The Lodge satisfied every thing we desired and the views are tremendous. We had no trouble finding it as the directions were spot on. We were very fortunate with the weather, other than the first day, which poured down the rest of the week was warm and sunny - no more rain. We met David on our arrival and a couple of times during the week and in all cases he was most helpful. We would strongly recommend this holiday let for a most peaceful break. The owner was very thoughtful, equipping the property with everything you could need and making sure the information was comprehensive, the property was immaculately clean. It is a very easy walk to the local pub and restaurant, but in a very quiet village. Neighbours and locals were very friendly and chatty, our little grandson loved meeting the horses and donkeys in the next door field. Excellent dog walks nearby.

  • "Lovely place to stay."

Views amazing. The owner was extremely helpful and even went out of his way to build a wheelchair ramp whilst we were there so we could get my mums wheelchair in the house. Also the welcome pack provided gave a lot of good ideas too. Only thing I would say is that the bed in the master bedroom is very high and we did struggle to get in it and we are average height. Loved that there was some books and jigsaws provided. The internet was a bit hit and miss but I assume that cannot be helped due to the location of the property. Would highly recommend this place to stay. Was a really beautiful home and gave us a chance for some peace and quiet and quantity family time.

Hello Natalie, thanks for the feedback. The master bed was built to be back friendly as both myself and my wife have had back issues. The idea is that you can get into it without having to lower yourself or bend, the same when getting out of it. I'm sorry you struggled with it, my wife is only 5ft 5 and had no problems and none of our other guests have had any issues with it. Unfortunately during your stay there were broadband fibre upgrade works going on in the village which did have an impact on the broadband service at times but means it's now significantly faster. • "An excellent stay in a wonderful cottage, in an excellent situation."

The conservatory was wonderful, and we spent lots of times in there, especially when the sun was shining. The garden area is quite extensive, and was excellent for the 90 year olds we had with us. There were lots of places to visit in the area, and the owner had left lots of information about routes we could do. The Dudley Arms was exceptional, for both meals and drinks, with the staff being wonderful. Would recommend a trip to Whitby on the train from Battersby junction, which is around 15 minute walk from the lodge. If you do go to the station, leave a little time to look at the history of the railway in a hut in the park.

  • "We had a very good week at The Lodge."

The property is well equipped, comfortable, clean and very nicely located. Two small suggestions would be to cut down the hedges somewhat so that the outstanding landscape can be better appreciated and to provide more comfortable and flexible outdoor seating options so that sunny days and evenings can be better enjoyed. Otherwise, all was good!

Thanks for the feedback David, it's great to hear you enjoyed your stay. Unfortunately two chairs and a bench had needed replacing which was only noticed on the changeover day. We have now equipped the lodge with a new outdoor dining set, some garden loungers and a coffee table so there are plenty of options to enjoy the garden if you wanted to stay with us again. Regarding the hedge, it is actually a party hedge and is maintained at 6ft to afford both privacy and a windbreak as the field behind slopes up from the hedge. If it were lower then the garden would lose it's privacy. As you can still see the hills, the only views which would be gained would be across the neighbours field. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you want to stay again. Property Owner

The Lodge is spacious, has a beautiful day room, spacious bedrooms, plenty of bathrooms and a huge functional kitchen. There is ample parking space for all the cars. • "We stayed at The Lodge for a family holiday with our adult children, 6 of us for the first few days, then (unfortunately for them!"

) a couple had to return to work. There is lots of room and plenty of bathrooms. The beds felt quite soft when we tried them on arrival and I was a bit anxious that I wouldn't sleep, as ours at home are much firmer. That wasn't the case, we all slept very well. The garden room is fabulous. We could have spent the entire time there. The house is in such a lovely setting and the garden is huge. David was a great host, very helpful and informative. He answered questions before we arrived very quickly and was there to meet us at check in. We cooked several times; the kitchen was equiped with everything you need to cook a big meal. If you don't want to cook The Dudley Arms is great for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We visited it for each over the week we were there; as it's only a 5min walk away it seemed rude not too! The Lodge is well situated for exploring North Yorkshire and the East Coast. All in all it was a lovely place to stay, we would definitely stay here again.

It is a spacious, comfortable property in a private, secluded location looking over beautiful views and friendly ponies! With three bathrooms, three TVs and sofas in two of the bedrooms, there were plenty of options to be together and to also be apart. Our favourite room was probably the stylish, airy dining room where we met for family meals and enjoyed chatting around the table. David was a welcoming and helpful host. His information pack was the most comprehensive I have ever seen. He was willing to answer any questions and provide suggestions. There are numerous walks of varying degrees of difficulty starting at the house. The local station at Battersby is a good alternative to driving, particularly for a day trip to Whitby.
