Exceptionally clean, every utensil in the kitchen you needed to cook a proper meal. Beds were comfortable, sofas were great to curl up on after a day of walking. The little extras, althou we didn’t need them as we took everything, are a great idea,Food and water bowl, toys, blankets and poo bags. So thoughtful of the owner to include these for our dog. Other extras washing up liquid, sponges, tea towels, enough cutlery for 6 if needed. And the little homely touches of pictures, ornaments, and extra throws were lovely. The garden area was great for buddy our German shepherd and he soon made it home from home. Yes the ceilings in the bedrooms are low but that adds to the character. The stairs are steep but there’s only 9 of them and within a day you are used to them. And both these things are noted in the cottage description. We loved everything about Lena cottage, the owner has excelled herself in making this a great home from home

A huge thank you for this wonderful review, it makes the job worth while when Lena Cottage receives praise such as this. • "We loved our week at Lena Cottage."

The listing warns that 'the property has low doorways and steep stairs'. Yes it does (I have the bruises to prove the first one!), but all things considered they were not even the slightest inconvenience. The off-street parking and rear porch/utility room were a boon - we could dump stuff there from straight from the car to avoid losing all the heat from the cottage itself. The 'larder fridge' was a bit of a disappointment. A fridge with at least a freezer compartment would have been useful, but we coped. The instructions on the wall next to the central heating controller were vague - they were the controller manufacturer's own and their own website was no better - but we worked it out in the end. Contradicting previous reviews, we found the sofas quite comfortable, and the beds likewise. Would we stay at Lena Cottage again? Absolutely, no hesitation at all. We have recommended it to friends and family. I just hope they don't choose a week when we want to stay again ourselves!

Thank you for your feedback, its always good to hear that guests have enjoyed their stay at Lena Cottage, even though you gained a bruise or two! Thank you for your comment regarding a freezer , I will look into fitting a fridge with a freezer compartment this year if possible. With regards to the heating , i think that it must have been inadvertently switched to 'auto mode'. It is normally left on 'manual mode' whereby you just turn the dial to reach the desired temperature then the heating keeps the cottage at the temperature chosen. I agree that if it had been on 'auto mode' then the settings/ temperatures can be tricky to set. I will have to ensure that it is left on manual mode for future guests. Its also good to hear that you found the furnishings comfortable and it would be lovely to welcome you and your friends back again one day. Property Owner

  • "It was a lovely cottage in a lovely village."

Very traditional and great parking/garden area which was enclosed for dogs. Very dog friendly. It was all very clean. There was no freezer though which we knew before but it would be very useful as it's hard to keep everything in a fridge. There is room to put one in the entrance where the washer/dryer is. More knife and forks are needed as sometimes need more when cooking. There were only 4 of each. The sofas were not very comfortable at all but maybe that could be a personal preference. Overall though, a nice property and just needs a few adaptations to make it perfect.

Thank you for your feedback, we were saddened to read that you found the sofas uncomfortable, as they are leather sofas which we have intentionally placed in the cottage for ease of cleaning / disinfecting since the pandemic. We agree that most probably cloth sofas will be more 'squishy' to sit on but they also hold the germs in the material, so we are trying to do the best thing for all our guests. We will look into maybe placing a freezer where you suggested although this will then take up the dog friendly area, which would have to be moved else where. We can also quite easily place more cutlery in the kitchen. Thank you again for your feedback, we are pleased that you found the cottage and the village welcoming. Property Owner

Half way through the stay the roof leaked soaking one of the beds which was in use. This occurred again 2 nights later. Unable to use this bedroom.

Thank you for your feedback. There were already arrangements in place to maintain the bathroom and fit new blinds after the duration of your stay. With regards to the roof, it was an unfortunate event that the leak occurred, [ due to the relentless rain we experienced] as there is a date in place to re new the whole roof soon. As there is an alternative bedroom, which you used, you led me to believe that it was not an issue for you, and you were still enjoying your holiday. Please accept my sincere apologies if this was not the case. Property Owner

  • "Small & quirky, adequate for a short stay."

Would benefit from updating inside, particularly the living space and the bathroom which is downstairs. No freezer or baking tray. The rear porch was useful as was the off road parking. Stairs quite dangerous and low doorways also one to be aware of when staying here. Otherwise a great location as a base, 10 mins to Driffield, 20 mins to Bridlington and a little further to fantastic Flamborough. Local pub good for beer but less so for food & terrible service sadly.

Thank you for your comments. Lena Cottage is a 200-year old property with lots of character, so we feel that it is important to retain many of its original features and have furnished it in a way that reflects this. A freezer is not advertised and a baking tray is not a necessity, however we do take this point on board. Due to the age of the property, the stairs are steep and the doorways are low, and this is mentioned in the property description. Guests are also advised in the welcome book to use caution. Thank you again for your feedback, and we are glad to hear the property was a good base for you. Property Owner

I booked two long stays at Lena Cottage and enjoyed every minute of them. It has the feel of a genuine 'lived in', homely cottage, almost like a trip back in time. Yes, the steps were steep and the treads a little shallow but that was all part of the charm and just required a bit of extra care. The cottage had all the facilities needed for a 'get away from it all' holiday break and the village of Kilham, with its renowned pub and hill top church, was charming without being in any way contrived. The pub is a rare, surviving example of a classic English village pub, comprising several small rooms with open fires, friendly locals, great beer and delicious food. There is a small garage and shop just round the corner from the cottage, which I found very handy for both petrol and basic supplies. Being only 9 miles from Bridlington, Lena Cottage makes an excellent base for exploring both the coast and the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Wolds. Jo, the owner, went out of her way to make us feel welcome and even provided Christmas trimmings to add the appropriate seasonal touch. I look forward to staying here again.

  • "Lovely cottage."

You do have to watch out for low beams going into bedrooms. Great for the dog having yard. Shop has closed down but you can get milk and bread from garage which is just along the street. Both pubs are really nice selling good food. The beach is only 20 minutes away, lovely and clean. Cottage very clean and cosy. We had a lovely weekend away thank you

  • "Our stay at Lena Cottage was absolutely amazing!"

A beautiful quirky little cottage with bags of character! The place was spotless and is very apparent that it is a very loved place by it's owner! Jo is lovely and very helpful. The pub across the road (The Bay Horse) does THE most fantastic homemade food! (The steak is HIGHLY recommended!). The cottage had lots of added extras which was so lovely, such as; a range of DVDs, games and books, biscuits and teabags/coffee etc. Jo has also put together a very informative folder of local attractions and amenities. A beautiful stay and will be visiting again for sure!

  • "The cottage was clean and functional."

As detailed in the description, the stairs are very steep and the twin bedroom door is really low but we had to use this room as the bed in the double room is not full size and only just fits in the room. Our son was very happy to use that room. The garden is a lovely size but not private and not secure enough to leave dogs.
