  • "This cottage was lovely for a family holiday to explore Lymington, the New Forest, Beaulieu, and the Isle of Wight."

For us, parking was easy every time required - outside the front door, which was framed by pretty roses. We got the parking permit arranged once we phoned the cottage owner, who picked up first time and registered our car details online at their end. This cottage was a real 'cottage' size, yet cosy, well- renovated, equipped and furnished with a nice 'sea/blue' interior theme. The stairs were steep, so we found that using the handrail was necessary. We found the mattresses were quite comfortable, and discovered the lounge sofa also proved to be a good sofabed. The area was very quiet at night. So, on our stay, we slept well. One evening, we relaxed and dined in the small sun-trap back garden surrounded by fragrant honeysuckle and tall evergreen hedges. In Lymington, we ate at the King's Head pub-restaurant. Their 'giant' fish & chips main dish was very, very good. A great stay.

  • "Driftwood is a very comfortable cottage with the most amazing views across the Kent estuary."

This was our second time and I am sure we will come again. It is in the most beautiful situation and perfectly placed for exploring Arnside & Silverdale and local area as well as the Southern lakes and Yorkshire dales. We had some wonderful local walks without travelling far at all, and lovely to know we were coming back to such a comfortable cottage every evening. We were very grateful for all the information about local walks in the folder and the books provided.

  • "This is a beautiful cottage with amazing views."

I stayed at the cottage last year and I did feel that although the upstairs was very clean, fresh and tidy the downstairs area was not as good as last year and lacked things like decent bin bags and a kitchen roll, a sweeping brush, just the basics . I will probably return at sometime in the future but at over £800 for the week would hope for a little more luxury.

Bed lovely and comfy, great night's sleep. Cottage generally clean, but feel it needs more of a deep clean now. Rug in sitting area dirty and stained. Only cleaning products was washing up liquid and 3 dishwasher tablets. General all purpose cleaner would be good, plus washing machine powder and bleach.

  • "Beautiful views, warm with superb decor."

Comfy bed, great shower with luxurious toiletries. Lovely kitchen and welcome gifts. Leather settee a little hard, settee in window quite low. Last 4 stairs twist round, are deeper than normal stairs and have no handrail. Great TVs and wifi. Plenty of outside seating. Parking tight for a large vehicle, you need to reverse in from start of lane. First 3 steps down into garden have no handrail. Next 6 steps are steep but have a good handrail. Great area, good homemade food at The Bulls Head, Milnthorpe and plenty of take aways.

You won't go wrong staying here even the neighbours were friendly and helpful advising on places to eat, two places to recommend is the highwayman and the plough at Lupton, Best fish and chips is at arnside.

  • "A very comfortable well furnished cottage in a good location."

Ideal for couple or a small family. We had one small problem to which the owner responded very quickly and sorted it out. Overall very good and to be recommended. Dog friendly too with hose for washing down provided. Location is great for dog walking on the beach across the road and for the spectacular view. One niggle is that the parking could be significantly improved by removing the drying pole which prevents turning and necessitates reversing out of the otherwise generous space.

  • "Had a great week in this property."

I'd highly recommend and I'll hope to go back one day. The only things I'd note are: If you want ice for drinks etc take an ice cube tray as there wasn't one.; Also take a pair of oven gloves there weren't any. The loo needs some plumbing adjustment because it wastes water when refilling as it keeps running for ages but thats a concern for the owners to maybe look at for their sake. It does work. I've suggested the ice tray and oven gloves be added on a note I left. If you have a dog and shut the driveway gates do keep checking they are still closed as we kept finding them open and our dog got out one morning when we thought they were closed and as he's young we were worried to get him back but fortunately we got him quickly. Apart from the above we found the cottage to be extremely clean, well cared for and furnished to a high standard. Beds very comfortable. Shower is great and powerful. Plenty of hot water and heating great. View across the bay absolutely superb. Outside space well done and as I said, good for our dog to run around a bit. Its easy to cross the road at the front to take the dog for long walks. Also if you drive out towards Arnside Knott, on the way up the hill is a Forestry Commission trail which is wonderful for a dog walk as a stony path has been made which is great if its been wet. The fish and chip shop in Arnside is also great and the Curry place in Milnthorpe very good also we tried them both. If you pay cash at the curry house you get 10% off. There is a Booths supermarket at Milnthorpe which was ok for lots of basics like milk, bread, butter, veg etc. but I found to be lacking in some things so if anything special maybe take it with you. I must point out that the pub almost next door is still currently closed down which is a great pity because being so close it would have been great to pop along for some pub grub. Hopes it may re-open. We found the cottage to be very cosy and a great pleasure to spend some time relaxing in which was the purpose of our stay. Although we cleaned up last morning, I only hope we are forgiven for not hoovering up on our last morning as our dog decided to hurt his paw and we had to rush off away to get him to the vet before they closed at lunchtime. The Dyson hoover is great I used it couple of times through the week and it took no time to hoover up to keep the place tidy. Towels are thick and plush and there is a hairdryer in the main bedroom. There is also an outside umbrella for the Summer which is stored in cupboard in main bedroom as is an iron etc. If you decide to go stay you won't be disappointed. It was a strange feeling that I'd happened by sheer chance to have selected a cottage almost next door to my Aunt's house I used to spend time in as a child but a nice feeling and I'm hoping we'll be able to book to go again next year at some point if they'll have us. The bottle of wine was a lovely touch thank you as were the toiletries also. All in all a wonderful place and most definitely 5 stars and as I've travelled all over then if I say its good then you can take it to be so given I stayed in a cottage in the Lake District last year and couldn't wait to get out of it to go home and I went home early. Well done Nick and Leanne you've created a lovely place to stay thank you.

Thank you so much for such a comprehensive review, your time and effort is very much very appreciated. The toilet has been fixed and thank you for bringing it to our attention and we have some silicone oven mitts for the oven too. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay, that you liked our little holiday cottage and we hope your dogs paw has recovered. Thank you. Property Owner

The house has an excellent location at the top end of Morecambe Bay with pleasant walks immediately on the doorstep and interesting views of the bay as it changes appearance based on tide or rainfall. Other than that would recommend but remember no bath. Good place to be to get into the Lake District

Thank you for your review and we are pleased that you thought the property was very clean with good facilities. I am sorry that you had problem with fly's, Driftwood is surrounded with beautiful neighbouring gardens, its in a designated ANOB area including the protected woodlands behind and the estuary with its grasses are directly on the door which can attract fly's at certain times of year. We have checked the property fully after your comments and we can not see any other reason why you should have had so many. The roman blinds are made to measure but due to them being fitted to the wall they can move away slightly, leaving a small gap down the side. we are very sorry that this caused an issue and we are looking into ways to resolve this. About the location

SANDSIDE

Milnthorpe 1.2 miles; Beetham 2 miles; Arnside 2.5 miles; Kendal 10 miles.

The hamlet of Sandside is situated on the estuary shoreline of the River Kent, within the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 1.2 miles from the small market town of Milnthorpe. With beautiful walks from Sandside, the hamlet has a pub, which is believed to date back to 1671, along with the Kingfisher Restaurant. Close by is Milnthorpe, which was once an important medieval market town, where today you will find narrow lanes and historic buildings, along with a selection of shops and pubs. Also within reach is the former fishing port of Arnside, which has a beautiful pier and to the south of the village are the 15th century Peel Towers, which were constructed to defend against the marauding Scots. There’s plenty to see and do in the area, including the Lakeland Wildlife Oasis, Dallam Tower, Levens Hall, Leighton Hall, the Leighton Moss RSPB Reserve and Sizergh Castle. The Lake District, Lune Valley, Yorkshire Dales and Forest of Bowland can also be reached making Sandside an excellent base for exploring the area.
