  • "The Old Schoolhouse is a delightful home from home in a pretty village in Yorkshire."

Well appointed and very comfortable it has everything needed for the perfect holiday. The deli downstairs is a delight as are the proprietors who could not be more helpful and friendly. With a wonderful old and very friendly pub a stone's throw away, the folk museum not much further and lovely walks round the area for us it was near perfect. We would definitely recommend the Old Schoolhouse to anyone who enjoys peace and quiet, walking, nature and waking to the smell of freshly baked pastries.

Would highly recommend booking if you are looking for a quiet break. Hutton-le-Hole is a beautiful small village and well worth a visit, I felt like time stood still and we had the most relaxing and peaceful break with a lovely place to return to at the end of each day. It’s about a 50min drive to the coastal areas; we visited Whitby, Robin hood’s bay and Filey which are all very lovely places to explore. The house has everything you need and more, the cake and Prosecco waiting for us on arrival was a lovey touch too.

Lovely apartment, sympathetically restored and decorated in beautiful calming colours. Access to the property was very organised thanks to Debbie. The village is small but has all you need. The Crown pub across the road serves amazing food and cask ales etc and worth visiting. The barn cafe was a lovely place for a lunchtime treat and Caroline, the owner was fab. It was lovely watching the sheep roaming and grazing all around the village and a gentle stroll around the river through the village blew the cobwebs off. We will return for longer next time

  • "Beautiful holiday accommodation in a perfect village."

Parking isn't easy: on a corner with three-way traffic, and often a large van parked adjacent so you are backing out blind. The public carpark for extra vehicles is not 24-hours (overnight not allowed). The TV is small and difficult to see from dining table. Courtyard was unattractive, including rubbish blown down there, and we didn't use. Washing machine shared on one occasion (possibly with cleaner – it was very full of sheets etc). You need to telephone the owners for the key instructions, rather than a normal email from the agency, and in our case that was difficult. So some negatives, but overall the lovely flat, lovely building, lovely village, meant a very good recommendation.

  • "The little outside court yard at the property could be made more inviting."

We didn't use this area as it's surrounded by walls that can't be seen over if you're seated which is a shame when there's such a stunning view. The accommodation is excellent in every other way however and we have thoroughly enjoyed our week there.

Lovely and quiet, though the cafe was not open in March so don’t know what it would be like in summer. The flat was a little ‘tired’, but comfortable, spacious and warm. The heating controls were accessible so it was easy to press the boost button if it got a little chilly. We never found the village store but had a lovely meal at the pub across the road.

The most beautiful little village I have ever seen! Plenty to do all around. The pub over the road does fantastic food, we ate there 3 times it was that good! The old school house was so perfect for us. We love history, and there are some beautiful features, the windows are stunning. It was very clean, and the beds were extremely comfortable! My 17 month old daughter loved sitting on the little stools in the window watching the sheep. The owner was lovely, very helpful. See you next year!

  • "The cottage occupies a prime place in a very lovely village."

The view from the lounge looks down the length of the village and has a different aspect from the other settee looking down the stream and across to the woods. The stairs up to the apartment would not suit everyone especially carrying cases up.For an old building the rooms are surprisingly light and heating is efficient. The parking cone needs to be left out otherwise if you return before the shop/cafe closes you may find nowhere to park in the busy season.

About the location

Kirkbymoorside 3.5 miles; Pickering 8 miles.

Situated in the heart of the North York Moors National Park and handily placed for touring both Moors and Coast, the idyllic little village of Hutton-le-Hole is widely accepted as the prettiest in the area. Charming stone built cottages cluster around undulating village greens, with a stream (Hutton Beck) passing through. It's the perfect spot to sit and watch the world go by - but don't be surprised to find sheep grazing next to you! The village is home to the Ryedale Folk Museum, a 'hands on' museum of local life and tradition, which includes a reconstructed Elizabethan Manor House, farm buildings and craft shops. The village also has a complex of craft shops, workshops, tea rooms and gift shops. Nearby the attractive old market town of Kirkbymoorside lies on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, in between the towns of Helmsley and Pickering. It's a charming place with a slightly 'old fashioned feel' and visitors will find plenty to keep them occupied in the many shops, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants. There is even an 18 hole course for golf enthusiasts and Pickering is the base of the North York Moors Steam Railway - a 'must do' day out for all visitors to the area. Both the City of York and the Yorkshire Coast are within easy driving distance.
