  • "The cottage needs a better cleaner, I had to get the hoover out on arrival due to all the cobwebs and spiders on the ceiling and behind the tv."

Freezer far too small for a family of 4. The washer was full of black mould so I had to clean it before I put the clothes in. Not enough big pans. Had to use folks to get the plugs out of the sink. Had to buy our own wood and fire lighters to have a fire which is disgusting when you pay all that money. Needs bins in the bathrooms We won’t be booking this cottage again

  • "Charming outrage, nice little welcome pack, Great WiFi and TV, very comfortable bed/pillows, lovely roll top bath and plenty of hot water, great kitchen/dinning area, very nice location."

Didn’t like the fact the garden was accessed via a courtyard shared by two other properties. More attention to detail and more time for cleaners to clean. Sofas need hoovered under cushions and surface cleaned/washed, windows need cleaned etc. Lamp in sitting room broken.

  • "The cottage is well placed for local attractions in a very pretty and quiet village."

The welcome pack and flowers is a nice touch. It is comfortable and clean enough but we get the feeling it is unloved by its owner. There are no waste bins in any room or bathroom, only one bin in the kitchen. The kitchen has been equipped by someone who has never cooked a meal in their life - only one saucepan lid, no serving spoons etc. On the Web site and with a check with Sykes the parking off road is for Northcott but it is obviously not clear to the other cottages that this is the case. Most concerning is, there is no local emergency number. If there is a problem you have to phone Sykes and they could be difficult to get hold of. As the plumbing is decidedly dodgy with wobbly taps and toilet seats this could be a problem

  • "Cottage looks delightful but soon became apparent that there were many cobwebs and spiders due to careless cleaning."

Toilet seat and taps loose, no bins in bathrooms or bedrooms, not enough cereal bowls or tall glasses, no dvd player. Needs some TLC and attention, we raised our concerns about cleanliness on arrival but were not resolved as owner did not respond to Sykes. We have stayed at many cottages over the last 15 years and never had a need to complain.

  • "Hutton Buscel is a gorgeous pretty village and very well located."

Cottage was very clean and comfortable (but we did feel that the double mattress was cheap for the overall quality of the cottage). Little garden is beautiful, sunny all day and with wonderful views over Vale of Pickering. We found it entirely secure for our dog once we had agreed with the 2 other holiday lets that we keep the gates closed. It is a shame, and unnecessary, that cars are allowed to park in the courtyard, but luckily no one did during our stay. A negative is a woeful lack of info in the properties folder - emergencies, pubs, delis, farmshops, tea rooms, walks, maps, walking guides - , the owner's local knowledge would have been greatly appreciated. I put lots of info in Visitors book to give some ideas to future guests, and collected leaflets.

  • "Cobwebs everywhere, dust on skirting boards and bathroom radiator/towel rail."

Round cooker hob knobs dirty/greasy and worktop had to be cleaned before use. Kitchen floor sticky and bathroom floor stained. Toilet seats not secure, we had to be very careful when using them and taps also not secure and kitchen one dripped constantly. There are no bins upstairs or even in bathrooms only one in kitchen. An opened bottle of wine with about a quarter of wine in it was part of the welcome pack. House was advertised with a washing machine but it actually didn't work and we were not informed before arrival. Could have done with heating being on more than the twice per day but welcome pack states not to tamper with it. The beds were clean and it was a good location.

Perfectly placed for great access to stunning walks and also to the coast. The house is lovely and really well appointed. We had a great stay and enjoyed our time there and the only issue we had was sorted quickly by Sykes customer care team within 24 hours. Remember this is a old cottage so the doors are not high and if your over 6 ft you will need to mind your head. Lovely place and we want to go back for sure. Thanks

It was well appointed with everything I needed. The little garden was a lovely space to sit and watch the birds or to eat. The bed was very comfortable. The village was a gentle, quiet place to be. I will definitely think about booking the same place again.

  • "Overall we had a great time at Northcot."

Lovely cottage, furnished really well with all that you need for a comfortable stay in the quiet village of Hutton Buschel, great views and lovely sunrises from the garden, and with the gates closed a very secure and safe area for the dog too. We had one problem which was on the last morning when the heating and hot water failed to work, which was a bit of an inconvenience, I did leave a note on the kitchen table. Apart from that, great place, great location and we will be returning at some point in the future.

  • "This is a wonderful country cottage, everything you need for a week or longer stay."

Garden ok for one small dog, parking will become a squeeze when the new cottage will open up. The main Northcot cottage is quiet private, good size for a family of 5 and a dog. The location of the cottage is excellent eith many places to visit in all directions so very central. Pub quiet far to walk too but a little drive away and is good for drinks and food with social distancing in place. Very picturesque village with country walks with the dog(s).

  • "My wife, who has a chronic illness and I booked to stay at this property for one week from 18th September 2020 and paid £588."

    00. We were delighted with the cottage and all was going really well right up until the builders arrived lunchtime 22.9.20 to start work on the attached property which looks like a small barn. The attached property is actually connected to the cottage by a short glass covered corridor and is separated only by an interior door. I watched as the builders unloaded power tools and timber to start construction on the attached barn. I went outside and asked them what they were doing and they replied that they had come to work on the inside of the barn. I asked why, when we had paid to stay at Northcot cottage, was it acceptable for them to turn our holiday cottage into a building site? A short discussion ensued and after I had explained that it was not at all acceptable they packed up their equipment and left. If we had been out visiting when they arrived they would have started building works in our absence. How can the owner of this holiday-let think that this is the right way to treat customers? Would they like it if they turned up at a premise on holiday and found that the owners were allowing building works to proceed during their holiday? If the owners knew that building works were to take place then why didn't they let us know at the time of booking so that we would have the choice of booking an alternative property? (and we would have booked an alternative). Every time we went out after that incident we expected to see the builders had returned to work in our absence, so we decided to cut short our holiday and return home the following day. I think that this incident strikes at the very heart of a contract for a holiday-let between an owner and a customer. To that end I think it only fair and reasonable that we receive a refund to reflect the inconvenience, the cost and upset of leaving the property 23.9.20. I look forward to your reply. Mr M Holmes

It is also on a regular bus route so you can leave the car & let the bus take the strain. Local amenities are close within a mile. The cottage itself has a good homely feel to it & we felt relaxed immediately, It is well proportioned throughout, bedrooms, living rooms & bathrooms. The outside space was great for star gazing with a very dark sky little light pollution. A good indicator on the cottages atmosphere was the dog was chilled throughout our stay. They usually sence a bad atmosphere.. The information left by the owners gave us a good feel for the cottages prior use as a smithy & also the history of the village. If you want to have a chilled relaxing time, Northcot would be the ideal place for you.

  • "The cottage was very well appointed and extremely comfortable, set in a beautiful village and very close to the coast and I would fully recommend it."

the only thing I would point out is that we chose this cottage because it was advertised as dog friendly , private, with a walled back garden , but on arrival we discovered that it was shared access with other visitors in an adjacent barn and instructions given in the welcome pack said to leave the gates to the garden open so access was available by both sets of renters. whilst we came to a happy agreement with the other couple, if they had not been dog lovers the fact that our dog was sharing their space may be a problem and i think should be clearer in the description. other than this though, the cottage was really lovely and every effort clearly had been made to make the visitors very comfortable.
