  • "This was such a relaxing and comfortable place to stay, with lovely views too, thank you!"

A really great base for exploring the area and visiting family, then being able to relax in the hot tub in the evening was wonderful. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals and TVs in the bedrooms was an added luxury. Our only comment would be check the location carefully with the owner (who is really lovely) in advance, (especially if you are arriving in the dark because the Carvin Tor sign is not well lit) the directions on the Sykes website weren't great and sat-nav will take you to a different property.

The kitchen had all you needed, the bedding was lovely and clean and the beds were comfortable, the house was clean throughout and the rooms were all spacious...mind your head on the beams though. We had a little trouble with the keysafe not sure if it was us or a bit dated. The views were lovely, although on the main road to Northallerton not much traffic seemed to pass so really peaceful too. The hot tub was great...a little step may be helpful for some people. My son was made up getting some fresh eggs. All in all a lovely place to stay and really good value for money.

! Everything you could ever ask for! Hot tub was clean and we used it every night! The kitchen was the most well stocked kitchen I have ever seen!!! Directions from the sat nav stop you before the lodge but when I spoke to Kevin the day before our stay he told me this and explained where to go after the sat nav stopped and we had no problems finding the lodge. Very close to Northallerton which is a lovely little town with plenty of shops and supermarkets! Thank you again we had a lovely stay!!

  • "As a group of 6 ladies, we have just returned from a weekend in Carvin Tor."

A very pleasant stay overall. 10/10 for cleanliness! Not a spec of dust to be seen! Bedding was beautiful and fresh. The bathroom is lovely and spacious. The hottub was worth it's weight in gold as we had sunshine all weekend and it sits in the sun all day, so we made good use of this. The owner comes every day to check the pH level and it was beautifully hot and ready to use on arrival. This was fantastic for a weekend away with friends, but I think we would have felt quite cramped if we had stayed any longer, as we maxed out the capacity with 6 people. Low beams in the kitchen and bedrooms can be dangerous if you forget they're there! No dishwasher, although not to say there won't be in the future as there were tablets in the cupboard and a space next to the fridge where one may have been previously. Smart TV, tv's in bedrooms, microwave, toaster, oven & hobs, washing machine but no detergent so be sure to take your own if you plan to use it. Hand soap, tea towels, washing up liquid and sponge/scourer. Large fridge and freezer so plenty of room for all our food and drink. Excellent supply of glasses and plastic beakers, which is important to use outside, as glass not allowed in hottub. Not suitable for wheelchair access or to anyone unable to climb steps.

The entrance living room would benefit from curtains across the double doors to provide privacy and make it more cosy. The hot water system needs attention as it kept going cold and losing pressure. The owner was helpful in trying to fix the problem but it kept re occurring. On the whole a pleasant place to stay.

All other time was very very peaceful. Very spacious bedrooms and a very good kitchen with everything you need. Hot tub excellent also but needs an up over cover for it as lifting the cover on and off would be hard for some people. We believe the entrance / living room could be rearranged to look less like a hotel reception room. Beds very comfy. Blinds could be added to improve privacy and keep the sun out if needed. Overall very very nice accommodation and would definitely recommend to friends.

Very clean and the kitchen has every utensil you could ever need! We stayed during storm Arwen and was slightly worried about noise from the storm but we couldn't hear anything really and we were lovely and toastie inside! We stayed here on a recommendation from a friend and we are so glad we did! Beds are very comfortable and we all had a lovely nights sleep! We stayed as 6 girls celebrating a 40th birthday and found a lovely bar in Northallerton called the Potting Shed that had a DJ on, so if anybody is going for a similar thing, we recommend there!

Would definitely go back. Only thing, directions sent to me by Sykes only got me to the main road (which is long & runs through the entire village) it was dark & there's no phone signal, so had to drive out of the village to get signal & ring the lovely owner who was very helpful & directed me straight there. But essentially my waffle is saying better instructions could have prevented me bothering the owner on a Friday night! (The sat nav doesn't take you to the address.)

What a wonderful little hideaway this property is. Kevin, the owner is such a helpful bloke, full of knowledge of the local area and nothing is too much trouble for him. The property was spotless throughout, kitchen well stocked with every utensil/pots/pans you could ever need, real home from home. Beds were extremely comfortable, we slept like logs ! Great , strong WiFi signal, comfortable sofas in the lounge area and TVs in every room with Freeview and as it’s October it was a little chilly in the evenings so we cranked the heating up a little bit, made it even cozier with the rain lashing against the windows and the wind howling! The hot tub was lovely too. Ok, it’s not the newest model but it does what it’s supposed to do, hot, bubbly and very relaxing. We will definitely be back for another visit. The location is perfect for getting out to either the North Yorkshire moors or The Dales, there’s so much to see and do within a short drive and spectacular scenery everywhere. My wife and I would highly recommend Carvin Tor, we’ll be back as soon as we can.

  • "This property is well below Sykes standards."

The property had many issues the beds were very poor quality & uncomfortable, the kitchen had a integral washing machine dumped under the worktop, also F/Freezer was integral used as a free standing one, no handles, cupboards were old & sad looking, worktops & hob marked. Kettle had to be filled from the spout, there was no cupboard space to put food so had to be left on worktop. Glazed window in the kitchen was blown, chair in living room had feet removed, one bedroom was unfinished painted. Hot tub area in desperate need of some tlc certainly wasn’t a patio garden area. The list is endless. The view must have been taken elsewhere, we stayed in a Sykes cottage in May this year for less than the £800+ we paid for this one. I was pleased to leave & return home to comfort and high standards.

About the location

NORTHALLERTON

Thirsk 9 miles.

Northallerton is a County town and administrative centre of North Yorkshire, located at the foot of a ridge dividing two river basin areas, the Wiske and the Cod Beck, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the edge of the Vale of York, between the Hambleton Hills and the Yorkshire Dales. This thriving town boasts market days on Wednesdays and Saturdays, when both sides of the High Street are home to stalls selling a wide range of goods and produce, plus on the fourth Wednesday of the month the market is joined by a farmers' market. Despite its modest size, Northallerton has a number of independent and national shops, including Betty’s Tea Rooms, Lewis & Cooper, an outstanding delicatessan and wine merchant, award-winning butcher’s, artisan baker, greengrocers, two department stores, several supermarkets and bookshops. With good rail links to Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, Durham and York, the activities are not just restricted to the countryside. Situated equidistant between the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, the opportunities for exploration are endless. These include a day at the races at one of the many local courses, including Thirsk, a family trip to the unique Forbidden Corner at Middleham, a trip to a country house such as Newby Hall, Kiplin Hall and Castle Howard, or a round of golf. The restored Victorian resort of Saltburn, plus the pretty beaches and coves of Runswick Bay, Sand's End and Robin Hood's Bay, along with the town of Whitby, are all within one hour's drive away.
