  • "This property is getting ready for an upgrade."

All appliances are tired. The fridge is too small for a big family. Seating at the dining room table is inadequate for 9 people .Lack of enough pans for cooking. No sharp knives. There is a water leak from a pipe in the utility onto the freezer top.

Its a shame you didnt come direct to me with the above for me to help resolve, as I want all my guests to enjoy their stay! Im a bit confused to what you actually required as I have contacted the current guests in case they felt the same and they said they are having a lovely time and they dont need anything extra apart from another tea towel? They have adequate pans and knives and also never mentioned any leak in the utility room. There is also 7 guests currently staying! Within the last year, Atlanta has had a new dishwasher, log burner and all mattressed renewed. When there are quick changovers because the property is full most of the season, the property will not be perfect as the start of the season, but my housekeeper is the best and keeps it beautiful! Atlanta is a 220 yr old cottage which keeps its oldie worldly charm and at the end of each year it will always get the makeover Atlanta does deserve. Property Owner

Very spacious, lovely garden to play in. The cottage was very clean and well equipped. The walk to Whitby on the cinder track which is close by was enjoyed by all. A real lovely family weekend.

The house was clean and spacious, we could have done with a bigger pan to be able to cook for all 8 of us more easily and there was no stair gate for the family room which was a bit tricky for my 2 year old at night but Caroline has already taken this on board and plans to invest! Thanks Caroline we had a lovely stay.

Thankyou for your lovely feedback and I truley welcome constructive ideas which is always a great help to me! Thankyou for being such great guests! Caroline x Property Owner

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Atlanta last weekend, to belatedly celebrate my wife's birthday."

Thank you very much to the owner, Caroline, for the birthday card and the small gift waiting for my wife when we arrived, it was a lovely thought. The property was ideal for the seven of us, being well equipped with all we needed, as well as being very clean and tidy and our granddaughter loved all the cuddly toys in the bedrooms. Having the pub two doors away was an added bonus and, after asking them, they also allowed us to park a car in their car park overnight. We would certainly recommend your property to anyone looking to stay in the Whitby area.

Thankyou for your lovely feedback which I have only just seen (sorry) So glad you enjoyed your stay and such lovely guests are always welcome to revisit anytime x Property Owner

  • "Atlanta was perfect our group of 4 adults, 3 children (10 and under), and the dog."

Heating was on for us when we arrived, which was great, because the weather was terrible. The log burner was all set up ready for us to light, and the owner had left a little basket of goodies for us. The bedrooms in the cottage were all of a good size, while the kitchen had everything that we needed. There is a good sized garden with a seating area, but unfortunately due to the weather we didn't get to utilise this. The location was great, and only a short drive into Whitby (it could be walked, but the weather wasn't suitable). We walked the cinder path to Robin Hoods Bay on a clear day, which took about an hour. The views were fantastic. We also had a good meal at the pub 2 doors down from Atlanta. If you're a large family/friend group, then Atlanta is a great place to stay in the Whitby area.

Thank you for your wonderful feedback and so glad you enjoyed your stay at Atlanta and also fantastic information for future guests Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay here with regular, helpful communication from the owner."

The kitchen is well equipped with lots of crockery and glassware. Lots of mugs for our 6 adults to use with having to wash after each drink! The log burner was lovely and easy to use. No issues with the heating, showers (more than one running at the same time!) and hot water. The garden is great for dogs - very secure. The welcome box, Christmas decorations and card for the birthday 70 year old was appreciated! Thanks for a lovely stay.

So glad you enjoyed your stay and thankyou for being such lovely guests. Have a wonderful Christmas from all at Atlanta! Property Owner

  • "One of the reasons we booked this cottage was because it had off road parking."

We were informed TWO DAYS before the holiday that this was no longer the case! The bed in the en suite room was shorter than normal, the mattress was inadequate even with a mattress topper. The cutlery provided was poor.

Im sorry that you didnt have anything positive to say about Atlanta as I have wonderful feedback from other guests. Im afraid the off road parking is out of my control however there is plenty of other space around the house (being double fronted) and I have parked directly outside (on the road) for over 20 yrs without any problems at all. The bed is a standard double bed in the Ensuite room and is not a shorter one. And Im not quite sure what you mean about the cutlery as it is plentiful giving my guests everything they need. Its a pity you had not been more precise with yoiur comments and then I may have been able to rectify any problems if it was possible to Property Owner

  • "We had a great time at Atlanta Cottage."

It is well placed to visit the North Yorkshire coast and moors. There's easy access from the door to the Cleveland Way and Cinder Path for walking to Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby. The pub 2 doors down serves excellent food and is worth a visit. Booking advised. The cottage itself was a great size for 8 adults. A few of the plates & dishes were cracked or chipped and needed replacing. I raised this with Caroline the owner along with lack of teapot and oven gloves and she said she is going to replace them. She was very pleasant and receptive to the feedback. Overall, I'd say it was a nice place to stay which just needs a little TLC in places, but for the price you get a decent holiday let for 8 people.

  • "From: Carolyn, Julie, Alisa, and doggies Bailey and Bella Fabulous week’s holiday spent in the beautiful, well equipped Atlanta Cottage."

We had our food shopping delivered the evening we arrived, but there’s a big Sainsburys, Aldi and B&M just a short drive away. Cottage was very clean and we felt at home immediately. Nice welcome pack including biscuits for humans and canines. Spacious, tastefully decorated living room with plenty of seating for everyone now - our attentive host Caroline has obviously taken on board a previous reviewers comments! PROPER size tv too, not a pathetic tiny thing you sometimes get in holiday cottages, complete with Netflix and Amazon Prime Video so you can enjoy a movie night after a day out exploring. Excellent, friendly pub right next door, with a beer garden for when the weather is kind - can recommend pie night on Tuesdays and we were booked in for steak night on Wednesday. We had to cancel though after having fish n chips at Abbey Wharf in Whitby at lunchtime. (This is the restaurant / bar with the balcony overlooking the harbour - such a lovely place to sit and enjoy a bottle of Sauvignon) Also dog friendly-ish. Just don't drop leftovers on the floor for your pooches or you might also get told off! Our 2 doggies loved Atlanta’s good sized, secure lawned garden. The comfortable garden sofas on the patio and sun loungers did get used but would be used even more so when the sun shines. It’s a real sun trap. There are 3 spacious light and airy bedrooms, along with 1 slightly smaller double - all with crisp, clean white bedding and nice towels. As parking can be an issue in Whitby during high season, we can highly recommend the local taxi firm - their business cards are in the living room. You can also walk along The Cinder Path to either Whitby or Robin Hoods Bay. We enjoyed nice food at The Victoria Hotel in RHB and it is also dog friendly. Overall, Atlanta Cottage helped us to enjoy almost the perfect holiday - just wish we’d had slightly more sunshine! We will definitely be returning. Thank you Caroline

    G. dishwasher not opening properly or cleaning very well, railings on stairs are loose, gates were rusty and difficult to open, lights in living room very dim. Only little things but quite a few of them, easily fixed. The property has a v calm feel and it is a brilliant location. We had a great time.

  • "Just returned from a wonderful week away in Whitby, hosted by Caroline at Atlanta."

The house is well equipped and comfortable for all your needs. As a large group of 5 adults, 2 children and a dog we had ample space to relax but also served as a wonderful central point to explore the local area. The pub a couple of doors down was a nice treat. There’s a small playground for smaller children a 5 minute walk away. The bus stop is just down from the property, we used this to access central Whitby but it is a nice walk too. Robin Hoods Bay is only 2 1/2 miles away and Scarborough is around 18 miles away. What more could you ask for.

I am sorry that you had a problem while staying at Atlanta and quite surprised that you quoted a smell of cats. I have never owned a cat and there has never been a cat in the property therefore can be certain it was not a cat smell. I can only imagine it was farm smells which is opposite Atlanta (seasonal smells of the countryside). If you had responded to my welcome message I would have willingly come to assist you and my contact derails are in the cottage also. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay. Property Owner

  • "We absolutely loved the cottage we booked, it was perfect."

In fact one of the best cottages we have ever stayed in. However, Sykes was dreadful and refused to help us. All we wanted was to provisionally hold the property for 48 hours (just slightly more than maximum hold period of 24 hours) whilst a funeral was arranged, after which we would be able to confirm our dates. Whilst this is not Sykes policy to do this, we felt certain that if you would only contact the cottage owner he/she would be amenable to being flexible on the dates whilst we sorted out arrangements which were beyond our control. However much to our frustration there was zero flexibility or customer service from Sykes which only added to our distress during a very difficult time. We regularly stay at self-catering cottages all over the UK, however we will make sure that we never ever use your company again.

Caroline, the owner, left a lovely welcome pack which included teabags and milk, and made sure we were enjoying our stay. It made a wonderful, quiet base for our trip to the area and is away from the crowds in the centre of Whitby. The village pub, 2 doors away, has a large beer garden and delicious food.
