  • "What a fantastic property with everything we needed for a relaxing holiday."

It was furnished to a high standard, it was well equipped, had comfortable beds and the views from the living area were stunning. We loved that we could walk from the property to the railway station. We enjoyed walks from the house as well as catching a train a few stations along then walking back. We barely used our car. There was a friendly pub in the village and a well stocked and welcoming shop. We had a high quality meal at a pub (The Postgate) in a neighbouring village and again very welcoming. We parked in Robin Hood’s Bay and walked along the coast and headed back on the cinder track. We wished we had two weeks instead of one week there was so much to see and enjoy. I highly recommend Chapel on the Hill as a place to relax after long walks exploring the glorious North Yorkshire Moors.

  • "The accommodation was very comfortable, warm and welcoming."

It is well appointed and if you want to go on a true self-catering holiday, this place has everything you need! Grosmont is well situated to do walks "from the door" as well as being convenient to explore the rest of this beautiful area by car. We had a wonderful week's break and highly recommend Chapel on the Hill.

  • "Ticked all of our boxes."

Whilst only the 2 of us, our requirements are demanding; 4 or 5 star, no pets, 2 bathrooms, parking, views and wi-fi. Chapel-on-the-Hill met all of these. A comfortable, well thought out property in a quiet location. Ate out so did not use the kitchen but appeared to be well equipped. Would happily return.

The upstairs living gives a superb view across the valley and it's, nice sitting on a night watching the car lights going up an down the other side. Places to eat in Grosmont are limited but it's a short hop down the road to Goathland where The Homestead Kitchen does some excellent food. Can highly recommend The Chapel as an excellent base for exploring the area.

Great facilities kept immaculately clean and wonderful views from this upside down converted chapel. Would have been 6 stars if one of the settees was as large as the other to enable both of us to stretch out after a hard days walking! How minor can you get!!! Fabulous!

Very clean, warm and comfortable. Comfy mattress on bed always important. We had everything we needed for a weeks break. spacious and nicely decorated and furnished. It is beautifully decorated and has a spacious interior. Unfortunately, as stated, the property would not suit people with mobility problems as there are several steps outside and inside. The owners have every right to be proud of this property. Thank you Rod and Jill.

  • "Fantastic !"

The initial hillside views and impressive chapel were just a prelude to the accommodation itself. Every room and appliance were spotlessly clean down to the smallest utensil and there was absolutely everything you could need for your stay and more. It is obvious the owners have put a huge amount of thought into the layout and decor. Very spacious but warm and cozy at the same time. The location means you do not need to travel very far to visit both coastal and rural towns. We would and will, recommend a stay here to others.

The view from the first floor was indeed wonderful, but with the overdimensioned very black (uncomfy and not our taste) sofas the living area lost its very unique charme. • "Our fourth fantastic stay in these lovely properties (Chapel-on-the-Hill and Sunday Cottage)."

Outstanding as always. A lovely discovery this time was the new 'Albert's Gallery' in the stunning restored Wesleyan Chapel on Church Street, Whitby. We found it too late to book an evening meal but it was great for even just a coffee and fab cheesecake. Also shows old films maybe once a fortnight. The Station Tavern in Grosmont is under new management and was closed for repairs most of the time we were here so not sure how it will have changed. We had a couple of lovely meals in The Postgate in Egton Bridge though and bumped into Andy (the old Station Tavern barman) who now works there. Great days out in Filey, Bridlington, Whitby, Scarborough and Pickering. Also cosy times in this lovely property just cooking, reading, doing jigsaws and chilling out on the rainy days. Thank you!

Great Sunday lunch at The Forge at Aislaby (best to book) and also had a very tasty meal at lunchtime in the Mallyan Spout Hotel in Goathland. Places to visit - Robin Hoods Bay is a fabulous little town with a massive hill; Sandsend - excellent beach and pizza restaurant was perfect; Mallyan Spout Waterfall - worth the walk and our 2 and 4 year old children managed. A big hill and rock at the bottom; Falling Foss Waterfall - a beautiful tea room. Take wellies for children; Pickering or Whitby on the steam trains - Pickering Castle was great, huge portions at the Black Swan. Amusements in Whitby good on a rainy afternoon.
