  • "Before we arrived, we were impressed by the communication from Gwendolyn, the owner."

This attention to detail was reflected throughout the property, from the lovely welcome basket through to the quality bed linen/comfortable beds/crockery/glassware etc.etc. Logs & kindling were provided for the log burner although, we didn't use it as the underfloor heating provided a nice ambient temperature (we stayed in November). The Old Chapel is in a small village with a pub serving good food and is well situated for visiting York, North Yorkshire Moors, Wolds & Coast. We had a very relaxing stay and would recommend & return.

  • "The Old Chapel is a wonderful, unique place to stay."

The hosts were welcoming and informative, with useful recommendations and always available if needed. Everything we could possibly need for a week's stay with children was provided. Its location in North Yorkshire is ideal for a relaxing break or a fun-filled holiday; being close to the coast, the Moors or the City of York. Thank you so much for a lovely week's stay at The Old Chapel, we have already recommended the property to friends. There is so much more to see up in North Yorkshire too, I'm sure we will be back soon!

  • "We had a fabulous stay at the Old Chapel the accommodation was in ideal location and very beautiful place."

We would say that it was ideal for family but the main bathroom needs a shower for a group of 2 couples.

  • "We weren't sure what to expect, but we were amazed."

The Old Chapel not only met but exceeded our expectations, and the welcome pack including milk, wine and a home made beautiful cake were a unexpected bonus. The Grapes Inn just a 2 minute walk up the road is a lovely welcoming pub with amazing food, more quality restaurant food at a very good price. Was great value and the fact that we could book Sat to Sat and not Fri to Fri like most places are doing was the clincher for us to book this property. We will definitely be back, and hopefully sometime soon

  • "The holiday home was well situated for visiting the Yorkshire Moors; a 30 to 60 minute drive to various local areas on the coast; lots of English Heritage properties and similar to visit; beautiful villages along the way."

The local (2 minute walk) pub was very friendly and served excellent food, including Vegetarian and Vegan (separate menus - just ask!), The property was of a very high standard. Personally for us, we enjoy a bit more garden to sit in, the property has just the pathway along the front, with a small chair and tables. And whilst beautiful stained glass windows adorn the home, and whilst appreciating it was in keeping with being called 'The Old Chapel', I think as modern meets old, it would have been nice to have had one window on the ground floor that you could see out of, maybe along the back wall, it could have been long and thin, in keeping with the 'pew' bench, or make the front door into a stable door to let some light and fresh air in. Still a unique and beautiful property, and the owners went out of their way to make you welcome with a beautiful welcome basket, and lots of local information prior to the holiday and great contact along the way. We would highly recommend if you didn't mind not having a garden to relax in, or windows to look out of on the ground floor. Hence the 4 not 5 star.

  • "Fabulous stay for a week at the Old Chapel."

Very modern and comfortable with everything you could need. The host is lovely and takes the trouble to ensure you have a great stay. Fabulous welcome pack was much appreciated along with restaurant reservations made before we arrived. Location is good as not too far a drive from anything but nice and quiet. The village pub was great and trips to York, Whitby and Boggle hole amongst our favourites. Highly recommend.

  • "Lovely property in a great location."

Gwendolyn does her utmost to ensure you enjoy your holiday - everything from receiving and putting away a delivery of shopping, to ordering and installing a new fridge freezer with a minimum of fuss when the previous one developed a fault. Very good quality bed linen and towels, glasses and crockery. Highly recommended. We loved watching the village cricket team with a pint of beer from the local pub (The Grapes) on a gorgeous sunny evening.

The little touches of a welcome basket and fresh flowers were unexpected but fitted with the whole ambience. Spotlessly clean, every comfort thought about and very tastefully furnished. Gwendolyn was the perfect host too. Would definitely return here again.

  • ""Outstanding."

" We happily endorse the comments and superlatives used in the preceding 28 reviews, the Old Chapel is indeed a lovely place to stay. Gwendolyn, the efficient owner, readily volunteered help, recommendations and advice over and above anything we have experienced before with holiday properties. This was particularly useful before our holiday when pre-booking places to eat and to visit. We stayed with friends and, given the current Covid situation, immediately felt at home and relaxed. Two separate bathrooms, an open-plan living area with high ceilings and plenty of ventilation throughout. And everything is spotlessly clean. We will make more use of the well-equipped kitchen next time - eating out at the local pub,The Grapes and other recommendations was a treat after long months of home cooking. The Old Chapel is perfectly located to make the most of all the delights that north Yorkshire has to offer. Mr and Mrs Glew 5th-12th June 2021

  • "The atmosphere was just what we needed after lockdown."

A quiet village location, excellent property, the log burner was a key feature for the converted chapel. The owner was very helpful ensuring the property was ready, offering to receive food orders and booking for the local pub for an evening meal. The location is good for road cycling, much better roads than close to where I live. The running off road offered many options.

  • "The Old Chapel was wonderful."

Very modern decor, high-spec, and clean, and a beautiful conversion of an old chapel with a lovely open space to relax in. The owners were very helpful and attentive and we are sure they'd have jumped to help if we'd needed anything (which we didn't). Highly recommended. Great Habton is small and quiet, and parking was very easy, but it is located an easy drive to the NY Moors and the coast, and not too far from the Dales, and there are two nice towns nearby for buying food/takeouts (this is during covid so we avoided resteraunts).

  • "The Old Chapel was just what we needed as a family really comfortable and very quiet."

The quality of the Old Chapel made our stay a genuine pleasure. So close to Castle Howard, Pickering and the North York Moors National Park and less than an hour to Whitby and the coast. As a cook even on holiday (I enjoy it) its a rare pleasure to have such a well equipped kitchen to work with. Really comfortable mattress made sleep easy after a busy day.

It is equipped with everything you will need & it is all very good quality. The welcome basket was a real treat - the cake was delicious, & the coloured eggs were quite a talking point. The coffee machine was a bonus - lovely. The nearby pub serves tasty food, but you do have to book as it gets very busy at times. The weather was not too kind, but we did manage some walking. The walk to & from Malton, via Ryton, is enjoyable - very little traffic. Plenty of food & drink outlets to choose from before the walk back. Would definitely recommend this beautiful let!
