We had brilliant contact from the owner who was super helpful. The welcome pack was the best we’ve ever seen and I loved the flowers. Kitchen is well supplied with quality utensils. The whole house is immaculate and the owners have supplied everything you could possibly need. It’s been very tastefully converted and is absolutely stunning. We will definitely be back!

  • "The Old Chapel is a lovely converted Chapel set in the perfect location for visiting the local area from York to Whitby."

The Chapel has modern amenities, including induction hob and underfloor heating but does not lose any of it's charm and character due to the stunning stained glass windows and wood burner. Apon arrival we were welcome with a thoughtful welcome pack, including home baked chocolate cake and strawberry jam, as well as milk, eggs and tea. This was much needed after our long drive. The Chapel was cosy and warm with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We had a tesco delivery booked, unfortunately the driver couldn't find the Chapel, so my recommendation would be to copy and paste the directions given by the host into the information box when you place the order if you choose to do this. However, I do think they should have been able to find it. The beds were comfortable, not memory foam if this is what you are used to, but very comfortable, neither my husband or I had any problem sleeping (beds will often be a downside for us, but we had no issue here) The Chapel was immaculately clean and had a well stocked kitchen should you want to cook. I would definitely recommend staying here and will happily book again.

Thank you for your lovely review, Fiona. It’s great to see such detail written about and recognised as we do take lots of trouble to make our guests’ stay as special as possible. So glad you had a lovely time staying with us, and hope to see you back again in the future sometime. Property Owner

Gwendolyn, our host , was fantastic. Really appreciated the call with information prior to arriving and the lovely welcome basket. It’s such a beautiful building with everything you need for a very comfortable stay. It’s really well appointed and beautifully bright. Great night sleep, lovely comfortable bed. So, so quiet!! It is in the most perfect location with so many great places nearby worth visiting. York and Whitby just a short drive away. The Park and Ride for both places made travelling there effortless. Loved exploring all the small villages and towns nearby. Would thoroughly recommend a visit to Helmsley. The Old Chapel is such a find and we can’t wait to return.

The beds were so,comfy. Communications from the owner were very helpful, giving us excellent instructions on how to find the key, recommending and booking a meal for us in the local pub which was excellent and we returned a few times after. Parking isn’t on the door step but this shouldn’t put anyone off as Great Habton is a quiet village and we just parked on the street near by which wasn’t a problem at all.

Thank you for your lovely comments,Jill, they are much appreciated. We do really try to make our guests’ stay with us a relaxing, pleasant one, and it’s so lovely to hear that our efforts are recognised! • "The Old Chapel is a comfortable cottage in a quiet position."

The location is excellent with easy access to the Moors, the Howardian Hills, the coast, York and the nearby market towns. We stayed for 2 weeks and still had unvisited places on our "must see" list! Gwendolyn is a first class communicator and does her utmost to ensure you have an enjoyable and trouble free stay. The description is a little misleading because the "patio garden" is just the access pathway and is not "a lovely place for some alfresco dining" as it looks across an umade lane to the terrace houses opposite. That aside we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay in Great Habton.

The owner Gwendolyn gave us lots of helpful information before arrival and the welcome pack with wine, cake, chocolates along with everything needed for a first breakfast was very much appreciated. Lots of lovely extra touches too like candles and flowers. It’s in a quiet village with an excellent local pub, The Grapes, and a great location to access both the N. Yorkshire coast and moors. This attention to detail was reflected throughout the property, from the lovely welcome basket through to the quality bed linen/comfortable beds/crockery/glassware etc.etc. Logs & kindling were provided for the log burner although, we didn't use it as the underfloor heating provided a nice ambient temperature (we stayed in November). The Grapes Inn just a 2 minute walk up the road is a lovely welcoming pub with amazing food, more quality restaurant food at a very good price. The local (2 minute walk) pub was very friendly and served excellent food, including Vegetarian and Vegan (separate menus - just ask!), The property was of a very high standard. Personally for us, we enjoy a bit more garden to sit in, the property has just the pathway along the front, with a small chair and tables. And whilst beautiful stained glass windows adorn the home, and whilst appreciating it was in keeping with being called 'The Old Chapel', I think as modern meets old, it would have been nice to have had one window on the ground floor that you could see out of, maybe along the back wall, it could have been long and thin, in keeping with the 'pew' bench, or make the front door into a stable door to let some light and fresh air in. Still a unique and beautiful property, and the owners went out of their way to make you welcome with a beautiful welcome basket, and lots of local information prior to the holiday and great contact along the way. We would highly recommend if you didn't mind not having a garden to relax in, or windows to look out of on the ground floor. Hence the 4 not 5 star.

" We happily endorse the comments and superlatives used in the preceding 28 reviews, the Old Chapel is indeed a lovely place to stay. Gwendolyn, the efficient owner, readily volunteered help, recommendations and advice over and above anything we have experienced before with holiday properties. This was particularly useful before our holiday when pre-booking places to eat and to visit. We stayed with friends and, given the current Covid situation, immediately felt at home and relaxed. Two separate bathrooms, an open-plan living area with high ceilings and plenty of ventilation throughout. And everything is spotlessly clean. We will make more use of the well-equipped kitchen next time - eating out at the local pub,The Grapes and other recommendations was a treat after long months of home cooking. Great Habton is small and quiet, and parking was very easy, but it is located an easy drive to the NY Moors and the coast, and not too far from the Dales, and there are two nice towns nearby for buying food/takeouts (this is during covid so we avoided resteraunts).
