  • "This is an ideal location for a family holiday."

Four of us and our big dog stayed and my sister, her family and their dog had Forge cottage across the way. There was plenty of room for us all to eat together and hang out in the evenings (ours was a bit bigger with some garden space although theirs had the sea view). It was nice for my teens to have separate bedrooms and their own bathroom. A lot of places for 6 are really for 4 with 2 extras crammed in but this is properly spacious. The cottage was well equipped with everything you could need and it was all very clean. I can confirm the new mattresses are very comfortable. The owners are friendly and helpful but not intrusive (Our shower curtain fell down and Alan fixed it right away). The views from the cottage are amazing and there are lovely walks from the door. It’s an easy 30-40 mins downhill walk on the Cinder path to Robin Hoods Bay which is absolutely charming and you can walk along the beach (if the tide is out) or along the cliffs to Boggle Hole. The only real downside is that the track up to the farm is steep, unsurfaced and very bumpy. We would not have wanted to attempt it in winter or after dark but that didn’t limit us much on a summer family holiday.

hi Good news We have laid 30 tonnes of stone on the track up to the farm to make it less bumpy( laid last week, glad you all enjoyed your stay Property Owner

  • "On arrival was informed heating was turned off but told it got colld at night ?"

?. we could however acess 15mins of heat from the electric fire by presing a button. On going to bed the sheets and duvet felt damp and cold and the mattress was cheap lumpy and well past its sell by date. all the other beds where the same. Dog Friendly poroperty ??. Once we found the information book we read the entry on dogs. No pet is to left alone in the property for any time and we would be asked to leave on return without a refund if we did. This is rediculous how can you take the dog everywhere with you. Free on site kennels didnt exist full of bins and rubbish. front and back doors patched up with fence panels and not painted. single armschair base had collapsed. shower curtain fell in the bath at first use [cheap extending thing. toilet loose on floor. Sky channels dont exist its freeview only which has a poor signal and breaks up all the time. The remote dosnt work on all the essential buttons so had to keep getting up and manually do it. Whole place just looks run down and skimping on the heat gives the place a musty smell. This cottage has no views of open countryside like the others a fact missing from the description in fact the windows look onto brick walls and are so small you have to have lights on in the daytime. Front Garden has no fence at one end so dog cant be let out without supervision. At just short of £500 for 3 nights expected better check out 9am amd check in 4pm is a bit strong too. British holiday in live all the beaches seem shut to dogs £45 in parking for 3 days. going abroad next year after 40 years of holidaying in the UK enoughs enough. I have pics to back up all i have said in this review. Although i,m sure it will be removed

The people before had turned the heating off, as that cottage is on night storage heaters nothing we could do, but it was only the 3rd of September so shouldn't have needed full heating on, as far as fire goes it had three lights 15mins-30mins-1 hour you obviously missed that. Sheets where changed the day you came. We feel issues were raised once you found you could not leave your dog unattended. Not leaving dogs unattended is standard practice (we have had furniture damage) and is mentioned in Sykes terms & conditions, don't know why you mention the kennels, there was no way you would have used them as you say your dog would never go in a cage. doors have been repaired with t & g boarding ( hardly fence panel's ) they have been treated and so treatment doesn't leech through the paint, left to dry out before painting. you were right about the Sky remote the people in after you mentioned it, I replaced it that day (why wait till you get home to complain). Beach at Robin Hoods Bay allow dogs, should have asked us. Strange the people in the week before you gave us 100/100 so we must be doing something right, even if not for you. We do our best and keep cottages clean and maintained but if people don't tell us of faults, we can't correct them. Property Owner

  • "On entering the cottage it had a smell of damp."

It had adequate facilities. We had one major problem with a loose towel rail at the side of the bath which resulted in a bad accident, when one of our party was getting out from a shower the rail gave way and she fell into the wall needing to be taken to hospital resulting in serious bruising. It was rated a 4star in 2006, personally think its gone down since then.Concerns where raised with sykes ,pictures of injuries and bruising, and was told it was a health and safety issue and said it was an owner matter . SYKES have informed us the owners refused compensation and thus will have to be taken to small claims court.Thought I would post this feedback as to make people aware.

Thank you for your feedback and I am very sorry that one of your party suffered an accident during her stay. The owner is aware but has explained that the towel rail should not have been used as a grab rail as this is not its purpose. They do not agree that there is any damp and this has not been reported as an issue prior to or since your stay. The owners strive to maintain high standards and cleanliness which is often reflected in comments left for them. Please note that this is also a 3 tick property and not 4 star as suggested. We hope your friend makes a speedy recovery and hope you were able to enjoy your stay otherwise. Property Owner
