  • "The cottage is ideally situated in a quiet courtyard on the outskirts of the peaceful village of Marton."

The quality of the fixtures and furniture in the cottage is very high, making it easy to move into as a home from home. We really enjoyed our time there.

  • "I visit Barn Cottage regularly for the past 15 years as it is easy to get to see my family and friends I know the neighbours now and it us like a 2nd home to me."

Just an observation about the key code as it is always the same 1947. I treat the cottage with respect but some one may not be as honest as me and copy the actual key, ergo they could get in any time. I chatted to one if the neighbours about this and they agreed. IT IS NOT A CRITICISM just something to think about. I will be back soon and thank Michael Strong for me for allowing me to stay there so often

Thanks for your feedback - and your concern about security. I know we haven’t changed the box number for a while- but the key is only actually in there when we have a guest due to stay! Look forward to welcoming you back. Mike Property Owner

Very peaceful and a lovely area and easy to get many places in the county. Would recommend a torch to walk to the nearest pub at nighttime as no footpath for part of the way.

  • "A comfortable cottage ideally placed for visiting Castle Howard, Helmsley and Pickering."

The welcome pack was very much appreciated. Kirkbymoorside is just a seven minute drive for petrol and the Coop supermarket for provisions. Good communications from owner prior to arrival. The travel details do not mention that the two allotted parking spaces are one in front of garage number four and one sideways on in front of cottage. This detail is in the welcome pack within the cottage but as we arrived in the dark and pouring rain we were trying to shoehorn both cars next to cottage not realising with had a further space in front of garage.

  • "Lovely cottage in a great location - the log fire was the clincher for us and whilst the cottage was lovely and warm when we arrived, lighting a fire each evening made it even cosier."

The treats we received were a lovely gesture and very welcome - thank you. The cottage was just what we needed for a week's rest enabling us to visit the area locally with our dog and then retreat to a roaring fire in the evening. The kitchen was well stocked with crockery and just like being home from home. The back garden was secure and so felt safe letting our dog out. Beds were comfortable and the bathroom had loads of hot water and a powerful shower. We hope to return again as we enjoyed our stay so much.

So peaceful, clean and tidy, we already booked again whilst we were still staying. It would be nice for 4 chairs in the garden but it was beautiful regardless. The ceilings upstairs were a little difficult to navigate for our 6ft 5 guest

I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay, and thanks for the repeat booking. I’ll gladly sort out more garden furniture but I’m afraid your 6’5 friend is going to have to practice their ducking! We look forward to welcoming you back later this year! Mike Property Owner

It is easy from there to see friends and family. I have brought Grandchildren from Amothetby School for their tea and also my Nordic family many times Mr Strong popped in to fix a light bulb problem quickly and I have mentioned the health and safety issue regarding an escape route from the garden if the was a problem in the kitchen When the Kennedy's owned it they told us that the gate at the side was accessible on as emergency exit but this would be impossible as it is over grown with trees. I am not complaining at all just making an observation. I love the cottage like my own home and my husband and I had many happy days there before he died. Thank you for allowing me to share this lovely little cottage which is so comfortable to stay in.

  • "The cottage is situated in a beautiful village and is in a fantastic location to visit North Yorkshire, lots to see and do in the local area."

The adjoining neighbours were really welcoming and lovely. However from when we arrived it was clear the photographs we had seen on booking had been taken some time ago, many things shown were completely different or not there at all. The garden was very overgrown and the grass was very long, so much so we used the lawn mower in the shed ourselves to mow it. There was no chairs and table outside, which would of been nice as we had good weather. All we found was two folding chairs in the shed, not ideal for a family of four. A bench at the front of the property would of been really nice, like the surrounding properties. Inside the sofa and beds were very comfortable and we enjoyed the wood burner. However the whole cottage felt like it needed a deep clean, the kitchen bin was very dirty, as was the laundry basket in the bathroom. The shower screen had clearly been leaking for some time and there was black down the side of the bath from this and the shower head was very dirty. The welcome pack was lovely, thank you, there was plenty of fluffy towels and lots of storage in the bedrooms, however some extra pillows would of been nice. It also took a while for us to spot how the heated towel rail in the bathroom worked, maybe a note in the welcome booklet would be helpful. There was a note to say that dog's were not allowed to toilet in the garden. Where as I 100% agree that dog owners should clean up after their dog & we always do. Saying they can't do any toilet out there at all, meant we couldn't let her out, as we couldn't guarantee she wouldn't do anything. We book dog friendly holiday cottages with a garden, so we can let our dog outside. We have stayed in many cottages and not had this restriction before. I think this should be stated on booking, so dog owners are aware. As usual with cottages we have stayed in dogs aren't allowed upstairs, I restriction I perfectly understand. But as the stairs are open in the living room it would of been helpful if the living room door had closed more easily. When we was in the kitchen / dining room, we attempted to close the door to keep her in there with us, so she didn't sneak upstairs. However the living room door handle had clearly had the catch changed at some point for one you pull and is very hard to close. This cottage has the makings of being fantastic, location is really beautiful. It is just let down by a handful of things which are quick fixes and would make the cottage five star. We will return to the area, but sadly not to this cottage.

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback on your stay. I’m sorry that it didn’t meet with your expectations. I have passed on all your comments about the standard of cleaning in the cottage to the housekeeping team and asked them to spend more time in the bathroom and in the kitchen to make sure that these areas are kept cleaner in future, and I will keep an eye on it to make sure this is done. I do apologise about the garden. The long period of wet weather through February and March prevented regular grass-cutting, while the remaining garden furniture was still in winter storage in the garage. I’m sorry you missed out on the use of them; we would willingly have come and retrieved them for you. Thank you for all of your comments about the dog-friendliness of the house, especially the use of the garden - they were extremely helpful. We’ve never owned dogs so I will re-write the welcome booklet in the cottage to make it clearer that dog owners are welcome to use the garden to toilet their dogs, so long as the waste is cleaned up by the end of the stay. I’m glad you enjoyed your stay in North Yorkshire, and would like to assure you that the feedback you have given us will be acted on. Property Owner
