Crumbles Cottage - what a lovely and cosy stay! We booked this cottage for over Christmas, and what a present it was for my family and our small dog! It is listed as 4 ticks, I would happily give it 5 ticks and hope to return again. The Owner Fiona was great to speak to prior to starting our holiday and making recommendations including parking (just across the street unless you are lucky to get a space just outside) and nearby attractions. The cottage was beautifully lit when we arrived, the front door light on, reef on the door, and inside a warm cosy welcome to our cottage with Christmas tree and decorations put up. The rooms were incredibly clean, comfortable, and the owner had considered everything about our stay. We were welcomed with a gift bag of Prosecco, Coffee and Christmas treats left on the table for us, and in the kitchen 4 pints of milk in the fridge and a tray with tea and coffee pot and mini biscuits. The rooms were beautifully prepared for us, and you can see renovated to an incredibly high standard. The photos do not do this property justice! The cottage is quite small and pokey in ways, but this suited us fine as it was very cosy with plenty of places to sit (would rather sit than stand!). The living room and landing had beautiful beams on the ceiling, a lovely fireplace which was gorgeous and warm when lit, and there was plenty of choice for lighting with various lamps about the place. The kitchen was lovely with a small window and dining table, the bathroom was always the warmest and had beautiful tiling and the option of a bath or shower with two head settings. There was a washing machine in the bathroom cupboard which was very handy and easy to use, however you have to bring your own wash powder/tablets, we bought some cheap from the Co-op down the main street of town. The bedrooms were warmly furnished and the beds were very comfy. The carpet in the whole cottage was very soft and new so lovely to walk on. The Owner left a guide on getting to know the cottage and the surrounding areas, recommending good restaurants and nearby amenities. Kirkbymoorside is a lovely small market town with only a few shops, pubs and fish & chip shops. Due to the location, car and wellies I would say are necessary. The Owner also left a visitor recommendations book so we can share our own ideas - we loved The George and Dragon for a good pub meal that also welcomed our doggy, and York and Scarborough were less than an hours drive away. She also left a Maintenance book which I haven't seen before in a property - this was handy for small things we could leave feedback about. Some extra notes about the property. 1. The cottage can get cold, so take warm jumpers, we were recommended to not go near the thermostat but had to put it up one day as it was so cold and less than -1 outside! 2. As the cottage sits on a main road into town, some traffic noise and passers by can be heard, but this was minimal and expected with the type of property. 3. The recycling/disposable waste you have to read up on and put out yourself through the back gate and down the alley to the street. 4. Bring food with you or plan a trip to the nearest Lidl about 8miles away - there are only 2-3 small shops in Kirkbymoorside and are a little bit more expensive. 6. I would say the Wifi had good strength in the living room. One of the biggest advantages was that it was dog friendly with an enclosed garden. The Owner had even left a towel to try our dog's feet, blankets for our dog if they wanted to sit on the sofa with us and even some extra poo bags in one of the kitchen drawers. We were so impressed and this all made us feel at home. We mostly walked our small dog around the streets but there are some lush places a short drive away and we are advised a large field on the other side of the town we could have used also. I have to say we were all incredibly impressed with the cottage and cant wait to return. The Cottage made our Christmas and we would highly recommend.
