  • "Very tired and dated, check in time was 5pm, we arrived at 5."

10pm and still being cleaned. One bedroom unavailable as no mattress on bed. No fuel for log burner, brought later on first day. We have reported this to Sykes properties and there has been no response from the owners of the property which I find totally unprofessional. This is a statement on Sykes site ‘We pass on all our guests feedback to our owners and work closely with them in order to resolve any problems’ Sykes are yet to get a response from the owners of the property.

  • "Front of house parking proved quite unpopular one neighbour who animatedly pointed out that planning consent for the building was for one car only not three as stated in the Sykes listing."

Recommend guests arriving with more than one car park one in front of the property with other vehicles being parked on the road (not on the pavement).

  • "A good welcome regarding the Bread and Scones and Jam, delicious."

Plenty of room for everyone, great point being en-suite bathrooms although strangely there are no locks on the bedroom doors. I assume this is a safety issue. When we arrived the proprietor informed us there was a problem with one of the showers that they would remedy asap. This did not happen so was a bit of a downer. Other than that a good place to use as a base for visiting nearby resorts.

  • "There are some positives about the place, but it is need of attention across several areas."

The TV reception on the main TV is shocking. No matter how much we tried we could not get constant acceptable reception. Most of the time we were unable to even watch the standard channels - 1, 2, 3 + 4. I retuned it several times and got a signal, but then it was lost the nest time switched the TV on. Radio in kitchen was just as bad. Appreciate in a rural place but surely things could be made better. The kitchen equipment needs attention - no scissors even though after asking the owner we were promised twice some would be dropped off, not enough cutlery particularly teaspoons. The lighting and how it has been wired is farcical. Still after a week I was unable to work out on how to switch on some of the lights. Didin't help when the main living room one didn't even have a bulb in! The garden needs a lot of attention. You can’t get into it without having to push overgrown bushes out of the way, then you are hit with overhanging brambles - so we didn't use the garden. We appreciated how clean the place was when we arrived, the lovely welcome pack and really great to find a place that offers ensuite bathroom to every bedroom bar the 2 on the 2nd floor. We hope our feedback helps the owner improve the accommodation.

  • "We had a fantastic time with our family celebrating my husbands 80th birthday."

The rooms were great and as described online. The locality was lovely for walks and nearby amenities. There was also a regular bus service that took us to Sandsend and Whitby. Our grandsons aged 18 - 24 plus two girlfriends want to return. My husband and myself had the flat below which had everything we required. Thankyou and we will use you again

  • "We stayed at Mulgrave in November to have a Christmas gathering with family from America, some of whom we haven’t seen in 6 years."

Emma couldn’t have been a better host, we arrived to a warm home with a Christmas tree in the lounge, freshly baked scones and bread. Emma also cooked a huge lasagna for us which tasted amazing. We all had our private space in beautiful bedrooms, all with with en suites. The kitchen facilities were fantastic, had everything we needed and more. Hinderwell is a beautiful village with lovely pubs offering great food. Only a mile away is Staithes and Runswick Bay. A perfect place to stay, we are already planning another visit to Mulgrave.

About the location

STAITHES

Whitby 10 miles.

The charming and sleepy seaside village of Staithes, with its cobbled streets and back alleys, is something of an artist’s dream. Its pretty houses and cottages are clustered around the old harbour and surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides, with a sheltered sandy beach set amongst the rocky coastline. The village can claim connections with Captain Cook who was apprenticed to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. Staithes is still home to an RNLI lifeboat station and a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) landing fish, crab and lobster, with boat trips for birdwatching, fishing and even whale watching available. It’s also the location of the popular BBC children’s TV series, Old Jack’s Boat. Staithes has a strong attraction for artists, with an annual Art and Heritage Festival, galleries and artists studios with art courses and workshops regularly on offer. There’s a free Illusion Trail, which guides visitors around the network of ginnels (alleyways), with trail guides available locally. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliff to the sea’s edge. Altogether a superb base for exploring the Yorkshire Coast, visiting the larger resorts of Whitby or Scarborough and enjoying the moorland villages of the North York Moors National Park.
