"A lovely cottage to stay in for a holiday."
The welcome pack was a lovely addition and meant we could sit and have a cup of tea and biscuits after our journey. The cottage has everything you need for a stay and the washing up products and soap in every bathroom was a very handy. The only downside, and there was only the one, was the fact that we were there in October and there are lots and lots of flies in the area at that time of year.

"The living room furniture was filthy and not comfortable at all."
Cobwebs in every corner of the house, dust like you have never seen and the flooring in the upstairs bathroom was coming away from the bath, tried to use the vacuum in the house a few times for the dust and cobwebs behind furniture but the vac had not been cleaned out in years and was absolutely useless. Safe to say the cleaners the owner is hiring (if they are hiring any at all) are not doing a very good job. Showers are filthy, also the on suite one has mould on the ceiling, the kitchen sink is very loose and leaks, one of the hobs doesn’t work on the cooker. Upstairs tvs didn’t work and the children’s rooms tv only accepted dvds but when we tried to put on one for the kids it didn’t work anyways so complete waste of time. I could go on and on and on. We had a lovely time away at the bay but I would not stay at Northolme again unless it had a deep clean. For the prices you are asking, the cleanliness and keep up of the furniture should be first priority.
Hi Kathleen. I am sorry that you felt the need to give our property a negative review. Please be assured that apart from the 'turnaround' cleans after every guest, the cottage is 'deep cleaned' four times a year. After this review was received all cooker hobs and TV's were checked and were all working fine. In fact two other guests had stayed before the checks were made and no complaints were received. A cobweb can form a day after cleaning, but all our furniture is moved during 'deep cleans' and floors and skirtings are washed. All of our guests have our local housekeepers number to call should there be any issues with the property during their stay. Unfortunately you never made a call. "Lovely, cozy cottage, perfect for our Easter break."
The games and toys were a nice touch and perfect for a rainy afternoon. The property was warm but the hall radiator needs bleeding because the dining area was much cooler than the living room ( not a major issue). We would definitely stay again.

"Northolme is a lovely house and all of our group had a fantastic week there."
We did have 2 minor cleanliness issues. A dirty towel had been left in the downstairs toilet room and one duvet cover in the twin bedroom was slightly stained. Despite this we all enjoyed our stay at Northolme and were very pleased with the site facilities, and would most certainly return and recommend it to others.

"Very impressed with Northolme."
Our grandson was especially pleased to find toys and games in the house for him to play with. The house is very well equipped for 8 people and the en-suite shower was very useful. The beds were comfortable and we all slept well. Our two spaniels enjoyed the beach and the meadow walk. We would stay again.

"Lovely cottage on the Bay-plenty of space for everyone, and in a lovely position on site up at the top (near security)."
Lots of games and dvd’s provided to keep everyone entertained. Having 3 toilets was really useful as well as a bath and 2 showers. Plenty of seating in the lounge area as well as at the dining table. Only downside to the cottage that we found was that the beds were uncomfortable for adults (very thin and hard mattresses). Overall had an amazing week staying in the cottage and would definitely recommend it to others.

We replace our mattresses every 4/5 years and try to get not too firm and not too spongy, but sadly, it is difficult to please everybody. The issues can be the same with pillows. "Lovely, warm house in a cold November."
Accurate description of the house. The blind in the twin room wouldn’t go up more than a quarter of the way but the owner is going to address this. We didn’t find the beds in the twin room very comfy (too firm for us), but no real complaints about the other beds. A cafetière in the house would be nice as we don’t drink instant coffee, and a garlic crusher in the drawer would be worth having. We didn’t sit out the back as it was November when we stayed, but be aware that the seating area is very much overlooked by all the other houses around. Would definitely stay again.

The property
Northolme has been designed with a home-from-home ambiance in mind, complete with all the necessary furnishings and a contemporary flair, creating a pleasant space for you and your group to return to each evening.
Upon entering the property, discover the sitting room, featuring two plush sofas where you can kick back after a day on the beach, along with a TV for catching up on your favourite programmes. Allow the designated chef some time in the kitchen, getting used to all the appliances which includes a convenient washing machine, perfect for when exploration gets a little muddy.
Prepare the dining table with crockery and cutlery before popping open a bottle of wine to enjoy over a home-cooked dish.

Filey is a traditional English seaside resort with a friendly atmosphere, offering a restful holiday, making an ideal place to stay for walkers and wildlife watchers at any time of the year. A real gem on the Yorkshire coast. A fishing town on the North East Coast, Filey has enjoyed a reputation of being a resort since Victorian times, set beside the magnificent Filey Bay, a long stretch of beautiful sand, with Filey Brigg and its shallow rockpools to the north. Filey Brigg is a low headland that protects Filey Bay and provides good bird watching and seawatching opportunities all year round. The 400 ft high Bempton Cliffs (RSPB Reserve) to the south of Filey Bay are home to over 250,000 seabirds in the summer. Gannets, kittiwakes, puffins, guillimots and razorbills all nest there. Gannets are regularly seen diving for fish in Filey Bay. The Brigg area is an ideal place to watch for common and rarer waders, seabirds and migrating warblers,finches and thrushes. As well as seabirds, seals and other marine life, such as porpoises dolphins and minke whales can be seen in the sea around the Brigg. The town itself seems almost caught in a time warp, retaining much of its character with individual shops, narrow paths and ginnels. There is a small coble landing, a slipway where local fishermen keep their boats, plus delightful beach chalets that can be hired through the summer months. The bay is edged with two promenades and there are various gardens, where brass bands play on a Sunday afternoon. This small town is family orientated, crazy golf and candy floss. Also in Filey there is the Filey Dams Nature Reserve, a wetland reserve where common and rare waders and wildfowl can be seen as well as autumn gatherings of swallows, sand martins and house martins. Also there is Parish Wood (just off Sycamore Avenue) an unexpected gem that offers a wealth of wildlife. Willow warbler, chiffchaff, blackcap and tree sparrows breed there and a wide variety of other species are regularly seen such as great spotted woodpeckers and sparrow hawks. Parish Wood also provides shelter and food for a wide range of migrant bird species such as goldcrests, pied and spotted flycatchers, warblers, finches, thrushes and woodcocks. A short drive brings you to the busier town of Scarborough where for family fun you can visit the Alpamare Waterpark, a waterpark unlike anything the UK has ever seen before, as well as plenty to explore and discover in this lovely area.
