  • "Looking back on other reviews from earlier in the year, the DVD player still not working."

Housekeeping, furniture was layered in dust. Main thing was the fridge, the ice box was thick of ice and just managed to get ice tray in. Cushion covers needed cleaning. Overall had a good stay. Cottage was warm, bed comfortable.

Just two small things. We needed a first aid box and couldn't find one. Also think there should have been some anti bacterial spray. But we had a wonderful holiday it was like home from home. Will definitely be back again. Thankyou

  • "We found the Cottage very comfortable, roomy and quietly private."

It was very clean and we were grateful for the small touches of items provided for our consumption upon our arrival. We only encountered a couple of minor problems during our stay. The light and shaver point over the wash basin in the bathroom would not work and we reported this to the Caretaker's Number, where we left a voicemail message for them. We also feel there maybe a fault with the DVD Player as we could not get any DVD to play beyond the 1 hour mark, every disc seeming to stop and refuse to play on. That is only a minor issue and we bring it to your attention only and not as a complaint. Nothing detracted from our very enjoyable stay at this quiet location which is extremely handily located for access to Whitby and to local shops. We will definitely be returning for a further stay at Broadings Cottage.

Thankyou so much glad you enjoyed your stay. We are sorry about the issues you encountered we will sort these out Kind regards Margaret and dave Property Owner

The heating broke down in our original cottage and the weather was freezing, the owner of the site realised it was going to be a big job and immediately transferred us to a beautiful cottage at no extra cost. The owner of this site and his wife are amazing and kind and very generous people . They continued to make sure we were happy and warm and they could not have done more. Highly recommend this site and thank you so much for making our stay so memorable. Gary and Carol Cooper.

There where cobwebs down the back of the bedside cabinet . I have photos . The shower drain needed cleaning out , the water wouldn’t drain away . The day it rained all day , we thought we would watch a dvd , the player doesn’t work , it freezes and won’t continue . Sadly , the bed was so uncomfortable, we have decided to cut our stay short and go home today (Thursday) . The clothes line in the garden is very dirty and in a bad state of repair ……these are not expensive to replace . The site position is lovely , and we have booked to come back , but in one of the newer cottages …..this one is tired and needs some upgrading .

  • "The accommodation was very good - it reflected the fee we paid."

Every utensil you could wish for was there and all equipment was spotless. HOWEVER, the tv was a disgrace in that the Freeview only showed around 10 channels. We returned it twice but this did nothing. We contacted the telephone number given and were told that there had been a few complaints about this and that she would send someone round, which she did, straight away. The man who called was not a tv engineer and he said "We do not get any more Freeview programmes than this in Yorkshire!" How ridiculous. This really spoilt the holiday because we had to resort to viewing programmes off a small tablet which our grandson had (fortunately) taken with him to play games on. This, of course, caused problems because there were times when we all wanted the tablet. We spoke to the owner too but he said he had not been informed of this problem and agreed that it was not good enough. Please sort this out for following guests. A £20 aerial would probably do the trick. Some sort of refund would be applicable here, don't you think.

The only slight negative for me was the bed was a bit uncomfortable, but was fine for my wife, so that’s a personal choice. The cottage is on a working farm and caravan site but neither is a problem. The views of the NYM from the private enclosed garden are fantastic and if you are fortunate enough to be able to eat outside like us throughout our stay is the icing on the cake. Oh, and the owner, who lives on site is very friendly without intruding, would definitely recommend.

So once again a very enjoyable relaxing stay at Broadings, nothing to fault whatsoever, 25 minute walk into Whitby and if if you need transport back the Park & Ride service runs every 15 minutes from Whitby bus station, 2 minutes across the road and you can have a quiet relaxing drink at The Stables at Cross Butts which is a 10 minute walk back to the cottage, all in all excellent.

I rang as requested 48 hrs before and asked if we came early would we be able to park up anywhere the owner let us park up on the cottages drive. The only gripe we had is we forgot to fasten the gate up at night so when we got up someone had let their dog off on the grass so we had dog mess to clean up wasn,t good as we had taken our 7 yr old granddaughter with us. We didn't want for anything ,even had biscuits waiting for us to enjoy with our cuppa .Would have been nice to have a four slot toaster instead of a two one as electric grill quite slow, also a grab rail or handle would be good in bath for the less mobile. Please note these are not complaints just suggestions .Well we enjoyed our stay here so much we booked for next year while we were there.A big thankyou to the owners and see you next year.

Ideal for two or for a family but not really for two couples Bathroom could do with an update.. it is fine and shower is fantastic but the washbasin is small and and is set rather low.
