  • "Lovely well equipped ground floor apartment in quiet part of The Bay near the meadows but only a short walk to amenities."

Clean and tastefully decorated. Was well equipped with thoughtful welcome pack. Would agree with previous reviewer only 1 toilet roll and a few coffee/milk pods/tea bags/sugar provided so if staying longer than a couple of days would need to take extra. There is a small shop on site now and a Spar at the nearby petrol station plus Tesco in Filey. Clear instructions for all appliances were readily available although no problems and all easy to use. Over the bath shower took some figuring out and difficult to switch on without getting soaked

Thank you for you lovely comments. With regards to the comments about 1 toilet roll, tea coffee etc, as this is a self catering property, we only supply a starter pack for your first night, but would encourage people to bring their own supplies. As you said, there is a shop on site & close-by if needed. We do hope you enjoyed your stay & thanks again for your feedback. Best wishes, Di Property Owner

  • "Rosie's Retreat as a whole is a beautiful property that we would be more than happy to stay in again."

The facilities are great and the furniture offers maximum comfort. There were however a few little niggles, such as only one toilet roll & kitchen roll provided for the whole stay, which is not enough (meaning we had to purchase are own, which we feel with the price of the rent paid shouldn't be necessary) and only one bin bag in a very small bin. There is no hairdryer (which is supplied according to the booking.com page for this property). It would also be good if both sponges and rubber gloves were supplied for the washing up as the water is extremely hot. In addition, the listing needs to be updated as the photos are clearly a little old and it mentions games, books and DVDs being available in the apartment; none of which we either could find or had access to.

Thank you for you lovely comments, its great to hear that you'd be happy to stay again. With regards to the comments about 1 toilet roll & bin bag, as this is a self catering property, we supply a starter pack for your first night, but would encourage people to bring their own supplies. There is a shop on site & a supermarket in Filey if needed. I acknowledge your comments about the size of the bin, I may look into getting a bigger bin. Apologies you couldn't find the hairdryer, it is in the top drawer under the TV in the bedroom. & with regards to the games & books etc, these were removed to comply with COVID restrictions & I didn't yet feel that it was right to put them back, apologies if this caused you any inconvenience. We do hope you enjoyed your stay & thanks again for your feedback. Best wishes, Di Property Owner

  • "We had a 4 night stay at Rosie's Retreat and found it most enjoyable."

It's an ideal base for two just outside Filey. It seems very modern and it was spotless on our arrival with a lovely little welcome basket. A nice comfortable bed. Good size bath with a rainfall shower over which also includes a handset. The tv includes Sky, with a good selection of channels. There is also a dvd player and a good strong WiFi signal. We had no problem with parking and on most occasions got parked right outside the apartment. All in all we had a most enjoyable stay. The only area where we could possibly deduct a point is that, due to it being a downstairs apartment, you can get some noise from above, obviously depending on who's up there. On one evening it sounded like it was a feng shui expert dragging the furniture around for a few hours. One point to note is that Sykes directions tell you to turn second left after passing reception when you arrive when in actual fact its second right. We would definitely stay here again.

Rosie's Retreat was perfect for us, it was spotless, really comfortable and well equipped and spacious. The welcome basket was a lovely touch and did make us feel really welcome. The apartment was in a wonderful peaceful area which is just what we needed. There's so many places to visit around about The Bay and within it too so the location is an ideal base. We have stayed in the bay on 3 other occasions and will definitely be returning to Rosie's Retreat again some time soon.

  • "We followed and read the information provided prior to the holiday and nowhere did it state "bring your own toilet rolls"."

We were provided with half a roll for our 7 day visit and did not expect to spend Bank Holiday Sunday shopping for toilet rolls! Unfortunately, the grassy area in front of this property was used as a doggy toilet by all from nearby properties, morning, noon and evening. This was very unpleasant when eating breakfast, dinner etc. as the windows faced directly onto this grassy area. The sofa cushions and soft furnishings also smelt of dog although they had tried hard to mask the odour by placing many air fresheners in each room. The fridge didn't work properly and dripped water from the freezer onto the stored items on shelves below.

Thank you for your feedback. We have addressed your concerns and are talking to neighboring properties to overcome this. The property is self catering and we do supply enough enough paper towel for your first night and the shop on site is open although seasonal but there are facilities close-by. Thank you for informing us of the leak to the fridge, we will have this looked at immediately. Kind regards Property Owner

We were informed by the owner two days before our holiday commenced. There is no meadow anymore its a building site for new beach houses.Rosies retreat is alongside the old meadow,we could not open windows or sit at the patio area because of the dust and noise coming from JCBs and trucks. Our car was covered in dust and had to be washed off a couple of times. I went to the reception desk to be informed that Sykes Holidays were well aware of the building works, and Aria Resorts had told you to inform customers about it. I think as a gesture you should offer us another discount on top of the £40 voucher we already have.I await your reply Jackie Glover

About the location

FILEY

Scarborough 7.5 miles; Bridlington 11 miles.

Filey is a traditional English seaside resort with a friendly atmosphere, offering a restful holiday, making an ideal place to stay for walkers and wildlife watchers at any time of the year. A real gem on the Yorkshire coast. A fishing town on the North East Coast, Filey has enjoyed a reputation of being a resort since Victorian times, set beside the magnificent Filey Bay, a long stretch of beautiful sand, with Filey Brigg and its shallow rockpools to the north. Filey Brigg is a low headland that protects Filey Bay and provides good bird watching and seawatching opportunities all year round. The 400 ft high Bempton Cliffs (RSPB Reserve) to the south of Filey Bay are home to over 250,000 seabirds in the summer. Gannets, kittiwakes, puffins, guillimots and razorbills all nest there. Gannets are regularly seen diving for fish in Filey Bay. The Brigg area is an ideal place to watch for common and rarer waders, seabirds and migrating warblers, finches and thrushes. As well as seabirds, seals and other marine life, such as porpoises dolphins and minke whales can be seen in the sea around the Brigg. The town itself seems almost caught in a time warp, retaining much of its character with individual shops, narrow paths and ginnels. There is a small coble landing, a slipway where local fishermen keep their boats, plus delightful beach chalets that can be hired through the summer months. The bay is edged with two promenades and there are various gardens, where brass bands play on a Sunday afternoon. This small town is family orientated, crazy golf and candy floss. Also in Filey there is the Filey Dams Nature Reserve, a wetland reserve where common and rare waders and wildfowl can be seen as well as autumn gatherings of swallows, sand martins and house martins. Also there is Parish Wood (just off Sycamore Avenue) an unexpected gem that offers a wealth of wildlife. Willow warbler, chiffchaff, blackcap and tree sparrows breed there and a wide variety of other species are regularly seen such as great spotted woodpeckers and sparrow hawks. Parish Wood also provides shelter and food for a wide range of migrant bird species such as goldcrests, pied and spotted flycatchers, warblers, finches, thrushes and woodcocks. A short drive brings you to the busier town of Scarborough where for family fun you can visit the Alpamare Waterpark, a waterpark unlike anything the UK has ever seen before, as well as plenty to explore and discover in this lovely area.
