of these to the bathroom too. There are 6 drawers in the main bedroom along with the large wardrobe so I am surprised there was not enough storage space for a 4 night stay but i will look to add more hangers we try to leave 12-15 in each wardrobe but Im sure a few more wont harm. Thankyou for your feedback, we send all guests an email with check in details but for security reasons we dont send until just prior to your stay as we dont want to share codes etc too early in case guests have to cancel their stay. • "The property was lovely, very comfortable and well equipped."

A welcome basket with milk, bread and jam awaited us with a supply of coffee sachets and teabags also available. However, the milk had reached its use by date and was slightly off , the bread had also been left a bit too long. Perhaps the property had been cleaned a few days before we arrived. It was a kind gesture however. We were unsuccessful in our attempts to keep the log burner working , probably due to poor quality logs bought at a petrol station, and as the weather was atrocious during our week there, it was missed. The living room just needed an extra touch of heat in the evening. The bed was comfortable and well presented. Perhaps more hangers would be useful. The bathroom is beautiful and the owner provided everything you could possibly need to use in porcelain containers. One item missing, possibly due to Covid issues, was a bath/ shower mat. I felt the surface of the bath was slippery and with no grab rail, a bit unsafe for someone, like me, who has stability issues. We bought a mat to use. However we do recognise that that might be due to Covid issues . The little enclosed garden would have been lovely in better weather and was well enclosed and safe for our dog. The village is lovely and the area is nice, central to lots of other areas of interest. We had to cut short our stay due to illness, but would ordinarily have wanted to stay longer. The cottage has been put together very thoughtfully by the owner, for which, many thanks.

Thank you for your feedback I am really sorry to hear about your bread and milk, these were both purchased from a local farm shop on the morning of your stay we will in future take more notice of the dates shown on their products when purchasing complimentary items for guests. We will add more hangers to the wardrobes as you mention I'm sure these will be useful and I'm sorry to hear you were unable to keep the log burner alight, I will check the air vent at the bottom was not closed as it usually lights no problem with the logs and firelighters we leave in the shed, had you called I would happily have talked you through the thermostat or popped up to the property if you were unable to follow the instruction card left in the kitchen which would have increased the underfloor heating temperature. Due to covid we did remove rubber bath mats, we do provide a material bath mat for the floor as these can be laundered between guests but the rubber bath versions unfortunately are not covid compliant.
