  • "Very cosy cottage, the owners were very helpful before we even got there, and once we arrived they said hello and left us to it."

The owners knew my 7 year old wanted to explore the farm a bit more so they made this possible by letting him help in the barn and feed a young cow with a bottle. Fantastic experience for all of us. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need. Highly recommend. Lots of local walks and fantastic location, 10 mins into the moors or 10 mins to Whitby. Will definitely be going back.

  • "There is a definite problem with the water supply at the property, however, the owners have this in hand."

We will definitely return and had a wonderful, relaxing, week. The location is superb, wildlife in abundance, owners, extremely friendly and unobtrusive. I understand a refurb is in the pipeline, can't wait till 2021 to revisit. 11/10 Ann & John, Hinckley

Thank you for your feedback, we are happy that you had a wonderful stay. The filtration system for the water supply has since been serviced. Property Owner

The property

A fabulous detached property, full of character and history, The Wheelhouse is the result of the imaginative conversion of an old wheelhouse and barn to form a stunning stone-built house near the owner's farmhouse on the edge of the North York Moors National Park.

Great care has been taken to retain original features such as exposed timbers and the huge old beam, which once powered the mill stone creating a unique holiday home for friends and families seeking an escape to Liverton, North Yorkshire.

The skeleton of the wheelhouse now forms part of the sitting room, and is an interesting octagonal shape with windows to three sides to enjoy the views over open farmland to the sea beyond, with the woodburning stove bringing a homely aura to the room.

The well-equipped kitchen with dining area overlooks the stable yard, and offers all the essentials you could need when whipping up a family-favourite treat, with the neutral hues of the room making a lovely spot to spend your evenings with your loved ones over a hearty meal.

There are three spacious and peaceful bedrooms within the property, made up of two double rooms and a ground-floor twin, with the quirky addition of the galleried landing over the sitting room sleeping two additional guests on a futon, providing an extremely flexible sleeping arrangement for up to eight guests.

The property also benefits from a bathroom on the ground floor, as well as a first-floor shower room, offering you plenty of space to prepare for your fun-filled days in Yorkshire.

Spend your mornings with the patio area overlooking the sea, the perfect way to begin each day surrounded by true tranquility, and be sure to explore the owner's orchard in all its glory in the summer months.

The cottage is situated within the traditional farming village of Liverton, home to both a Post Office with shop for any last-minute essentials as well as the The Waterwheel Inn where you can enjoy a refreshing beverage surrounded by its traditional interior after a day of rambling.

The North York Moors National Park offers ample opportunities for walking and cycling amongst truly remarkable scenery, with unique geology and nature, all while being surrounded by one of the largest expanses of heather moorland in the UK!

For a more relaxing day out with your loved ones make your way to Saltburn-on-the-Sea, home to a welcoming Victorian charm with beautiful architecture and a range of historical wonders such as the water-powered Cliff Lift, there's plenty to explore here when you're not unwinding on the golden sands of its beach where you can find one of the UK's biggest surf competitions, UK Professional Surf Tour, as well as its pretty pier, Italian gardens and plethora of restaurants adding to the wonderful amenities of the town.

Spend a day in Middlesbrough for a day of retail therapy, or head to Whitby to be met by even more history and family-friendly attractions at any time of the year.
