  • "So pleased we chose this place for a large family group ( 10 adults, 4 children)."

It’s a period house with lots of interesting features and everyone was happy with it. It’s a little tired in places but maybe that’s in part because it’s near the season end. Beds were comfy for all of us despite what some other reviews have said.

  • "Beautiful place surrounded by a lovely garden."

The only criticism was the flies that seemed to be always gathering in the kitchen. It didn't matter how many died on the hanging fly papers (which were pretty full already when we arrived) or how many we hit with the provided fly swat and spray, they returned. After the first night we kept the outer doors and windows closed but they still came. We closed all inner doors after the first night because my granddaughter woke with them crawling on her. This did contain them to the kitchen, but it meant the kitchen became very warm, especially as the arga was permanently on. Luckily the weather was kind and we were able to eat outside and in the rest of the house. Any food left out in the kitchen was crawling with flies in minutes, even strawberry tops. We never did find the source.

Glad you enjoyed your stay, there is an issue with flies in the whole village at the moment, I have bought an commercial fly killer now so hopefully this will help with the issue Kind regards Property Owner

  • "Hi I would like to know if the owner of Reighton house has seen my feedback from our holiday 5th to 9th August 2024."

Due to the amount of flies in the kitchen on our arrival and during our holiday, it would be acceptable to be given a discount. Also the four poster bed had blood on the sheets and was very uncomfortable, so much so that they ended up sleeping on a sofa. I await your reply Mrs wendy patterson.

Hi Wendy, really sorry, I’m only aware of the problem with the flies, which is not only a problem with the house but the whole area due to where it is located near farm land & the weather Regards Karen Property Owner

  • "Lovely big property as stated online with great enclosed walled garden with lots of space."

Booked for family birthday & the games room was one of the reasons we booked this property. Got used daily but would suggest replacing the darts or getting some new flights for them because most of them have split & don’t work. Bedrooms were spacious but we found mattresses uncomfortable- maybe some are ready to be replaced & in general bits of the property are looking tired. No welcome pack or personal touches on arrival which is a disappointment for the price & not much information on the property available.

  • "The property is lovely and has lots of space for a 2 generation family holiday."

The bedding and towels were clean and comfortable. There is everything you need during your stay facility wise. We were disappointed that there was no welcome pack not even any milk, we have at least 2 Sykes stays a year and this is the first time we haven’t been left the basics. Try as we might we could not find an information pack for the appliances etc and luckily we didn’t need the cellar key which was not on the kitchen window sill as stated. The garden is a great size and has plenty of seating and a bbq. The games room is very well equipped and lots of fun. The property and the garden however do need some TLC but overall a lovely base for a comfortable holiday.

Thank you for your feedback, glad you enjoyed your stay, the welcome pack is in a folder in kitchen drawer & sorry the cellar key was left in the door and not on the window Kind regards Karen Property Owner

  • "Loved, loved, loved, Reighton House."

Unfussily comfortable and well stocked. I do however want to let you know that the shower in the 4 poster bedroom doesn’t drain well. I had to keep turning off the water to wait for it to drain so it didn’t overflow into the bathroom. Also two Coffee presses would work a little better for large groups. Otherwise everything was fabulous- will definitely recommend your place and possibly stay again. :)

  • "We stayed at this property as a group of 10 adults, an 8 month old baby and 3 dogs."

The property itself was perfect, with spacious bedrooms spread across the upper floors alongside modern en-suite and bathroom facilities. The downstairs area was perfect for a large group - there was enough space for us to all sit as a group in the lounge and the games room was a big hit in the evenings. We cooked several meals in the kitchen and used all of the appliances with no issues. The garden is large and well maintained, with ample space for our 3 dogs to run around securely. There is a lovely sheltered seating area which meant that we could still enjoy some fresh air despite the weather not being perfect all week. There is lots of off road parking available. Location-wise, this house was perfect for exploring the east coast - we took trips to Scarborough, Bridlington and Filey. There is a lovely walk along the coast from just up the road, and we also took the dogs for a run down Hunmanby Gap beach which was beautiful. We went slightly further afield too and visited York, Thornton-Le-Dale and Flamingo Land - all within an hours drive. Reighton House was like a home from home for us, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to visit again in the future.

  • ""Diamond in the rough" - Generally the house is lovely."

The house is very generous in space but more so in the bedrooms than the living areas. It's in a great location, handy for Filey beach and close enough to Scarborough to make it a lot cheaper that similar houses accommodating a large party. The garden is a great space, getting loads of sun in the summer months. Probably a better house for adults than parties with kids. Firstly, we'd like to state we would have booked this house for 2022 but it was already booked up. At first site it is a really impressive property, but after staying there a while we realised it needs more spent on it to be the luxury accommodation which it claims. It sleeps 15 but we found it very difficult to self cater with a mixed group of 10 people - 6 adults, 4 kids aged 1 - 6. The kitchen is OK, but didn't have the appliances to cope with our group, never mind one of 15 which it can sleep. It is well stocked with pans, crockery etc, but a lot has seen better days, especially the frying pans - non-stick doesn't last forever. The dishwasher is too small internally/doesn't have moveable shelves. You could not stack the plates normally without them stopping the spray rotors working. Lighting could also be better. There is an AGA which we only used for plate warming, so replace that with units and new ovens, at least 2 full size built in ovens. The existing one is a NEFF double oven, but the seal was coming away on the lower larger oven and it took almost half the time again to cook food. Needs changing. There isn't enough fridge and freezer space for a full house. It has a separate fridge and freezer in the utility, but make them full height as plenty of space to do so. Even getting shops delivered every other day, we struggled with the fridge space. Fridge-freezer in kitchen needs a defrost. They need to look at the mattresses. At least two in the 4 berth bedroom in the roof need replacing and generally they were not the best quality. Tech NEEDS an upgrade. Broadband is terrible!!! Simply doesn't work. We struggled to stream music, never mind a film for the kids when the rain set in. Can't remember when I last saw a TV using a SCART lead ;-) - 20 years ago? The main living room is a great size but would benefit from some more large lamps for the evening. We brought them down from the bedrooms, otherwise, just the harsh main light. Playroom would also benefit from this. We did have an issue with some bedding which was sorted out really quickly, but we also thought the cleaning of the bathrooms needed to be better. The garden is a great space. It would be great if the gates were lockable - particularly the one to the road. In short, I would say this house could be fantastic, but it needs more money spent on it. Perhaps with 15 beds it is overstretching itself. The kitchen in particular would struggle to cope for a party wanting to fully self-cater.

. The house is a.lovely clean and comfy place to enjoy your hols , the garden was good for the kids with the wall keeping them safe, we had meals out side most days , We went to the beach kids loved the sea , also. Cought the bus to the animal and.bird garden which was a great day out , we took a picnic most days , Only down side was the lady next door screaming and shouting at the Tesco delivery driver when he brought our grocery order , he was a bit shaken up with her she sounded scary . Anyway she said he was on her land . Which turned out it’s a right of way , which we pointed out to her a few days later when the dilivery man was due again , I got in touch with Graham and he was so helpful , anyway this lady didn’t spoil our holiday , so if you stay there just ignore her (l think she likes the sound of her own voice ) we will definitely go again in the future ,

The beds were comfy, bedrooms warm and cosy and there were hundreds of toilets! Being an old house it was a bit breezy near the sitting room window and the front door. But we had plenty to keep us warm. The games room was great fun and converted beautifully into a dining room! We had a lovely stay. As we had only booked two nights we had to leave at 10 which was a bit of a rush so ideally we would have preferred a later check out but we understood why it had to be 10. Thank you.

Some of the bed linen needs to be replaced and the shower tray in bedroom 3, where we stayed, was not clean. We had to put all our rubbish in black bin bags and put these in a large wheely bin. This was not difficult but the issue is that I hope the contents of the bags are recycled at some point down the line as there was glass, plastic and paper in the bags. There was a major uncomfortable incident on Saturday morning regarding the adjacent farm next door and I will telephone later to explain what happened.

About the location

FILEY

Scarborough 7.7 miles; Bridlington 10.5 miles.

Filey is a traditional English seaside resort with a friendly atmosphere, offering a restful holiday, making an ideal place to stay for walkers and wildlife watchers at any time of the year. A real gem on the Yorkshire coast. A fishing town on the North East Coast, Filey has enjoyed a reputation of being a resort since Victorian times, set beside the magnificent Filey Bay, a long stretch of beautiful sand, with Filey Brigg and its shallow rockpools to the north. Filey Brigg is a low headland that protects Filey Bay and provides good bird watching and seawatching opportunities all year round. The 400 ft high Bempton Cliffs (RSPB Reserve) to the south of Filey Bay are home to over 250,000 seabirds in the summer. Gannets, kittiwakes, puffins, guillimots and razorbills all nest there. Gannets are regularly seen diving for fish in Filey Bay. The Brigg area is an ideal place to watch for common and rarer waders, seabirds and migrating warblers, finches and thrushes. As well as seabirds, seals and other marine life, such as porpoises dolphins and minke whales can be seen in the sea around the Brigg. The town itself seems almost caught in a time warp, retaining much of its character with individual shops, narrow paths and ginnels. There is a small coble landing, a slipway where local fishermen keep their boats, plus delightful beach chalets that can be hired through the summer months. The bay is edged with two promenades and there are various gardens, where brass bands play on a Sunday afternoon. This small town is family orientated, crazy golf and candy floss. Also in Filey there is the Filey Dams Nature Reserve, a wetland reserve where common and rare waders and wildfowl can be seen as well as autumn gatherings of swallows, sand martins and house martins. Also there is Parish Wood (just off Sycamore Avenue) an unexpected gem that offers a wealth of wildlife. Willow warbler, chiffchaff, blackcap and tree sparrows breed there and a wide variety of other species are regularly seen such as great spotted woodpeckers and sparrow hawks. Parish Wood also provides shelter and food for a wide range of migrant bird species such as goldcrests, pied and spotted flycatchers, warblers, finches, thrushes and woodcocks. A short drive brings you to the busier town of Scarborough where for family fun you can visit the Alpamare Waterpark, a waterpark unlike anything the UK has ever seen before, as well as plenty to explore and discover in this lovely area.
