Made to feel very welcome by friendly owners & the cake & milk left was very kind. Would definitely book here again if we came to this part of Yorkshire. Great base to explore from. Recent investment in the property is evident. Plants and a living Christmas tree as well as home baked mince pies were a lovely seasonal touch and much appreciated. Good Broadband connection. A good supply of fuel for the open fire was welcome … coal, dry logs and kindling in the shed … A well equipped kitchen, where everything worked and was well maintained, made self catering an easy option. Nice outdoor area which we did no use in midwinter but would be lovely at warmer times of the year. Short ride to local Coop in Pickering catered well for our needs . Larger supermarket in Malton. This is a good cottage for a family … our grandchildren loved visiting and staying on a working farm … obviously supervised due to the nature of a farm environment . Thank you for a lovely stay!

  • "We really enjoyed staying in this cozy cottage."

It was very comfortable and welcoming. David, one of the owners made us very welcome on arrival and the flowers, milk and chocolate cake provided were a lovely touch! Situated on a working farm just off the A169 between Malton and Pickering, you drive through the farmyard to access the cottage and its parking spaces. It was very picturesque, we could see that roses would be flowering around the door in the summer. Because of its position, the cottage was very quiet. Obviously being a working farm, sheep and cows in the neighbouring fields do make some noise at times but are very entertaining. I’m pretty tall (195cm c 6ft 5in) and although the cottage was very traditional, I was delighted that there were nice high ceilings throughout. The only thing I found too low was the bathroom basin. The cottage was in good decorative order and kept nice and warm by oil fired heating. Shower water pressure was good. Broadband speeds were consistently around 3 - 4 Mbps down. This was just good enough to be able to stream video services to the HDMI equipped TV in the front room, surf the web, send/receive emails etc. The cottage is well situated for visiting many pretty towns and other places of interest. We particularly enjoyed visiting Whitby, Ravenscar and Robin Hood’s Bay. Nearest supermarkets were in Malton and Pickering. Both these towns are worth visiting too. Thank you! This is one of the nicest cottages we’ve stayed in, in a super part of the country and we certainly plan to come hear again.

The pictures of the cottage are a bit out of date as there is a new, modern kitchen fitted. We love the open fire and having access to logs and coal rather than "first basket free" is a refreshing change and made our evenings lovely and cosy. We have already booked again for next year. Well equipped, comfortable and clean. The photos haven't been updated but there is a new, modern kitchen in the property that was a nice surprise on arrival with electric cooker and oven, extractor fan and slimline dishwasher. It is well equiped with pretty much all you need in a kitchen as well as dish cloth, dishwasher tablets, tea towels, washing up liquid and hand soap which often are not provided in self catered places. The owners were very friendly and helpful and made it clear we were welcome to look round the farm and see the animals with the children whenever we wanted to. This was great as there were lambs and calves a plenty! Well situated close to Pickering, we enjoyed walks in the area as well as a 30 minute drive to whitby and Hunmanby Gap which was a fabulous beach. We loved sitting by the fire on chilly evenings with plenty of wood and coal at hand in the outside store. The garden was bigger than expected with a grassed area around the back and side as well as the walled, sheltered garden at the front which was a lovely sun trap. We booked again within 15 minutes of leaving the property and would highly recommend. Thank you!

Farmer David gave my two young sons and my husband rides in his tractor - a highlight of their year!! The surrounding area is absolutely stunning and a joy to explore - we can highly recommend Whitby, Robin Hoods bay, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway experience, Rievaulx Abbey, the beautiful city of York, and a walk on the moors from the Hole of Horcum. The leather suite in the living room was very uncomfortable too, so there was nowhere to sit and relax . I don’t expect to pay good money to go on holiday and have to clean around the beds and behind them before we can get into them!!! The kitchen was also a health hazard!

The Beck Isle Museum is also well worth a visit, with its unique collection of black and white photography and displays of rural life. Walkers will be spoilt for choice by the rolling hills, valleys, rivers and abundant wildlife of the North York Moors, whilst the city of York and the Heritage Coast are just half an hour’s drive away. All in all, a wonderful setting for a relaxing holiday.
