The Barn itself was comfortable and the facilities inside were excellent. The decor was very traditional and provided a very cosy atmosphere. The owners were welcoming and very helpful, though we didn't really have any problems. The village where the barn is located is a lovely quiet place to spend your holiday. We will definitely return.

  • "Our stay here was perfect and exactly what we wanted!"

The barn is a beautifully rustic and cosy place to stay - the brick interior was the big selling point for us, and the mezzanine is a lovely unique element too. It's extremely well catered for facilities, especially in the kitchen. There is a TV hidden behind the wooden door in the corner of the living room, which is nice and discreet. Some reviewers have mentioned the bed being very firm - we can confirm that it is still a firm mattress however it didn't affect us at all, in fact we slept perfectly, so I suppose it's just a matter of preference. I will mention as a 6'1 person for other taller people that you will have to spend a lot of time ducking under the various beams - I banged my head several times - but that's obviously not a criticism for the place. The hosts are very friendly and helpful, offering us advice on where to go for walks, food etc. Would love to stay again, thanks so much!

Nothing was too much trouble. Well set up for guests, including parking. The barn is really sympathetically renovated to a high standard and is perfect for feeling at home if you have a four-legged friend with you. The position is great with lots of places to visit within easy reach.

  • "A lovely cottage, only issue regarding comfort was the extremely hard bed."

Ideal for walks in the countryside. If like us you stayed in during the evenings, the lack of an oven was a challenge as frying everything would set the smoke detector off.

  • "My partner and I had a lovely weeks stay in the Barn and although unfortunately one day we had no water for a while due to a burst main pipe in the village and another day after a storm we had no electricity for a few hours due to a fallen tree bringing down a cable, the owners Ed and Emily looked after us well and kept us updated as to what was going on re the works, and could not apologise enough even though it was beyond their control."

As owners you could not fault them. They are very lovely people. The Barn was clean and well stocked with everything we needed. Amazing shower. The only criticism we could point out was the bed was a bit hard for our liking but that is down to personal choice. We would recommend it to anyone wishing to book and it is very good being dog friendly. Our two dogs soon settled in there. The woods at the end of the village is lovely for walking the dogs.

  • "My partner and I booked a weeks break at The Barn to celebrate our Anniversary along with our two Sausage pups."

The hosts (Ed & Emily) were very warm and friendly and towards the end of the week found ourselves having a good natter and a catch up in the garden. Hugo (their dog) is lovely and was best friends with our two Sausage dogs along with the other guests dogs too. The Barn is cosy and a lovely place for a couple to escape reality with their pups. The shower is impressive and the log burner is a real treat. The hosts are very welcoming and make every effort to ensure you are comfortable, but are not too intrusive and respect if you wish to be left to your own devices too. It was a nice touch to receive a text a couple of days before our arrival from the hosts to welcome us and to ask if we were celebrating any special occasions. They kindly gave us a bottle of Prosecco as a gift for our anniversary. We didn't realise at first that the garden area would be shared with the hosts and other guests. However this did work out well in the end as we got to know the other guests from the Potting Shed. The other guests dogs, Hugo and our pups all got along so well which was nice which allowed us to relax and not have to worry about dog arguments. The dogs would wait for each other in the morning in the garden for a play time which was fun to watch. We improvised with closing the gate to the driveway to prevent any escapes. We feel it would be beneficial to have a cooker oven as currently The Barn only has a 4 piece electric hob, however we did make do with what we had and it was not a big issue. Also another suggestion is to have a squeegee for the shower room to clear up the water in the walk in shower. My partner found the bed too hard however I found it comfy, this is down to personal preference. We would recommend The Barn to friends and family for a relaxed break in the countryside in a village setting. We will return again for sure!

Thanks so much David, we all loved having you stay. Best wishes Ed, Emily and Hugo Property Owner

  • "An attractive, quirky and very comfortable cottage, which we enjoyed immensely."

I should perhaps mention for future users that there is no oven in the kitchen - just a hob and a microwave. It's totally our own fault for not reading the description properly, but we'd gone prepared with food that wouldn't cook in a microwave. The issue was soon solved once we'd been to the shops the next day, and it certainly didn't spoil our enjoyment of the cottage. Hutton Buscel is a very pleasant village, with plently of good dog walks straight from the front door. Whilst perhaps not a holiday destination in its own right and having no shop or pub, it is very conveniently placed for coast, forests and moors (and indeed plenty of other attractions) and we were certainly not short of things to do. Would definitely recommend!

  • "The owners are lovely!"

We felt so welcome when we arrived. Cottage house is located in a beautiful little cottage with lots of places to walk with your dog. The Barn is very cosy and it is actually very spacious. On our arrival we were welcomed with bottle of chilled Prosecco in the fridge which is very nice. There were also essential things like: tea, milk, coffee, salt and pepper in the kitchen. You dont need to worry about pans or plates etc as everything is provided there. In terms of bedroom and bathroom - the shower is lovely, towels provided, bedding is a really good quality and hangers for clothes are also there (maybe could be a few more). The only things what I can think of to improve it is the actual mattress - uncomfortable and makes lots of noise, the second thing is the wifi - connection is really bad, we used our internet on the phones so it was ok but when we tried to use Wifi then nothing wanted to load up. Apart from that I can’t think of any other things because it was lovely week for me, my partner and our little chihuahua. It was such a lovely atmopshere there that my partner decided to propose to me in that cottage so it is magical! We are already thinking about booking it again so definitely I would recommend it to everyone! Thank you Ed, Emily and Hugo xx

  • "Lovely stay at this gorgeous barn!"

It was so spacious for the two of us and our little dog. The log burner was amazing to have after a rainy day outside exploring. It was lovely to get nice and cosy on an evening! Lots of places to visit and explore, such a beautiful area. Welcome pack of prosecco, tea and biscuits on arrival. Very thoughtful. Only couple of things we would say.. there was no sugar. Obviously not a problem if you don't have sugar in your tea which I do! And there were no cloths or anything to wash dishes with so we did have to buy our own. They were only minor things, it didn't take anything away from the holiday! Also the bed really isn't that comfortable and makes noise at the slightest of movement. But other than that everything was perfect! The walk in waterfall shower was lovely! Lots of spiders but don't let put you off! Thank you to Ed and Emily for a lovely week. And Hugo of course!

Thanks so much for your feedback John. Delighted to hear that you enjoyed the shower and log burner. So sorry about the cloths- our mistake. We can also improve on our spider-removing skills! Best wishes Ed, Emily and Hugo Property Owner

Emily, Ed and Hugo were amazing hosts and made us feel so welcome. The barn itself was fantastic and had everything we needed, a real little home from home. It was exceptionaly clean, comfortable and beautiful. It was a great location for exploring the North York Moors, especially as we love walking. Over the week we visited Whitby, Dalby Forest, Bempton Cliffs, Thornton Dale, Flamborough and Goathland. These are just a few of the fantastic places in easy reach by car from the barn. Reighton Gap beach is also well worth a visit. We wouldn't hesitate to recomend the Barn for a Yorkshire get away, especially with such fantastic hosts.

The cottage was warm and cosy and very quiet It was in a beautiful village We used the wood burning stove most nights ( there is a starter pack of wood but you must buy further supplies), but there were also radiators which could be set to the temperature you wanted The kitchenette had everything needed but only enough for two. There is no oven which may put people off but we knew this from the cottage information so it wasn’t an issue The shower was fantastic though I am not keen on wet rooms Wi-Fi was very good and I enjoyed sitting in the “ reading area” up the stairs.

  • "The barn was warm and cosy with a comfortable bed and stylish wet room, situated in a picturesque village."

Unfortunately, as previous reviews have noted, there are still problems with the property, not least its wifi that would stop working every evening. Regarding facilities, the bedroom would benefit from some drawers as, apart from some hanging space, we had to live out of our bags for the week. The seats around the dining table are not those pictured and are uncomfortably low/high for the table (also not the one pictured). Finally, the bed is not on the mezzanine - while the listing doesn't directly claim it is, we were slightly mislead by the images of the property and the "1 x mezzanine double" description on Sykes.
