I was a little concerned about keeping warm, with it being January, but I needn't have worried. The heating and log burner keep you really toastie, and the bed is both comfy and warm. There is a little bit of road noise but even for me, who craves complete quiet, it didn't bother me as the position of the hut is over looking the fields and set back. The facilities are perfect and the owners are very accommodating. I am really looking forward to returning when I can.

We had a fabulous week visiting so many different places, Helmsley town centre is lovely for breakfast and cakes and coffee, Castle Howard is worth a visit, and York isn’t too far away either. The shepherds hut was so cosy and had everything we needed. The sheep and goats and the hares and pheasants are lovely to watch. We had the best view from our hut and despite the weather being chilly we still managed to sit out and enjoy the scenery by the chiminea. We even managed to fit in a lovely massage with Fiona, highly recommended.Thank you so much for our stay and we have already booked to return again in the summer.

  • "I booked my break at Bellwether on a bit of a whim and I’m so happy that I did!"

The Shepherd Hut is a piece of idyllic heaven, hidden away in the countryside. By the time I left a week later, I felt completely revived and relaxed. Fiona & Tim have definitely provided everything that you will need for the duration of your stay here. Aside with how pristine and clean the hut was, I was also greeted with the sweet gesture of a lovely little welcome basket, filled with spring flowers, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits, eggs and cute little bottles of juice and milk chilling away in the fridge. There is also a very detailed guide booklet provided for guests telling you everything you need to know for the duration of your stay. Also be aware the tiny log burner (starter pack is provided) REALLY does kick out some heat. You really will be lovely and toasty in the cooler months! There is a suitable little table top cooker (this thing is amazing) a pan set which sufficed! Glasses, cups, cutlery etc and a great little toaster & microwave. You literally will want for nothing - The bed is lovely and comfy and provided with both soft and hard pillows for your own preference - (who even thinks of this)? I arrived late in the evening and I couldn’t get the internet to connect to my devices so Fiona & Becca very kindly popped across to help immediately. Honestly they couldn’t do enough to help me before and during my stay - There is a little outside seating area with chiminea and undercover seating area too. All overlooking the beautiful views of the countryside. The little goats and sheep will come to greet you as you come and go every day (the sheep is always up for a petting) there was only bad side to my whole stay unfortunately - I had to go home! But I will definitely be booking to come back here and highly recommend this place if you want some peace, quiet and lovely scenery with owners that clearly care about what they do and will go above and beyond for their guests

We had a wonderful few days in the beautiful, tiny shepherds hut. It was very clean and inviting. The welcome pack was very thoughtful and welcome. There was everything we needed for our stay, including tea, coffee and cleaning materials, so it doesn’t matter if you’ve forgotten something, it will probably be in there somewhere. The views from the window were wonderful too. The only minor issue was that the quilt had a waterproof cover which I found uncomfortably warm. We would be very happy to stay there again.

! What an amazing experience. Bellwether was a little piece of paradise in the North Yorks Moors! Far enough away from the madding crowd for complete tranquility yet just a stones throw from everything you could need and more. This quaint shepherd's hut was packed with all the amenities one could expect from a high star-rated hotel with lots of lovely little extras besides - freshly laid eggs, milk, flowers and goody hamper on arrival to name but a few. The cutest little wood burner supplied with ample logs really gave out some heat, but the underfloor heating was more than sufficient to make the accommodation cosy. With a beautiful vista over farmland and rolling hills to one aspect the outlook to the rear saw friendly little goats and a sheep (quiet and very well behaved!). Only booked for a short break so didn't have the opportunity to enjoy the chimnea heated patio area or the sheltered outside snug area. Truly fantastic. Can't wait to return!

I didn't realise there wasn't an oven in the property and we took a pizza but couldn't cook it. It wouldn't fit in the fridge either as the fridge is very small. It wouldn't have been a problem had we known. We wanted somewhere to spend half term that was close to nice pubs and good walks, but also felt luxurious. The Bellwether gave us that and more. The shepherd’s hut itself is really spacious and bright. There were gorgeous touches, like we were left a basket of fresh eggs, homemade marmalade and marshmallows to roast on the fire. There is everything you could need- the kitchen is well equipped, and the bed is super comfy. The bathroom is spacious and modern. The hob heats up really quickly and was great for making breakfast. The outside space is beautiful- we loved sitting out and reading next to the chiminea. The animals are fab- we loved Otto, Aggie and George, and checked for them every morning to see what they were getting up to. Fiona was so accommodating and kind as a host. The hut is near to Helmsley where we had lovely meals, and enjoyed the local brewery. We also visited the farm shop at Beadlam, Pickering and Whitby. • "We really couldn’t have asked for more, the accommodation was comfortable and clean and had everything we needed."

The location was perfect, peaceful and relaxing but close to some great little places for walking and exploring. I recommend the farm shop nearby for some great food for the BBQ. Fiona and Tim left a lovely welcome basket of goodies for our arrival which was really unexpected and thoughtful. Great hosts! I just wish we had booked a longer break but will definitely be back!

  • "What an amazing weekend, from start to finish couldn’t have been better, fantastic location, amazing hosts."

Every detail thought of in the hut and facilities, from a lovely little welcome pack, cafetiere for your morning coffee through to a gas BBQ to make the most of the wonderful country side. The bed is very comfy and the fluffiest towels provided. Situated on the edge of a lovely little village with fab Indian Restaurant/Take away and Fish & Chips just a 5 minute walk away. We ordered a curry for Friday evening, collected it and enjoyed it sat outside as the sun went down. The coast is a very picturesque drive away so we made the most of it and spent a day in Whitby, calling at the farm shop next door to the Hut on the way back, to get a selection of their produce for an evening meal on the BBQ. The most relaxing break we have ever had. George the Sheep & Aggie the Goat are extremely welcoming and make great neighbours. We can’t wait to return

  • "A place to rest, relax and find yourself."

Idyllic location, super views and owners that make you feel so welcome. I had the best week ever. I made two new friends Aggie the goat and George the sheep. Every day calling me for the fruit I used to give them. This is a super holiday for a romantic break for two and ideal for one if you just want to get away from everything. Extremely comfortable and fitted out to a very high standard with everything inside that you could wish for. Would definitely recommend to friends and family. Thank you so much Fiona. The massages were wonderful too.

  • "Throughly enjoyed our trip."

Fiona went out of her way to make it comfortable for me and my partner. I really appreciated the little touches like providing us with a complimentary bottle of Procecco and cheese biscuits which was lovely! She was very approachable and friendly which made us both feel at ease and checked we were settling in okay when we first arrived and let us know to contact her if there was anything we needed. We both liked using the BBQ outside and also the wood burner inside the Shepard’s Hut. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a nice chilled and romantic weekend away. The views from the Shepard’s Hut was amazing! Thank you for having us. X
