  • "We really enjoyed our week's holiday at Orchard Cottage."

Lynn and John keep the cottage immaculate and would recommend anyone that wants a peaceful holiday to stay at the cottage. The view is lovely - seeing the sheep and lambs every morning and the steam train going by at the bottom of the garden. Our rescue dog enjoyed it as well and we were amazed that he coped with the spiral staircase!

We could not wish for a better place to stay to experience the relaxing sights and sounds of the North York Moors. The sign of a great week away is not wanting to come home. 5 out of 5 in everyway. Thankyou for everything.

  • "The WiFi router software is out of date and brings up warnings on the laptop."

It dropped out frequently on the laptop making it unusable. We had work to cover which was less than ideal. This needs addressing. Also the description prior to booking never mentioned there is poor mobile phone coverage and I think that’s unhelpful (at best) . These were the 2 negative findings we had. Otherwise the cottage was comfortable and in a lovely setting.

  • "Lovely cottage and location."

Great to see the steam trains. Very well laid out and lots of space outside. Additions suggested would be a bath mat and washing machine. Internet for streaming TV was slow/stopped at times. Maybe a blu ray player (there is a dvd player)

  • "Orchard cottage was very comfortable and has a lovely upside down layout."

just to the South of Goathland. It is a great location, very quiet and peaceful. You can walk easily into Goathland along the disused railway. Very good location for exploring Moors, Whitby and the coast. The cottage is next to the preserved north yorkshire moors railway great if some of the group love watching steam trains.

My wife, my two kids and my dog thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the cottage, which is in a great location for exploring the moors, Whitby and the nearby beaches. We thoroughly enjoyed a well needed change of scenery and would highly recommend this as a great place to stay and relax.

  • "We had a lovely holiday, the enclosed garden was perfect for our dog with numerous walks straight from the cottage."

The weather was marvellous, a real bonus as this was our first holiday since the start of the pandemic. The spiral staircase was initially a problem for our big old dog, but she did eventually get used to it. If you have a dog and like walking, then this is a perfect cottage in a lovely location, with the bonus of steam trains passing at the bottom of the garden.

  • "This is a well appointed and interesting cottage constructed from a barn."

The quirky upside down layout gives a feeling of spaceousness, the heating system works well and the setting beside the heritage railway among sheep filled fields is very relaxing. Only small downside is a lack of a dishwasher especially during Covid restrictions which prevent eating out in the locality.

Even though it's been two years since we last visited, the cottage looks exactly the same. It's exceptionally maintained and the hosts are warm, friendly and helpful. We already have two future bookings and I can't recommend this accommodation enough, we can't wait to return!

  • "Superb hosts, fantastic location, beautiful cozy property whatever the weather, it really is a fantastic place to stay."

The surroundings can't be faulted and with the majority of the track/path between Goathland itself and the property now gravelled, even for those who aren't keen walkers, it's a very accessible route into the village on foot. Certainly a 'stay again' property, fantastic.

  • "Wonderful and quite unique conversion of an old barn."

It’s quite an achievement to provide the this combination of style and comfort in a building of this age. Lacks the odd modern comfort like dishwasher but it’s a minor factor all in all because there are so many opportunities to eat out nearby. Location is exceptional for walkers, steam train enthusiasts or even Heatbeat fans. So much to see and do and only 10 miles to the coast. A thoroughly enjoyable week.

Sadler House Farm Cottages

These two superb stone barn conversions are peacefully nestled in the beautiful countryside of the North York Moors, 1.5 miles from the charming village of Goathland. Featuring in The Runaways film, these two extraordinary cottages offer a wonderful history and a warm and welcoming holiday base at any time of year. Sympathetically converted, these characterful Goathland cottages are ideal for families and friends to get together and explore the idyllic scenery on the doorstep, and are just a few minutes’ drive of the historic port of Whitby. Both cottages offer spacious living areas, with high pitched ceilings, exposed timbers and stonework. Finished to a high standard, these Goathland cottages boast central heating (underfloor downstairs in The Long Barn), with The Long Barn also providing two cosy woodburners. Several acres of communal grounds surround these delightful properties, with gated access over a stream and stunning views overlooking the steam railway, sheep pasture and moorland. A walker's haven, there are numerous public footpaths and trails to follow, whilst a lovely walk brings you into Goathland, otherwise known as Aidensfield from Heartbeat! Here, there are traditional tea rooms, several local inns serving food and the local village shop. Enjoy a walk down to the Mallyan Spout waterfall or follow the rail trail to Grosmont, from where one can return by steam train. An outing on the steam train from Goathland is a trip back in time as it winds its way through the moors to the delightful market town of Pickering or Whitby. Whitby offers many attractions, with its famous abbey, long, sandy beaches and narrow, cobbled streets. Guests are spoilt for choice with the numerous restaurants, coffee shops, independent shops and museums in this quaint town, as well as its charming harbour and renowned fish and chips. Two well-placed barns for a wonderful holiday all year round.
