  • "Lovely property situated in a quiet lane in Goathland."

A 10 minute walk into the main Goathland shops and then a short walk to the Railway. We had a lovely train ride to Whitby and back. Lots of places to drive to around the Moors and based in Goathland was ideal. We’d really recommend a stay at Stonecroft, first class property for a relaxing holiday.

  • "We had a lovely week at Stonecroft."

The cottage was lovely and clean, well laid out and had nearly everything we needed. The only thing missing was a washing machine but I appreciate that there’s not really anywhere to put one in the cottage unless it went into an out building such as the garage. Don’t get me wrong - I’m not normally someone who does a wash on holiday but having a 3yr old who loves a muddy puddle whilst staying in a countryside location in February made me notice that one was missing. Nevertheless we had a lovely stay, there’s lots to see and do nearby. The cottage is a great location and it’s easy to walk into the village. It is ideal for a family with young children but would have to agree with other comments that the twin beds aren’t full size in width. The shower in the master bedroom lacks in pressure - not an issue as such because we just used the other one but something to consider for anyone who needs a walk in shower. Also the bath splutters when you flush the toilet in the twin room so the drains my need checking (I wouldn’t normally put stuff like that in feedback but there was no way of contacting the owner to tell them). All in all would we stay here again - yes we would. Thanks for a lovely week!

  • "Warm clean and comfortable."

overall a great place to stay. Only two minor things, the trees and plants on the drive could do with a trim to make it easier to get out of the car and if the sensor light on the garage was switched on you wouldn't have to leave outside lights on if you go out in the evening.

  • "A beautiful, well appointed cottage tucked away in gorgeous Goathland."

The cottage had everything we could have needed, and the beds were really comfortable. My two boys loved it too. The only very small criticisms are that the twin beds are not full width, not a problem for us as our children are small but for adults I think they'd struggle and the plants next to the driveway could do with a trim as it made it quite difficult getting in and out of my car, the children and my husband had to get out on the road and I squeezed past the plants. Very small issue though from what was an amazing stay.

The only thing is the owners always come to check that we have everything. This time it didn’t happen so if anything went wrong we didn’t know how to contact the owner. We would have had to contact you. Not a complaint, but it would have been nice.

  • "Could not cope with the single beds."

had to revert to using the double. we choose properties with a twin bed option because we both prefer different tog weights of duvets. The single beds were so narrow and the shape of the mattresses were such that you would be tipped out of the bed if you moved. Even if you stayed as far from the edge of the bed as possible you would then catch your back on the ice cold bedroom wall. after a couple of nights lack of proper sleep we left the property for home. It is mentioned in passing the single beds are narrow in the owners notes... but really this should be highlighted these beds are only suitable for children or very small adults.. Anyone over a dress size 10 would struggle.

Great location, so peaceful. Goathland is a lovely village, has a nice tea room with a large garden for outside eating. Goathland steam railway station is nearby. Ideal base for walking or visiting the coast - Robin Hood's Bay, Whitby, Sandsend are all only around 20 minutes drive. Would definitely go back.

The bath could do with grab handles to help getting out as I had arm strength issues. Also a bath mat as it was very slippery. The other request would be to put the road name on the address as it took a while to locate the Cottage Bungalow. All in all a very good stay and a wonderful Cottage. Best of luck to every one and would recommend it.

  • "A truly ‘getting away from it all’ holiday."

Peaceful and quiet but not quite isolated, this cottage is comfortable and spacious, but decorated and furnished to a very high standard. We had briefly visited Goathland many years ago but had forgotten quite how unique it is, sitting in isolation in its moorland. But each morning the car park fills with vehicles bringing walkers who melt away into the hills for the day. Sadly the train wasn”t running because of Covid, but it will be back again very soon now - as shall we!

  • "So we don't argue over the duvet, my husband and I always book properties that offer twin beds."

It did state in the details given these two beds were narrower than standard singles. And YES THEY CERTAINLY ARE. They are very comfortable, good quality beds. But one does have to take into consideration the very real possibility of these narrow beds, that have a ticket on them to say they are made from silk , do have the tendency of making you feel you will slip out of bed, which my husband did ( in a controlled way with no damage done). There is no room for standard sized single beds to go into that 2nd bedroom as they fit very snuggly on either side of the door with not an inch to spare. Just be careful when trying to turn over in bed. We were very thankful to find good quality pillows had been supplied. We have booked again for next year and I shall be using the double bed, just to make sure I get some sleep. The property is a lovely place and very well appointed

I don't know what other people do while staying at this cottage, but we did quite a bit of walking, and because many of the paths were very muddy we needed to clean our boots and rinse out our gaiters and walking trousers. The boots never got cleaned(!), and after rinsing off the gaiters and trouser bottoms there was nowhere to hang them while they dried. Other than that the cottage was perfect. ps - the muddy boots were never bought inside the cottage

The cottage was perfectly placed for walking and to enjoy a quiet few days out of the hustle & Bustle of our working lives, it was well equipped and clean and comfortable and well positioned for a trip to Whitby, Harrogate and Pickering. (Sykes/homeowner didn’t send postcode of property or any details other than entry code, which I thought odd) so I googled it myself. The owners have taken a lot of time and effort to decorate this property to a high/modern standard, however, (I have NEVER given criticism or negative feedback so feel bad for saying anything) the beds...we didn’t sleep at all the first night, thought it was maybe over tiredness, but this continued the next night, and so on, there was quite a dip in the double bed (which seemed small) my husband even tried the single beds, we are both registered disabled, and were in agony! The sofas aren’t suitable for sleeping on, and sadly we had to come home early as we couldn’t take any more! I’m sorry if I sound grumpy but prefer to be honest. As I said, otherwise lovely, but you do need sleep to function!

. A very nice thought from the owner leaving milk and biscuits thank you. Its about a 10 minute walk to Goathland and a stones throw from the rail trail to Grosmont. The heating was set a little bit warm for us first thing in the morning but we turned it down as soon as we got up, It has the added security and piece of mind of cctv outside which made us feel better about leaving our car when we went walking.I would say the cottage exceeded our expectations which is rare these days .So would give 10 out of 10 Thank you for a nice relaxing holiday and will hope to go back in the future

  • "The cottage would definitely be in our top 10 of Sykes Cottages."

It was in a stunning location, the attention to detail in the fabric and furnishings of the cottage were exceptional and we loved the modern feel. It was spotlessly clean and all appliances were so easy to use. It was a most enjoyable holiday, lots of opportunities for walking both in the North Yorkshire Moors and at the Coast. We took a slow cooker and it was so lovely to come home after a day of walking to a nice meal without the hastle of having to prepare and cook food. For us it was a joy not to have phone signal at the cottage as this aided our rest and relaxation and meant we actually engaged in conversation in the evenings. We loved watching the huge variety of birds fluttering around the patio area with our first cuppa of the day. It is clear that the owners are committed to excellence and we were not disappointed. I work in the hospitality industry and always visit any hotel, self catering cottage with a critical eye. I have to say I was thrilled with such a top notch cottage. We would definitely re-visit and thank you for the extra nice touch of locally made biscuits on arrival.
