Mr Hibberd “The Lifeboat House is very central, walking distance to the the seafront and the shops takes only a few minutes.”
A quirky and unique building, that has all the modern conveniences. A wonderful place to stay to explore the Yorkshire coast.

Mrs Davison “Lovely property in good central location for the beach and town.”
We took are two year old grand child and grown up children, all agreed we would happily stay at the Old Lifeboat House again.
- Mrs Davison, September 2020Mrs Crowther “This was our second year in this accommodation.”
We hope to make it three years next year!
- Mrs Crowther, August 2020Mr Burns “Lovely house, with lots of nice touches.”
- Mr Burns, March 2020Mrs Taylor “Absolutely stunning Old Lifeboat House - looks small from outside but very spacious indoors.”
The kids and I enjoyed it and will return.
- Mrs Taylor, February 2020CMW1966 “Lovely place”
This is a hidden Gem. How lovely an relaxing this place is.An how well this place is laid out. An so near to everything you need. An the welcome gifts we a very nice added touch. An plenty of place to eat in as well. I would highly reccomend this house to plenty of people
- CMW1966, January 2020Mr Connolly “Excellent property in the heart of Hornsea 5 mins from the beach.”
Great base to explore the North Yorkshire Coast. The property was perfect for our family of 4 and dog, comfortable, warm and well equipped.
- Mr Connolly, October 2019Mrs Salmon “House was as described, if not actually bigger!”
Well furnished, clean, lots of extras like toilet rolls, kitchen roll, towels, well stocked crockery and utensils in the kitchen. WiFi and bt TV to use when the weather wasn't as good.
- Mrs Salmon, September 2019Ms Nevin “Highly recommended.”
All that we could wish for. Modern, clean and well equipped. We loved the large upstairs living area. We were so near to the shops and a short walk to the beach. Perfect. The owners were very helpful.
- Ms Nevin, September 2019Ms Baker “I have some feedback :) the property was actually larger than I thought it would be, from the photos, more photos on the website esp of the upstairs space would have been useful?”
and there are only 2 toilets not 3 as advertised on the website! The property is very well situated, handy for the beach, shops etc. Parking was tricky for me, I have a large car and although I could feasibly get along the passage to the parking area at the back of the property I was couldn't do this as the 'angle' for turning into the passageway wasn't big enough due to cars parked on the road opposite. I was informed there was 'on street' parking but this also was tricky (maybe because it was August?). The facilities, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer were great to have and worked well for us,. A lot of of other things were provided-towels, bedding, high chair, BBQ etc and items such as loo roll, washing up liquid, dish washer tablets etc etc, all great to have there for us. Unfortunately the fridge is very small (and not very cold even on full) and the 'freezer' is just an ice box, once we had a bag of ice in there there was no space for anything else which was unfortunate as we'd arranged a grocery delivery which included frozen food. A proper freezer would be much better for a property that can accommodate 6 people. A few other things that we would have found to be useful; a chair in each bedroom to put clothes on (there is space) a couple of sharp knives and a larger rubbish bin would have been better.
- Ms Baker, August 2019Mr Kelly “Fantastic as always!”
!!! Perfect base for our golf weekend.
- Mr Kelly, July 2019donna_goodwin “Unique, lovely pet friendly and well equipped”
Beautiful accommodation - especially considering it is dog friendly. Lots of nice extras like boardgames, vinyl, CD's … extra blankets and towels available. Well serviced kitchen facilities, and the wine and chocolates on arrival were a lovely touch. Access to the car parking space at the rear of the property is very very tight - we managed to find on road parking, but imagine this may be a problem in summer. This could be a deal breaker for some guests, so should be clearly mentioned on the accommodation description. Appreciated the phone call from the owner a few days before my stay to explain where the key was kept. Check out is at 10am - would have appreciated this being slightly later, but appreciate given the size, the accommodation may take some cleaning sometimes between guests. I assumed the accommodation was on the beach front (being a life boat house and showing photos of the beach on the listing). My error I guess as it does state the beach is 2 minutes away. It is very close to the accommodation, but not quite the views I was expecting as the Old Life Boathouse is in the middle of a housing estate. The mattresses were a little too springy / soft for us, but others may prefer. All the bedrooms are a good size. Well located for all amenities, and we had a lovely weekend as a group of friends.

- Ms Vickers, March 2019Mr Ransom “We have just had 2 weeks stay at the Old Life Boat House in Hornsea, the owners have thought of every comfort for a enjoyable stay.”
We would certainly recommend and shall be black. Diane & Stuart
- Mr Ransom, February 2019Mrs Lawrence “Awesome property, very spacious, ideally located for the beach and the shops.”
We, a family of 6 adults spent xmas there. David kindly put up a lovely tree and left flowers, chocs and wine which was a lovely touch. We cooked a full xmas lunch in the well equiped kitchen with no hitches. We would definately recommend and will return. The only small gripe is the matress was too soft.
- Mrs Lawrence, December 2018Mrs Holmes “Lovely house.”
Beautifully decorated. Very close to beach. Would highly recommend
- Mrs Holmes, December 2018Mr Laird “Lovely cottage but TV very unpredictable and bedding was slightly uncomfortable decent parking good location”
- Mr Laird, November 2018Ms Higgens “Great accommodation, very homely and lots of room for the kids to play and run around.”
Nice touch with the flowers, chocolates and wine :)
- Ms Higgens, November 2018Mr Griffin “The conversion of this property has been carried out to a high standard and very cleverly carried out.”
Plenty of space and generally very well equiped and once you get your bearings in the area the Beach is within 2-3 minutes walk which is good if you have young children. Would recommend this property should I be asked.
- Mr Griffin, October 2018Mr Anderson “Really well presented accommodation, welcoming (especially the flowers, wine and chocolates - nice touch) comfortable (at 6:00 tall I found the footboard of the double bed too often and would have preferred a firmer matress, but bed may have suited others and I/we slept fine for the week) well equipped and thought out, with users very much in mind.”
Hornsea was pleasant enough, nice beaches, collected plenty stones and a couple of fossils. Well placed for trips along the coast and inland. Thank you Stuart & Alison Anderson Hamilton Scotland Not forgetting the reason we booked, Ruadh (7 months old Border Collie he loved it)
- Mr Anderson, September 2018Mr Bartelt “Nice old building in quiet surroundings.”
Close to the beach, but to the city center as well. Wie had a perfekt, relaxing week in the Old Lifeboat House.
- Mr Bartelt, August 2018Mrs Howard “Lovely location.”
Perfectly placed for a walk to the beach or a stroll into the pleasant town. Plenty of places to eat locally. Friendly town with good local amenities, but also within a short driving distance of places such as Beverley and Hull.
- Mrs Howard, August 2018Mr Kelly “The Lifeboat is very clean and spacious and makes a fantastic base for our golf weekend.”
#seasidemasters
- Mr Kelly, July 2018Mr Fennelow “The parking space for the OLH is via a narrow track on either side.”
I was concerned on occasion to find a pick up truck parked on one side, blocking access. Otherwise the OLH is an idyllic place and this was the third time we have stayed there. No better recommendation.
- Mr Fennelow, June 2018Mrs Kelham “The old boat house was a comfortable, spacious, had everything you would need for your stay.”
Hornsea was a lovely town with great walks, wonderful views, the pubs also severed lovely meals which was very welcomed after our walks. The people were really friendly too. We would all be returning in the near future.
- Mrs Kelham, June 2018Mrs Shaw “I always prefer to book our breaks in this country through Sykes.”
I am always pleased with professional and friendly help I get from all the staff when ever I need to contact them. I am very impressed with their courteous, helpful attitude. The advertisement for each cottage holiday let are usually extremely accurate. Will continue using them as I always have and recommend Sykes to both family and friends
- Mrs Shaw, May 2018Mr Whittingham “A great sociable living area for 4 generations of the family to get together.”
- Mr Whittingham, May 2018Mrs Sparrow “A beautiful and unique property to have a holiday in.”
I loved the upside down living and so much space. We had everything you needed to make our stay really comfortable. From the outside it looked amazing and once inside we were not disappointed. The owners were very helpful and obliging too. I would recommend this beautiful property to anyone wanting to visit this area. Also Hornsea itself is so so clean. The sea not very far away for lovely beach walks.
- Mrs Sparrow, April 2018Mrs Garland “The property is spacious and comfortable with everything you could possible need even when staying for 2 weeks or more.”
The owner was especially helpful and was with us within about 10 minutes when we had a problem with the heating, someone had altered the clock on the boiler! Lovely welcome with flowers, wine and chocolates waiting for us. So convenient for local shops, we didn't move our car for the two weeks, which suited us as we both had recent surgery, knee and hip replacements respectively. Only thing that would have made it perfect would be to have a toilet on the first floor where the living area and kitchen are!
- Mrs Garland, February 2018Mrs Holmes “Lovely property, beautifully decorated.”
Peaceful location. Close to local amenities and beach. Have booked again for next year!
- Mrs Holmes, December 2017Ms Dobson “One of the nicest accommodations I have stayed in.”
Would defiantly recommend this property. Excellent location :)
- Ms Dobson, November 2017G8407BZbob “brilliant”
What a brilliant place i highley recomend it it was very clean and tidy and lovely personal touches !
- G8407BZbob, October 2016Mr Vickers “The car parking was a struggle for larger cars.”
- Mr Vickers, October 2016Mr Burns “Holiday home as discribed nice place near the beach and town.”
- Mr Burns, October 2016Mrs Dickenson “We liked where the lifeboat house was situated, close to the town centre and the beach.”
- Mrs Dickenson, August 2016Tracy D “Lovely place to stay”
We have just returned from a one week stay at the Old Lifeboat House. We had a lovely week. The house is very comfortable, clean and well equipped and we loved the topsy turvy living accommodation. There were flowers, chocolates and wine for us when we arrived, which is a really nice touch. The outside patio was a really good sun trap and there was use of a bbq too. Would really recommend it for families as it is child and pet friendly.
- Tracy D, August 2016Mr Williams “Really enjoyed the place and the location except the parking.”
The alleyway that you have to drive into in order to park around the back is very narrow and there are brick walls with pillars either side of the entrance. I unfortunately damaged my car in the process of getting in the alley as there was someone parked directly opposite the entrance which gave me no room to swing in.
- Mr Williams, August 2016Mrs Barrett “The Old Lifeboat House is calming and relaxing and spotlessly clean.”
The house is quiet and tranquil, and the owners have gone that extra mile to make the stay wonderful, everything you need is there. It's a 'Tardis', looks small from the outside but once you get inside it is huge. Brilliant place to stay!
- Mrs Barrett, May 2016Mr Whittingham “The open plan living space was ideal for our family get together.”
Overall, there are only so many times you can use the word 'superb' in a review, so I'll just use it the once - superb!
- Mr Whittingham, April 2016Mr Fennelow “A very nice property, this was our 2nd stay.”
It is a well laid out cottage with first class amenities. We hope to return to The Old Lifeboat House next year.
- Mr Fennelow, April 2016Mr Corbett “The Old Lifeboat House was well equipped with everything we needed.”
It is a different and quirky property, with a bit of history.
- Mr Corbett, January 2016Eastwood2015 “Fantastic cottage”
Just returned from our new year week at the old lifeboat house, we were very impressed, this cottage has everything you could ever want, brilliantly equipped, lovely cozy warm lounge area and three fabulous bedrooms, very clean and well decorated even included a Christmas tree - we will definitely be returning.
- Eastwood2015, January 2016Mrs Deeley “I love Hornsea, and the Old Lifeboat House is the ideal place to stay with everything in easy walking distance, and lots of dog walking areas.”
This cottage is such an unusual building, and deceptively huge and roomy with a very well equipped kitchen. Highly recommended. We were very lucky with the weather being good and very mild and sunny with some beautiful sunrises.
- Mrs Deeley, December 2015Mrs Eastwood “The Old Lifeboat House is a beautifully decorated and transformed cottage, great location and everything you could need was in there.”
Lovely, cosy, warm accommodation we will definitely be returning
- Mrs Eastwood, December 2015Mrs Smedley “The Old Lifeboat House was set up to a very high standard, this makes for a very relaxing holiday.”
We like this area because of its long sandy beaches we are great for dog walking. We hope to go again in the near future.
- Mrs Smedley, November 2015Alex W “Home from home”
A great place to stay in a beautiful part of the world. The Old Lifeboat House is full of character while having all the mod cons needed for a comfortable stay. Oh, and the sweets and wine might have helped too :)
- Alex W, August 2015Ms Dodd “The Old Lifeboat House was a fantastic property to stay in, we received a very warm welcome from the owner.”

It was a pleasure to come back to each day.
- Mr Wolfe, July 2015Mrs Alderson “The Old Lifeboat House was fantastic!”
We had a great time, it was immaculately clean, the decorations were just right and there were a range of extras. We were met by the owner on arrival and he showed us round and how everything worked.
- Mrs Alderson, June 2015Deborah H “Hidden Haven”
What an absolute joy it has been to stay in The Old Lifeboat House in Hornsea. A perfect seaside family home. The facilities and furnishings are excellent. Location could not be better, for the old town and the beach. We have all had the most enjoyable week with many many happy memories. Thank you to the owners for caring.
- Deborah H, June 2015Mrs Bhuller “Loved it! Just perfect!”
- Mrs Bhuller, May 2015Mrs Frost “We enjoyed the house immensely.”
The proximity to the seaside was appreciated by our two grandchildren. Ease of access to shops and eating places in Hornsea was a plus for the less mobile members of the group.
- Mrs Frost, May 2015Mrs Bolton “The accommodation position was excellent within the town.”
Excellent ambiance, overall a very good property. Would come back again.
- Mrs Bolton, February 2015Footprints558210 “Mr”

- Footprints558210, January 2015Mr Thacker “Good positioning for walking to the beach, shops/town centre and Hornsea Freeport.”
The host was very nice and friendly and helpful. A gorgeous house, even our three teenage boys enjoyed it. Well done.
- Mr Thacker, December 2014Mrs Bott “The standard of accommodation was outstanding.”
Modernised to an excellent standard. Was comfortable, warm and beautifully decorated. The building from the outside was very traditional but inside had the wow factor, we loved it!
- Mrs Bott, November 2014Ms Robinson “The Old Lifeboat House was a beautiful place to stay, roomy and well laid out.”
We would not hesitate recommending the accommodation to others, and would definitely consider a return ourselves!
- Ms Robinson, November 2014Mrs Bryan “The cottage has been inventively rebuilt from the old lifeboat house to create an interesting space.”
The open plan living area/kitchen was stylish, very user friendly and spacious. The cottage was quiet, but close to amenities and the sea. The historical photographs of the original building were interesting and thoughtfully placed. A good variety of books and leaflets had been provided and on arrival there was milk, tea, flowers and a bottle of wine.
- Mrs Bryan, October 2014Mr Murphy “A wonderful house, cannot praise the house highly enough.”
- Mr Murphy, October 2014Gardner “The Old Lifeboat is an excellent place to stay.”
The upside down design is a great idea, all rooms are very well designed, great for family and plenty of space for children. Everything which may be required was on hand should it be required. It was very clean and very well maintained, excellent all round. This was our second holiday here, there were no tell tail signs of wear within the house, it was very well maintained throughout.
- Gardner, September 2014Mr Rodgers “An excellent property, Hornsea is a very friendly place, very clean and has plenty of lovely beaches where dogs were allowed, our dog enjoyed herself very much in the sea.”
We also found a great place to eat just around the corner which had lovely food, friendly atmosphere, a special area for dogs and reasonable prices. As I have said in my feedback I would recommend this property very highly to my friends and family.
- Mr Rodgers, August 2014Mrs Jones “The house was charming and had an interesting history.”
It was nice that the owners had the old photographs on display. There were only four of us so it was really spacious but is light and airy enough for six. The patio area is perfect and the large shed ideal for bicycles, that was really useful. It was also a real bonus to have plenty of off-road parking. The Old Lifeboat House is perfectly placed to explore the area either on foot, by bicycle or by car.
- Mrs Jones, July 2014A FlipKey verified reviewer “very nice cottage”

- Mrs Parsons, March 2014Mr Chadwick-Taylor “Located near the shops and sea front, warm and cosy.”
The Victoria pub just a 10 minute walk away did great Sunday meals and there were also good shops. Everybody was very friendly, I would highly recommend this cottage.
- Mr Chadwick-Taylor, February 2014Ms Bromley “Novel historical place to stay.”
Re-furbished to a very high standard, well equipped with everything you need, lots of space, quiet. Within walking distance of shops, buses, beach and mere. Clean, warm and cosy. On arrival we found a vase of flowers, bottle of wine, bag of toffees and some very welcome milk in the fridge so we could brew up. Liked the pulpit on the landing, very different and what a convenient place to store leaflets and information on the history of the house.
- Ms Bromley, January 2014Mr Myers “The 6 of us spent christmas here, and were all very impressed indeed.”
It was fantastic accommodation, located within a short stroll from the front, or town centre. The property is very cosy yet spacious.

We will be rebooking our next holiday there.
- Mr Gardner, September 2013Mrs Purvis “The house was quirky.”
Décor was tasteful and modern. We had everything we could possibly need in terms of equipment. It was a fantastic holiday house in a brilliant location. It was interesting to read the file left by the owner with the house's history. The lectern and stain glass window really gave it a sense of history despite it's modern look.
- Mrs Purvis, August 2013Mrs Coulton “The open plan living accommodation worked really well as a sociable space for us all.”
- Mrs Coulton, August 2013Ms Fozard “Great accommodation in a great location.”
- Ms Fozard, July 2013The property
An imaginative and beautiful conversion of the former old lifeboat house in the pretty seaside resort of Hornsea.
This unique, detached property provides a perfect holiday home for guests wanting to explore the east coast yet remain within a couple of minutes' walk of the beach and town centre.
This spacious upside down Hornsea cottage offers a first floor open plan living area with a contemporary kitchen and sloping pitched roof, whilst on the ground floor are three tasteful bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower room.
Finished to a high standard, this first class Hornsea cottage retains an original stained glass feature window and has a very pleasing exterior appearance.
This cottage in Hornsea is close to attractive park gardens and is well placed to sample the local cafes, pubs and restaurants.
Enjoy the long sandy beaches or stroll along the elegant promenade before dinner, plus visit nearby Hornsea Mere, with its various water sport activities.
The RSPB reserve at nearby Bempton is well worth a visit, with its colonies of nesting birds, and for a little culture there are numerous stately homes within easy reach of this Hornsea holiday cottage, including Burton Agnes Hall and Sledmere House.
