  • "Beautiful well appointed and very comfortable cottage."

Everything we needed was provided and the location is brilliant. The roll top bath was amazing as was the shower. The snug was a lovely extra space as we needed an extra sleeping space. Dog was very well provided for which was great. Well maintained and very clean cottage. Would love to stay again.

So glad you enjoyed our property - we look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was really lovely and local to all amenities."

The garden is amazing for dogs to have plenty of room to explore and stretch their legs. I just have a couple of small things to bring to the attention of the owners. 1. The shower seal strip is coming loose, so difficult at times to open smoothly. 2. Regarding the refuse bins we could only find one small black bin.( so we used this). 3. We were a little disappointed as there was no welcome pack when we arrived to greet us, not even a small bottle of milk. Overall we had a fantastic time and would definitely recommend as everything else was spot on.

Thank you for your comments. We are aware of the shower seal and have one on order to solve this issue. The black bin is available for all the rubbish as our council does not have any facility for separating recycling material for holiday homes. We are currently looking at how this could be implemented at our cottage. After providing welcome packs for two years we have found that mainly any welcome pack is not used by guests, and frequently thrown away. Currently we supply tea, coffee and individual milks and sugars to guests as this seems the least wasteful plan. Any ideas about how we can reintroduce the packs without waste would be gratefully received. Your score has been the lowest we have received over the first two years of our little business and I hope this does not put off guests what want to enjoy this idyllic cottage and market town. Exceptional cleanliness throughout. My personal choice for crockery would be white and staying during the winter months a warmer duvet on the bed I did not find any instructions on how to remove rubbish and fire ash.. very minor details which did not impact on our fabulous stay but may be useful for others

Thank you for your kind words and your constructive help on the duvets. We will look and see if we can arrange this. I will make sure that our welcome folder has the detail about the rubbish and fire ash. We hope you will return in the future. Property Owner

It's very clean and comfortable, has a lovely garden and is in a great location. I was concerned that there may be significant noise from traffic, or difficulty in parking, but there was neither of these. I would highly recommend a stay in this cottage.

  • "We had a lovely time at 29Bondgate."

It has been beautifully done out mixing the aged cottage with up to date modern facilities. We found the cottage extremely comfortable, especially after a long day out exploring North Yorkshire. Lovely market Square on the doorstep too. Great central location to visit so many places, we will need to go back to do the ones we missed. There is a pond in the garden, hidden by the foliage, which I didn't see in the description and would have been nice to know about as we have small children. Other than that I can only say positive things. Thank you.

Thank you for your kind words and also drawing the pond issue to our attention. We will have this included in the description in the future. I do hope you will come again. Property Owner

If I had to rate out of 10 would give it a 6 but so easy could be a 10. I personally think the Sofa was very uncomfortable, and the one sofa in the smaller room would have preferred it if the kitchen table had been in there giving more space in the kitchen. Last point was the fridge no freezer facilities. But as said only my opinion, been gone 24 hours and missing the comfortable bed al ready. We are planning our return trip.

Thank you for your feedback. The sofa is brand new this year so shouldn’t be uncomfortable. We have chosen to have the extra seating in the connected lounge to make it a more sociable space for four guests staying or a quiet reading corner in the cottage. • "Very good property, very well equipped, we have stayed in many holiday cottages throughout the UK and we have never stayed in one that has everything we need for a weeks holiday."

The welcome pack was handy, but I was slightly disappointed to see it was filled with supermarket products, rather than local produce and I wonder if its necessary when it's a two minute walk to the town centre. We stayed in autumn and the cottage is very cosy and warm, the wood burner isn't required, there are enough radiators to keep the house toasty warm, very impressive considering the age of the house. The huge back garden is dog safe and well presented, lots of fresh apples when we were there too. This house is a terraced property, with attached neighbours on both sides, we expected some noise, but we not aware anyone was living there, except for Thursday when they put the bins out. The only drawback to the property is the location on the main road, parking near the house can be difficult, we could only park near the cottage if we arrived back after four in the afternoon, I would imagine this will be worse in peak season. The only free parking in Helmsley is on the road side along Bondgate, so the locals who work in the town park here. Also the road noise is quite intrusive, but you don't notice it after the first couple of nights. Overall this is probably one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in and we will without doubt be returning soon. It's a new listing and after meeting the owners I get the feeling it will be kept at this high standard, they had just replaced the mattress' in both bedrooms when we arrived and their attention to detail is quite impressive. If you come to the North York moors for the first time, this is the perfect base, all the major tourist destinations are accessible from here without too much driving and the town has excellent cafes, pubs and restaurants.

Thank you for your kind remarks. We have now upgraded the welcome pack to better quality “Yorkshire theme” produce. Parking has always been possible after 4 even in summer and there is always parking around the back of the property just a short walk away. We look forward to you coming back again. Property Owner

The moment we arrived we,felt at ease and relaxed ,"A home from home." On arrival we found the owner had left some basic grocerys which were very much welcomed after our journey. We especially liked the nice little touches like cassis room spray and molton brown rhubarb and rose hand wash in the bathroom which was lovely. Another nice touch was the thought and effort Given to 4 legged freinds , Florence our dog who loved the basket full of teddys ,her plump bed and dog treats would like to say a big Thankyou. As garden lovers we adored the back garden as did our dog Florence, safe and enclosed and lots of interesting hidden corners . we were amazed on the depth it gave to the property, we would love to return in early summer to see it . • "With a few little touches this property could be perfect, however we wouldn't recommend or stay again without some changes."

There are however lots of positives. The location is perfect and we had no issue parking outside of the property each day. The facilities are good, and it is super dog friendly with everything from stair gates, dog bed, treats and toys provided. The bathroom is beautiful and garden is large. The front door lock needs addressing. You need two hands to be able to open it due to it sticking which is not ideal for anyone with a disability. It's only a small thing but it became more frustrating as the week went on. When we booked the photos showed a free standing fridge freezer. Prior to our arrival we received a text to say this had been updated to an under counter fridge with ice box and wine cooler. The under counter fridge was comparable to a camping fridge size wise not even filling the available gap. We took meals for 3 evenings for 2 people and it was full. Had we been sharing the cottage with another couple, had children with us, or simply wanted to bring more supplies with us we wouldn't have been able to manage. Also because we had to effectively overfill it items in the fridge actually froze. We slept in the bedroom with the 2 single beds pushed together. The mattresses were comfortable however they are not zip linked (or at least were not zipped up) which meant after a couple of days there was a reasonable gap between the two. The mattress in the other room is such poor quality there is no way we could have slept on it. Had it been the only bed available or had another couple been staying with us it was so bad we wouldn't have been able to stay the week. This needs replacing. The bins were full on arrival which was frustrating, but understandable as the instructions were poor. The wrong date was given for one bin in the welcome book, and it was not clear where to go to take bins around the back. The electrics tripped about 5 to 6 times on one day. We couldn't find any explanation as to why as we only had the TV on. It sounds like a lot of complaints for what is overall a very nice property. With a few small changes it really could be perfect.

Thank you for your comprehensive feedback. We shall adjust the front door to make the lock work smoothly. We have some changes planned for the kitchen but due to long lead times on appliances and the cottage being fully booked until early November we have not been able to carry these out. The changes will include a bigger fridge and freezing space. We also have a zip and link bed to replace the king size and this will be done in November too. We have been trying to find a solution to the bin emptying. In the winter will will make a dedicated space in the front garden to make the process much simpler but for now there is a list of dates and current instructions in the welcome pack. The electricity tripping is a mystery but we will ask an electrician to investigate. I do hope the small issues will not put you off staying again in this beautiful part of Yorkshire. Property Owner

  • "The property was clean, in a great position for the town with a nice garden."

Unfortunately, the shower did not drain well so had to be constantly turned to avoid it overflowing onto the bathroom floor. We were also unable to get the TV to work as it did not have any signal. Although the information pack was useful it did not include instructions regarding bin collection procedures. We asked the neighbour but he had just moved in so was unable to give any guidance. Overall it was a very nice place to stay and we would be happy to rebook.

Thank you for your feedback. The shower drain has a hair collector device which needs cleaning regularly. We shall add it to the list of changeover tasks for the cleaners in future. The TV now is wired for terrestrial TV and has a Freeview system as well as all the player Apps. We have produced a bin collection calendar which is in the kitchen. We hope to welcome you back before long. Property Owner

  • "Hi ,we had a lovely time at your cottage ."

it felt like a real home from home.We loved it being so central to Helmsley and the gorgeous spacious garden.A slight improvement would be a blackout blind or curtain over existing blind as it hindered my sleep. Also a nest of tables so drinks could be placed instead of putting them on floor where dog could knock them over. These are just areas minor recommendations though. We all enjoyed the welcome pack, butter and a loaf as well as eggs were great additions.

So glad you enjoyed your stay. When we redecorate the bedrooms we shall upgrade to blackout blinds - a great idea for summer guests, thanks. We decided against a nest of tables in the lounge as there is a table at the side of the sofa, a fixed shelf at the other side and plenty of window shelf for drinks etc. Property Owner

Very comfortable with everything we needed. The welcome basket was fab. The garden was lovely…and we were able to sit and enjoy breakfast and lunch at the outside table. Dog friendly; even had dog bowls and a couple of blankets plus a stair gate if you needed it. The noise from the main road was quite loud when in bed but that’s nothing that the owners can do anything about so no downgrading. We hadn’t taken any instant coffee and there was none in the cottage, but there’s a Co-op very close by for those things. Helmsley is a lovely town with plenty of cafes, places to eat and things to do. Would definitely recommend.

  • "Mostly a very well appointed and comfortable cottage (would benefit from coffee table in lounge area)."

Really liked the welcome pack, and garden (pity the grass hadn't been cut). It was a lovely place to stay. However, there is a concern regarding the adjacent property, which has two garden gates directly communicating with garden of this property. We brought a dog, and twice found gate ajar, so somebody had entered 'our' garden when we were out, leaving gate unsecured. This is unhelpful in trying to keep dog in the correct garden. We were also taken aback that, on the morning of our departure, there were actually workmen from next door in 'our' garden, without so much as a by-your-leave. This was not satisfactory.

Thank you for your useful feedback. There are coasters available to place warm drinks on the shelf next to the sofa or on the deep window cill behind. Unfortunately the shed lock had jammed and so the lawn mower could not be accessed. This is now resolved and the lawn will be cut regularly. Our neighbour has a right of access down the left hand side of the rear garden to maintain his hedge. He has recently had work carried out and perhaps the workmen had inadvertently left the gate open. We will talk to the neighbour to ensure this gate is kept closed. I hope this did not detract too much from your holiday. Property Owner
