  • "As we were 6 people and two cars, we needed 2 parking spaces - however, parking spaces in the complex are quite scarce and because of some rather careless parking of cars in the available areas we had no choice other than parking one of our cars partly on a grass verge - as a result we got a friendly reminder."

Maybe this has already been an issue, but it would be nice if some more spaces be made to relieve the issue during times like holiday months when occupation levels are high.

Robert, apologies for the inconvenience caused. With 480 properties on The Bay, parking can sometimes be less than straight forward but in our particular location its often possible to find temporary availability behind the pub/leisure centre. Comings and goings are very frequent so parking in the bays adjacent to the property is usually achievable within a few hours. I trust your experience did not spoil your holiday. Again apologies for the inconvenience. Property Owner

  • "The tv could do with a sorting out as it was subject to much pixelation on the BBC channels, with with the crucial word droping out all the time on the news."

We are sorry to hear of your disappointment with the TV reception. The TV is fine - the problem lies with the signal, which on rare occasions becomes inferior. A new replacement mast for the area is currently being constructed at Bilsdale. Again, apologies for any inconvenience suffered. Property Owner

The property

Set within The Bay, a purpose-built holiday village 3 miles from the Victorian seaside resort of The Bay - Filey, North Yorkshire, is The Tidal Shack, offering spacious and airy, open-plan living, presenting a seaside/nautical theme.

The Bay provides a comprehensive Leisure Centre, providing guests with access to an indoor heated swimming pool with separate kiddies pool, sauna, gym and tennis facilities, whilst additional chargeable activities include archery and pool-based water sports.

Sizeable open-plan grounds, inclusive of boules courts, a children’s play area and the extensive Meadow (complete with mown walking paths and fishing lakes) provide ample opportunities for exercise, whilst an onsite pub/eatery and separate café provide dining possibilities.

Filey itself provides numerous independent shops and cafes, together with pubs/restaurants.

An array of attractions can also be found, including the ornamental Crescent Gardens, the Cobble Landing, and the Country Park atop the Brigg, all worthy of a visit.

A short stroll through the village and down a tarmac path leads to the glorious Blue Flag beach of Filey Bay; tidal strength ensures this 5-mile beach is swept crystal clean twice per day.

Walking north the town of Filey can be comfortably reached, and southwards leads to Bempton Cliffs, populated with a multitude of seabird species.

As an alternative, a second coastal path leads from The Bay across cliff tops to Humanby Gap café, again with beach access.

Explore North Yorkshire with the central base of The Tidal Shack.

About the location

Filey 3 miles; Scarborough 10 miles; Bridlington 8 miles.

Located on one of the most naturally beautiful stretches of the Yorkshire Coast, the Bay Filey is fronted by six miles of golden, sandy beach and is an exclusive development of traditional styled holiday cottages, off the A165 Filey to Bridlington road. Filey is a popular choice and is reminiscent of childhood holidays – an elegant and tranquil seaside town boasting a beautiful, award-winning beach, charming shops and plenty of activities for all the family. Filey Beach, with miles of golden, sandy beach nearby – recently voted the UK’s Best Beach in 2018 – there’s always plenty of room for the little ones to let off some steam and for the adults to walk for miles uninterrupted. Or try your hand at water sports such as sailing or surfing or just settle down in a deck chair with a good book and enjoy the sunshine. The Coble Landing is lined with boats and kiosks selling coffee, tea, seaside snacks and even those ever-popular bacon sandwiches, The Coble Landing is a must to enjoy the views before a walk along the spacious promenade, dotted with coastal themed sculptures. Discover the Fily Brigg, where you can walk to the tip of this narrow rock peninsular during low tide and maybe see a seal, sunbathing on the rocks. The cliff top above The Brigg forms part of the Country Park, which is popular with picnickers, birdwatchers and hang-gliders and is the start of The Wolds Way. Filey Museum is a past winner of Discover Yorkshire Coast’s Small Attraction of the Year award, is housed in a building dating from 1696, and is crammed with fascinating memorabilia, including an extensive photographic archive. Dalby Forest is an excellent choice for cyclists, where they can enjoy a challenge at Dalby Forest, or perhaps follow some of the Tour De Yorkshire route and tackle the famous Cote De Harwood Dale or just pedal village to village along the idyllic country roads of the nearby Wolds and admire the views made famous by leading artist David Hockney. Bird lovers will love the nature reserve at Bempton Cliffs to see the 250,000 guillemots, gannets and puffins who flock there to raise their young between April and August. It is a haven for birds and animals, including an important colony of great-crested newts and has an interesting Visitor Centre. Scarborough is 20 minutes north of Filey where theatre goers can enjoy the world premieres of Alan Ayckbourn plays plus Scarborough Open Air Theatre attracts many world-class artists – recent concerts have included Britney Spears, The Beach Boys, Little Mix and Tom Jones!
