  • "Had a very pleasant stay."

Well furnished and immaculately clean cottage with Welcome pack appreciated. Disappointed that I could not enjoy the bath as bath plug didn’t fit properly. Otherwise, enjoyable stay. Thank you.

  • "The Tack Room is situated in a huge holiday park with static caravans and a touring/ camping site."

The cottages are a very small part of the complex. This meant there were lovely grounds to explore which was a definite plus. The cottage was very nice and we appreciated the private outside area, but, having stayed previously in cottages owned by individuals who went out of their way to give a warm welcome, we felt this was a bit impersonal. There was no welcome pack, which didn't matter much, but, very surprisingly, there was no cafetiere or even jug and filter to improvise with on the first morning, before we could go out and buy one! Not having morning coffee made a bad start. I must also mention that the windows and beams were not clean. But overall, we enjoyed our stay very much and would definitely book with Sykes again.

  • "We all had a wonderful week in The Tack Rooms although there were a few things that could do with a bit of maintenance."

Sink and bath plugs, toilet seat in double bedded room was loose but these were just cosmetic and didn’t detract from having a great time. The outside setting for The Tack Rooms was a sun trap and very sheltered from everyone else staying in this converted complex. Beautiful settings around the lakes and there is a new shop under construction. Pub within walking distance and The New Inn in the next village of Leven is well worth a visit. Would we go back, most certainly but would take a few extra coathangers with me

  • "We thoroughly thoroughly enjoyed our break at The Tack Rooms The cottage was absolutely perfect."

Clean, spacious and equipped with everything we needed for our break. The holiday park the cottage is on is immaculate. It has a fantastic play park for the kids, beautiful nature walks and with Hornsea beach only 15 minutes away we made more than one trip for fish and chips during our stay. The park is also nice and quiet so a fantastic option for families who want plenty to do but need calm evenings to get children to sleeping We were all very sad to leave with several tears from our young children as we went. We will absolutely return again though and can't wait to get our next stay booked.

  • "Stayed here before in the forge and we are already booked in to go back in October."

Great place to go if you have dogs. Some nice size walks in the grounds . Very nicely located for visiting the coast via a short , 15 minute drive . Friendly people who work and also stay there. Looking forward to returning.

  • "Not enough attention to detail ."

No hoover , mop or kitchen equipment. No welcome pack or even toilet roll. Bath wouldn’t stay full and freezer kept going off and no number or any one out of hours. The back of the tack rooms was a scruffy and unkept . We paid slot of money but prises now rise to double what we paid . Over all we thought the experience was poor . No shop as advertised and no farm .. we wouldn’t stay here again .

  • "A very nice conversion."

Clean tidy and quiet site with nice walks and friendly staff. Well equipped for four but be mindful to take the basics with you as there was no welcome pack and the nearest town is four miles away. Dont let this put you off tho.. Really relaxing weekend.

  • "An absolutely beautiful property, deceptively spacious."

Beautifully maintained gardens and some stunning walks in the local area. The staff are very helpful and full of local knowledge, and great to chat to! Great support and suggestions of things to do and places to go, even during the tiers system in a pandemic. We would definitely come here again, and will whole heartedly recommend both the site staff and Sykes Cottages team.

  • "The cottage is in a lovely location and was very peaceful at the time we visited."

My husband enjoyed a little fishing on the lake. The property was not cleaned at all well. The television and stand were covered in dust and the screen had something spilt on the screen. There is a large coffee table and this was covered in crumbs from previous visitors. The sofa was covered up the side with cobwebs and what looked like dogs paw marks on the arm. There were cobwebs all over the place. The kitchen could do with some more equipment. ie dishes for oven and perhaps a measuring jug. Carpet in master bedroom needs replacing very warn in places.

  • "The cottage could do with some more serving dishes and small sharp knives."

Otherwise it was a very nice cottage and, because we have a dog, the walks around the site were great and we used them daily.

  • "Upon arriving at the accommodation it was disappointing that the lounge area faced the barns which housed mouldy hay bales and a large cage area, the stone covered ground was also covered in weeds which was not a pleasant view to sit and look at when relaxing."

The actual accommodation itself was dirty with cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, on tables and curtains. The windows went from floor to ceiling and they were dirty with smear marks all along them. There were four of us staying in the accommodation and one of the en suite bathrooms was unusable due to the plug in the sink not holding the water in place and the tap on the bath poured water out of the top. Complaints were made to reception and we were advised this would be fixed. This never happened despite several complaints and it had still not been fixed upon us leaving, meaning for our entire stay we all had to use one en suite bathroom which at times was not at all practical. In the kitchen area there were ants. Again several complaints had to be made to reception before they were treated. Having booked and stayed at various Sykes cottages it was disappointing to be faced with the various issues an even more disappointing that our complaints were not addressed as they should have been. We had recommended Sykes to friends who came with us and to be honest we were left feeling embarrassed at the lack of cleanliness and response to complaints made. We paid in good faith to stay at what appeared to be on the website as a lovely place but overall were very disappointed that the cottage was not as advertised and was not fit for the purpose it was rented for.

The large fishing lake is great and my grandson who is 18 caught several good sized fish there. We only stayed for 4 nights over Easter so will definitely return to this interesting area sometime to explore more.
