  • "A wonderful stay at Hanging Hill Farm Cottage, the accommodation is very clean and comfortable and the position is great for access to York or the Yorkshire coast."

We really enjoyed the stables activity and watching the horses being looked after by a very dedicated team. It was a pleasure to meet Helen, thank you to both Helen and Caz for a brilliant stay.

  • "Super cottage and hosts."

The only thing that spoiled it was what appeared to be a wasps nest outside the bedroom window, meaning we couldn't open it and the weather was very warm to begin with which meant an uncomfortable couple of nights.

  • "A lovely cottage for two."

Just what we needed to unwind. Lived having two rooms, and made use of both. Loved seeing the horses and dogs. Would love to return at some point. Beautiful countryside. The only fault is really minor, but could do with blackout curtains in the bedroom as the sun woke us up before 5.30 each day

One of the finest cottages we have ever visited. Owner made us feel at home and could not have been more helpful. Ideal location for visiting North Yorkshire. Extremely quiet and peaceful location. Highly recommended .

Accommodation was spotless and the host was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this cottage to any couple wishing to visit North Yorkshire. We would certainly return should we re-visit the area.

  • "Excellent cottage, in great location."

As other reviewers have said Hanging Hill Cottage has very high standards for quality, comfort and cleanliness. We were warmly welcomed by owner Helen, and information folder had all the details we needed about the cottage and local area. Light and airy, with second sitting/reading room, offered plenty of space. Ideally situated with plenty of opportunities for good days out, and just a short drive to Malton which has everything you want for food and essentials, whilst York city is not far away. Great to see the horses stabled across the yard from the cottage, along with the chickens and ducks in their pen too. Lovely sunny patio with pretty plants, and superb views from windows all round. Good Wi-Fi for internet to find places to visit, and leaflets for attractions enhanced our stay. We found the cottage to be quiet and relaxing.

  • "This is a comfortable and spotlessly clean cottage, offering everything you could need for a fabulous get-away in a great location."

Looking out at the horses, chickens and ducks is wonderful to wake up to, and the owners (and their two friendly labs) are welcoming and helpful. The nearby town of Malton has a monthly food-lovers market and lots of shops and cafes to spend a pleasant day browsing around. York, Whitby, Scarborough, the North Yorkshire Moors are all within easy travelling distance, so this is a great base for exploring that whole area.

  • "This cottage is everything it claims to be in the description and the very welcoming, interesting hosts and the horses, dogs, chickens, ducks and pony make it so much more."

The setting is magnificent and the sight of the surrounding hills a wonderful wake-up view. All incredibly relaxing. The location is excellent, and even though we stayed out of season, a combination of the Moors, Dales and Wolds are packed with interesting and beautiful places to visit / things to do. Aside from the many villages and market towns, York and Harrogate are close. The spectacular Yorkshire coastline is less than an hour away with great beaches, walks and fish and chips which are hard to beat! As a couple we've stayed in many holiday cottages. For us, Hanging Hill Farm has significantly raised the bar for future bookings.

  • "We managed to book Hanging Hill Farm at the last minute, 7 days before our break."

Stayed 5 nights at this fabulous cottage - the photos on the web site don’t do it justice. Absolutely amazing gem of a cottage, which we were so lucky to find. Everything about it was immaculate, and exceeded our expectations. Yes it is on a working equestrian centre, but that never caused any issues. Actually added to our enjoyment, watching the horses and other wildlife. The owners were also very pleasant, and available to offer assistance if required, not that we needed any. We were blessed with good weather for most of our stay, so were able to sit in the secluded patio area when we were back at the cottage. Fantastic tranquil base to explore this part of Yorkshire - if you want to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, this is the place for you. Definitely recommend - a big 10 out of 10 from us. Thankyou to Sykes, and also to the owners of this amazing cottage. Definitely hope to return.

  • "I would question the use of the word "retreat" in the ad."

While it's a lovely cottage in a quiet country setting, there are very often people walking around the farm tending to animals, and quite often pass directly outside the windows. I don't like being on view in my pyjamas having breakfast.
