  • "Lovely property, great clean & comfy beds and facilities."

Loved the little touches that made staying, with younger family members, easier such as plastic plates being available plus a washer/dryer to. The property really is well placed in the town of Richmond and my children loved being able to see a castle from the house. Our only issues were the WiFi didn't really work however I didn't get in touch with the owner about it, as it wasn't integral to our stay as obviously we were out & about. Plus the door frames were dustier than expected to. However I would happily stay again here and have recommended to my family and friends to stay too.

The cottage was beautiful and in such a perfect location for our family. We would definitely stay again. The host was so helpful too, she got in touch with me the day before our arrival and recommended a few things to take the children to which was really helpful. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We would definitely stay again.

  • "We loved the Old Mission Hall."

We stayed for a week and used the kitchen for several evening meals. The beds were very comfortable. The mezzanine bedroom - the owners might want to make it clearer that while the stairs to the bedroom are open, the mezzanine has glazing and blinds for privacy. This was a very welcome surprise to us. It's a steep but short walk to the town square, but, once ascended, Richmond is a lovely place to explore, socialise and dine. The apartment is also close to the river and some excellent walks. Thoroughly recommended.

The decor was very tastefully done. Everything you need is provided for a self catering holiday. There is plenty to see and do around the area , although alot of hills to walk up! Would definitely recommend this accommodation to anyone thinking of staying in Richmond or surrounding areas.

  • "Really overpriced!"

Can’t believe the high rating. Of course Richmond is a lovely town and the location is fine. The property is very cheaply furnished, it’s doesn’t really have a useable bedroom. We tried to sleep in the mid level bedroom the first night but the bed was tiny and really uncomfortable so we had to abandon that at 4 am and sleep in the roof. That bed was better but really only suitable for one person as it is jammed in a corner under the roof. The Wi-Fi was terrible, on and off all the time. Rubbish needs to be stored in the hall way. The toilet was leaking brown liquid. The windows are difficult to open. There is only a cheap electric fire, not a cosy wood burner. The furniture is uncomfortable.

  • "This was a great unit in an ideal location."

We were two families with one child apiece. Perfect size and very comfortable. We stayed in the upstairs loft and loved the space. The walk to the center of town, while uphill, was very short. We absolutely loved the location and the small market town of Richmond. We highly recommend the Old Mission Hall!

  • "Excellent property with extremely good beds & bedding."

Plenty of crockery & equipment etc. Water supply could be problematical in the "attic" bedroom and a hand held shower integral to the taps would have made hair washing much easier. Plug in the washbasin in the attic needs attention. We really enjoyed our stay.

  • "Lovely property with lots of nice features and easy access to town."

Things to note are no shower with the upstairs bathroom just a bath. Shower downstairs is excellent though. Beds very comfortable and living and kitchen area are great. Plenty of pots, pans, plates etc. Apart from cleaning products nothing is provided so you will need to take everything. 9 am departure is very early as well and appears to be still due to Covid.. Would definitely return despite the very minor negatives which are outweighed by the positives

  • "Family of 4 with two teenage girls, this house was perfect for our week stay."

We absolutely loved the property; it was well equipped, super clean and in a fantastic location. I almost don't want to be too positive so that when we want to rent it again it is free! No allocated parking comes with the property but we never had a problem parking in the street adjacent to the green outside. There is a public car park across the road also, but we never had to use it. It is downhill from the town (which means a steep walk up hill to enjoy all of Richmond's shops, cafes and pubs; however, a short heart pumping climb up the hill to enjoy Richmond is worthwhile. Great property in fabulous location.

  • "The apartment is situated in a wonderful location being a five minute walk from the town centre ( up a steep hill) and close to the river which makes it ideal for walking straight from home."

The area is full of places to visit and Richmond itself a very atmospheric town The property has been. beautifully converted and it was a pleasure to stay somewhere with so much character and so much space. Parking was easy although there is no dedicated parking place this was never an issue. We loved the large screen TV and Netflix being provided but we both found we got neck strain from sitting on the sofa to watch it because it is so high up on the wall. The beds are super comfy and the apartment is very tastefully decorated. As people who like to cook on holiday we found there was only one larger saucepan to use but Emma kindly brought another one round when we mentioned this. The only thing that would have improved the apartment for us would have been some instructions for appliances eg for the oven. We would have no problem in recommending this lovely apartment, we had a great time there

  • "We had the best long weekend away with friends here."

Met on arrival by Emma, our host, who lives very nearby, we couldn’t believe our luck when we got inside and got to see the place in the flesh. It’s the perfect place to catch up and unwind away from home. Spotlessly clean, it’s very well appointed so you’re not having to wash up every five minutes. Really comfy and cozy. Short walk up a v. steep hill and you’re in the market square, with plenty of places to eat and drink. Or cross the bridge and stay low to enjoy a leisurely walk past the falls, to The Station for G&T, cake, or superb local ice cream. None of us wanted to leave this morning and all agreed that we’d definitely go back. Thanks, Emma and family, for sharing such a beautiful home.

About the location

RICHMOND

Barnard Castle 10 miles; Leyburn 12 miles.

Situated at the entrance to Swaledale, the ancient market town of Richmond stands on a prominent hilltop site to the north of the River Swale. Its cobbled streets and narrow alleys or 'wynds' enshrine over nine centuries of busy history and unique character. The town grew up around its castle, a Norman fortress dating back to 1071, famously situated high above the river - indeed the name Richmond is derived from 'Riche-mont' meaning 'strong hill'. Today there are wonderful walks to be enjoyed such as the Castle Walk - a dramatic terrace walk beneath the castle walls - or alternatively walk alongside the River Swale where there are parks, safe paddling areas and small waterfalls to enjoy. Within the town, narrow streets and alleys radiate from the cobbled Market Place (which has a weekly market and monthly farmers’ market) and there are numerous shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy. The town flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries and the resulting elegant Georgian architecture lines many of the old streets. The Georgian Theatre is one of the oldest surviving theatres in the country with visitors enjoying its regular productions all year round.
